Re: Selecting text and files

Are you looking for hotkeys in general for any application? However, other hotkeys for a word or text document are control+a to select all the text or control+s to save your document

or control+o to open a document or application. If you wish to delete information in a document control+d will activate this action. If this is what you are looking for let me know and I'll be glad your more hotkeys for other actions.

Hi Mike,

First thanks for the list of text selecting key strokes. You wouldn't know
of any more of these windows key combinations such as.
Windows key+C append to clip board.
Windows key+K jump to book mark in a Word document.

Thanks.

HI Dondi,

Here is a list of the mostly used text selection keystrokes.

Selecting / Highlighing text

Selecting a letter/character; Shift +left arrow selects prior character.
Shift + right arrow selects next character.

Selecting prior word; Insert/Jaws key, shift + left arrow or control,
shift, + left arrow.

Selecting next word; Insert/Jaws key, shift, + right arrow or control,
shift, + right arrow.

Selecting text from cursor to beginning of line; Shift + Home/7 key on
number pad.

Selecting text from cursor to end of line; Shift +End/1 on the number pad.

Selecting text from cursor to the end of a document; Control, shift, +
end/1 key on the number pad.

Selecting text from cursor to the beginning of a document; Control, shift,
+ home/7 key on the number pad.

Selecting more than 1 line of text; Hold the Shift key down while arrowing
up or down until you have selected/highlighted the lines you want.

Selecting all text; Control + A. This keystroke will select all the text
in a document no matter the size or length of the document.

to select a page at a time: shift page up or down

If any of these are incorrect, someone please correct me or, if there are
more that can be added, someone please do so. Take care.
Mike

Is there some where I can get the entire list of Windows key shortcuts for

In fact, the Windows key is employed with a number of fantastic JAWS
keystrokes. One which I have come to use on an hourly basis is control
plus
windows plus k to mark a spot in a word document.
One may later jump back to that spot instantly with just windows plus k;
however, even more cool is the ability, in Word, to mark text from your
cursor to the marked spot, and it doesn't matter whether, in the document,
your cursor is ahead of the marked spot or behind it or whether it is 4
words or 40 pages away. You mark text back to the marked spot with JAWS
key
plus space bar and then m.
Then, you can use control c to copy or control x to cut or windows c to
append.
Try it! You'll like it!

Yes, theWindows key is the key which, when pressed by itself, launches the
start menu. There are a good number of useful shortcut keys involving it.
Win+c is the only one I know of that is a JAWS keystroke.

I feel really stupid here. When you refer to the "windows key", is that
the
start menu key as well? I'm assuming it's not the insert key on the
number
pad. Duh!

Re: Wikipedia to go dark on January 18

British Broadcasting Corporation. The actual point why Wikipedia is doing this is, I think, beyond the scope of this list, as it is related to current legislations pending in United States Congress regarding Internet privacy and others.
Cheers,

Subject: RE: Selecting text and files

In fact, the Windows key is employed with a number of fantastic JAWS
keystrokes. One which I have come to use on an hourly basis is control plus
windows plus k to mark a spot in a word document.
One may later jump back to that spot instantly with just windows plus k;
however, even more cool is the ability, in Word, to mark text from your
cursor to the marked spot, and it doesn't matter whether, in the document,
your cursor is ahead of the marked spot or behind it or whether it is 4
words or 40 pages away. You mark text back to the marked spot with JAWS key
plus space bar and then m.

When you refer to the "windows key", is that the
start menu key as well? I'm assuming it's not the insert key on the number
pad. Duh!

As a matter of fact, that did work. In the past I have tried to copy
things to the clipboard after having previously done so and I was
warned that it would overwrite what I already had there. Just now,
though, I copied a line with control+c and then did the same thing
with the Windows key using noncontiguous text and tested it by using
control+v to put it into Wordpad. It did copy. This turns out to be
handy to know. I could have used this bit of knowledge a long time ago.

I don't know if there is a limit, but I have added more than 2 items
before.

What if you want to copy more than two items?

To collect text on the clipboard, copy the first chunk you want,
then, after you have selected the next string you want on the

windows+c.

Re: Jaws Dictionary

Marquette, Ed <Ed.Marquette@...>

Just on "this Website" is the problem. I too would be interested in using the JAWS dictionary either on a specific Website or "on demand."
Theoretically, one could create a "specialized" dictionary, name it something unique, and then "copy" it over the otherwise applicable dictionary.
So, let's say one calls this "special" dictionary "special.dic". Presumably by using a batch file and the run dialog box, one could execute "special_dic.bat" and "resume_dic.bat" to copy over each other the respective dictionaries.
"Special_dic.bat" would have two commands as follows:
Copy c:\path\regularDictionary.dic c:\path\backupDictionary.dic
Copy c:\path\special.dic c:\path\regularDictionary.dic
Then, the resume_dictionary.bat would copy out the special dictionary and copy back the standard dictionary file.
It would be even better if this could all be done with a couple of scripts.
For me, this is primarily theoretical because I know neither the path nor the name of the standard default dictionary file.
If I did, I think I'd try something like the above. Here's why.
As much as I love Dragon Naturally Speaking, there are some errors it cannot and will not catch. So, I would create a "special" dictionary to catch common homonyms and sound-alike misses.
For instance, there are contexts where Dragon just does not know the difference between " two " spelled t w o and the word " too " spelled t o o.
I was burned the other day with "wants" spelled w a n t s and "once" spelled o n c e.
I have suggested to Freedom Scientific that a homonyms dictionary could be something that could be "turned" on in its Text Analyzer feature, but like all my suggestions to Freedom Scientific, ...

Hello,

is any way to make Jaws say the roman numerals as numbers just on this

Thanks,
