I doubt that is a Jaws issue if it worked before, maybe something to do with the hardware on the two different laptops.

I, for example, use Roboform as a password manager. On all my desktops at work and my old laptop the Roboform menu which I access from the system tray is read just fine. But on my new laptop which has a 4K display Jaws only reads the first letter of each menu item and I have to do a page refresh and a say line for Jaws to read the menu item I am on. A small thing which is annoying and only happens on this one laptop. Have you tried to use the Jaws touch cursor to see if that helps?

Re: How do I get to the Status Bar in MS Word 2016 with JAWS 2019?
Hi Richard,
And since in Windows and Office there are always numerous ways to skin a cat, you can always just use the keyboard shortcut for Wordcount/statistics, Control+Shift+G.

Richard, F6 works for me too, but Word Count may not show up if it wasn’t checked after getting to the Status Bar settings with F6 and then doing shift+f10 to bring up the context menu and checking things like Word count, column, (which I find helpful as it tells you how far across the line you are, etc.
If you cannot get there with f6, alt+r then w will give you the word count, or it should anyway.

Re: JAWS 2019 and Microsoft Word not working properly together
Is it because of NVDA that you always put replies at the end of a message? I rarely ever read your messages because I typically don't feel like going through all the previous messages in the thread to see where you started writing. Also, and just to point out that I'm deliberately sarcastic here, if NVDA never fails why are you on a Jaws list?

Re: Excel 2016 and JAWS 2019 Always Crashing on Exit
Exactly, this happened a lot or maybe I should say it happened almost always in Windows 7 but it's not an issue in Windows 10. That is why I asked if this was Windows 7 or Windows 10. Windows 10 almost never crashes and Jaws 2018 and Jaws 2019 crash very rarely. Of course there is the little problem that in Windows 10 there are a number of other accessibility issues including greatly reduced usefulness of the Jaws cursor, but strictly when it comes to how stabil it is I have no complaints. I wouldn't hold my breath that anything will change with respect to this issue of Jaws/Excel in Windows 7 given that Windows 7 is very much on the backburner these days.

Well, I for one have few issues with Jaws 2019. I am on the private beta list as well and even found that throughout the beta cycle and before the first public beta came out Jaws 2019 worked quite well. Yes, for a while there was no automatic feedback in the Windows 10 Calculator and there were of course some other issues, but I have already removed Jaws 2018 from most of my computers.

This is one of the many things about these huge conglomerates buying up companies and insisting on deadlines for new releases that truly ticks me off. They could not care less about their customers. Atleast they recognize it is a good idea to keep a previous working version around. We no longer have any real competition in the screen reader market, so they don't have to be concerned. Too many jobs now depend on Jaws scripts so one cannot easily switch to NVDA or Dolphin and be productive, though I'm not sure how productive people can be when they have to spend so much time dealing with buggy new releases only to have to go back to the previous release to get anything done. Re: update problem with jaws 18 and display
Bill White
Hi, Sharon.
1. Locate the JAWS setup package you used to install the last update to JAWS 18. 2. This may involve going to the Freedom Scientific website and downloading the latest version of JAWS 18. 3. This is located in Downloads>JAWS>Previous versions of JAWS. 4. Put this installation file in the root of drive C. 5. Press the Windows Key with the R key to call up the “run” dialogue. 6. In this Run dialog, type the complete name of the JAWS Installation file: for example
C:\ J18.0.5038.400-enu-x64.exe /type repair
The name of your installation file may be a little different.
After typing this, press the ENTER key. JAWS will begin repairing itself.
If you need further help, you may call me at
714-835-6295, and I will walk you through the repair process.

Unless FS can come up with a specific solution; Unfortunately, and FS might recommend this if they don't come up with one; you may need to uninstall all previous versions of JAWS to resolve the issue. (It could even relate to Microsoft.net Framework version incompatibilities. I ran into an issue like that before, where an install wouldn't complete. However at the time I also had underlying braille display problems, so getting the display repaired/replaced was my main priority.) Maybe Microsoft Accessibility could help more directly, as was suggested earlier.)

question about best practices for note-taking and retreival
Amy Bower
Hi - In my new job, I attend tons of meetings, have to take loads of notes, and from those notes, keep an active list of action items. There are many topics to keep track of, and when it gets real busy, I can lose track of everything on my plate. Wondering how other professionals deal with this kind of working situation. What I do now is keep several MS Word documents as notebooks. Each time I attend a meeting, I open the appropriate Word file, enter a new heading (easy to search for later with navigation quick keys) and then start taking notes. If something comes up that I need to get onto my to-do list, I put 3 asterisks there so I can search quickly for those items later, and transfer them to my to-do list. I'm finding though that when it gets busy, I don't always go back to the Word file and pull those to-do items out and add them to my task list (in Outlook).
I messed around this afternoon with OneNote, but didn't find it very user friendly with Jaws. Maybe I just don't know how to use it well. I've used it in the past with the OneNote Blind scripts, but found them problematic after a while and switched to the Word file notebook system above. Any other apps or ideas for doing this kind of work with Jaws? Needs to be efficient and easy to learn. Thanks. -Amy

This Release oh, I see!! what you should do is uninstall jaws 2018 first and reinstall it. of course, if you have another jaws version or nvda use that to delete the folder for jaws 2018 before reinstalling it. you don't want to delete that folder while using same version while running it. reinstalling jaws 2018 will recreate the folder and put all necessary files back. so, after reinstalling jaws 2018 if you go back into the app data folder freedom scientific jaws folder you see another jaws 2018 folder in there. deleting this will not remove your jaws key or any shared folder for other versions of jaws. when uninstalling, you don't want to remove those unless jaws 2018 is the only version you have. then it's okay to delete everything and start from scratch.
