Go to your desktop and press control plus spacebar and you will hear not selected

Now press shift plus f10 and choose display in the menu

Now look in there for screen resolution and you need to have 1200 /800 or less for jaws to work well

Test a couple of those choices to you find the one that works best.

It's possibly a screen resolution issue, and I can't remember exactly where the setting is but it will be under "Display", and try lowering the resolution quite substantially.

Failing that though, if you know the cursor is jumping up a few rows, can't you just DownArrow a few times until it's back where it needs to be?

Hi!

I am using JAWS 2019 with Excel 2016.  Every time I exit Excel (alt+F4) after saving my workbook (Controls), both Excel and JAWS crash.  I do not know which crashes first, if that matters.  JAWS automatically restarts.  Excel comes up with the dialogue box saying that the program has stopped working and asks me if I would like to restart the program.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi Richard,

And since in Windows and Office there are always numerous ways to skin a cat, you can always just use the keyboard shortcut for Wordcount/statistics, Control+Shift+G.

F6 works for me too, but Word Count may not show up if it wasn’t checked after getting to the Status Bar settings with F6 and then doing shift+f10 to bring up the context menu and checking things like Word count, column, (which I find helpful as it tells you how far across the line you are, etc.

If you cannot get there with f6, alt+r then w will give you the word count, or it should anyway.

I seem to remember that pressing F6 would cycle me around the ribbon, document pane, status bar and so on.  Now, when I press F6 all I hear is “document pane.”  I want to get to the status bar so I can check on some statistics (e.g., number of words) in my document.  How do I get there?

I would like to use something that comes with a keyboard if possible but also am curious as to how people are finding using JAWS with tablets without keyboards. I would like to know which tablets work best with JAWS 2019 and what technical specifications I should be looking for the device to have for the fastest performance.

I find the name "Flexible Web" rather ironic as the reason why I don't use it is because it is not "Flexible" enough! I did use it very extensively when it was launched, but got fed up with rules not applying between browsers, and also I found I was having to create dozens of rules when only one would suffice if only I had a bit more control over how the feature worked.

For example, I want to be able to create a rule that says: on all web pages, in all browsers, suppress any frame with the word "google" in its URL. Thus suppressing all Google ads in one rule. This is not possible.

I'm a Chrome user and am just waiting for it to implement a reader mode. In the meantime I know about the Greesemonkey add-on and, when I get enough time to sit and play, I will get that working. Surely it will be more effective than Flexible Web.

Hi folks,

In Windows 7 and before I always found the Dvorak keyboard in Control
Panel in something like Languages or Keyboard or something loosely
related to that. But in Windows 10 the search boxes don't find it.

Hi - In my new job, I attend tons of meetings, have to take loads of notes,
and from those notes, keep an active list of action items. There are many
topics to keep track of, and when it gets real busy, I can lose track of
everything on my plate. Wondering how other professionals deal with this
kind of working situation. What I do now is keep several MS Word documents
as notebooks. Each time I attend a meeting, I open the appropriate Word
file, enter a new heading (easy to search for later with navigation quick
keys) and then start taking notes. If something comes up that I need to get
onto my to-do list, I put 3 asterisks there so I can search quickly for
those items later, and transfer them to my to-do list. I'm finding though
that when it gets busy, I don't always go back to the Word file and pull
those to-do items out and add them to my task list (in Outlook).
I messed around this afternoon with OneNote, but didn't find it very user
friendly with Jaws. Maybe I just don't know how to use it well. I've used it
in the past with the OneNote Blind scripts, but found them problematic after
a while and switched to the Word file notebook system above.
Any other apps or ideas for doing this kind of work with Jaws? Needs to be
efficient and easy to learn.

To expand on this post, Control+1 goes to Email, Control+2 to contacts and Control+3 to calendar from wherever you are in Outlook.

Do you mean that you want to return to Mail from Calendar?  If this is the case, then Control 1 will take you back to your inbox.  Also, Control Shift I will take you to the Inbox from wherever you are in Outlook. 

When in Calendar, is there any way of exiting without exiting Outlook?

Using latest 1803 version, Jaws 2019 and MS office 2016, what is the most efficient and Jaws friendly way to search the calendar for a past appointment? Used to do this on Office 2010 and have not since updating to Office 2016 but old way does not produce the same results. Googled this but did not find any good answered so before doing more advanced searches figured I’d check with the list.

i don't even know how to navigate with narrator cause i literally never use
it.
1 of the things i need to get to, when i open up this program, there
are a bunch of tabs across the top. In order to get to them, i use to
route jaws to PC, then go around and find them. i was gonna do it
with n v d a, but don't even know if nvda has another cursor cause i
hardly use it. trying to figure out whether it's a jaws problem, or a
windows problem. It's driving me crazy.
