Why not, I have been using Jaws now for 29 years, since 1989.

Hi listers:

You know, I just took a calculator and compared what it would cost for a home user who was buying JAWS brand new, and keeping an SMA up-to-date, comparing that to the new subscription model.

So, if you buy JAWS new, for $900, then, you've got to pay $120 per 2 year period to keep the SMA up-to-date.  Comparing that to $90 per year, from what I can tell, it will take about 27 years before you end up paying more per year for the subscription than you would for keeping an SMA up-to-date.

And, will we be using JAWS in 27 years?

Cheers!

Hi John,

The only thing I can suggest is to opent the Settings Center, then press, control, shift + D, to open the Settings Center default all applications.
Now navigate down to, Mouse Echo closed, it's 22 of 25, and open this folder to see if there's a setting that can be tweaked to help with your mouse over issue.
Take care.  Mike.  Go Rams!

Also, how does one stop Edge loading automatically?

I have fixed the problem. On a whim I switched voice profiles from Eloquence, which is the synthesizer/profile I was using, to Microsoft Mobile. Upon doing this I noticed that the sound is once again heard when I pressed insert+space. When I returned to my Eloquence profile the sound continues to play.

Yes, this is what I ultimately might have to do if we can’t find another solution.  I have Jaws 2018 on this computer, so it would be easy enough to put that back in.

I’ve also posted a similar quiry to the Jaws users list, which I know Eric Damery and others monitor.

Another option will be to call FS Tech Support.

The phonetic thing is actually a new feature. It’s meant to help out folks who may have hearing issues or would like a little more help with distinguishing between letters. This feature is also present in the iOS platform.

You can go into Jaws settings and adjust the delay for when the phonetic pronunciation is spoken or disable it all together.

When I use the insert numpad 2 command to read an entire message, Jaws skips parts of lines.  I can read the complete lines by arrowing down through the message, but, as you can imagine, this gets quite cumbersome.

In addition, I have noticed that Jaws now gives phonetics for the first letter of a word when I navigate through a message that I’m composing, and I also notice that Jaws sometimes speaks the last character I type again after several seconds.

I seem to recall someone else having similar issues but am not sure how or whether they got resolved.

Hi,

Possibly because it is not compatible, as others have said. If not that, possibly because it is not activated. I sometimes have trouble here in that JAWS thinks my 40-minute mode has expired even though I have only just started up, which prevents activation from coming up. I would call Technical Support to get this problem resolved as it is a very cumbersome process to try and explain by email unless you know what you are doing.

Basically you would need to use an alternative screen reader and manually run the FS Activate program, which is located somewhere in Program Files.

Hi,

Your User Account Control has been changed. In the “search” area of the start menu type in UAC or user account controls. This will take you to where you can change the slider. Make it 0 and this should end the problem. This is a security feature with Windows. A good one but in the case of JAWS and other programs forces the user to allow the program to run each time it is started.

Hope this helps.

Hi Tom,

Below are a few ways of disabling the Preview pane:

From: Mike B.
Here is the solution freedom scientific suggested to fix this problem
Try the following:
1.  Activate windows explore "windows key+e"
2.  Tab to the command module toolbar organize button and hit enter
3.  Arrow down to the layout submenu and and right arrow to open the selections
4.  Arrow down to preview pane and if it's checked here, hit enter to uncheck this item.

If it's not checked here, press the alt key to exit the menu with no changes.

viewpane.  If it is unchecked, it's off.  If it's checked, it's on.  My

Hello, again, everyone.

I have discovered two more problems with Jaws 2019 and Outlook 2016 on my Windows 7 laptop.

I believe that the only way Microsoft Edge will start automatically is if you have an account and password set up within Microsoft Edge. Even if this is the case, and Microsoft Edge starts automatically, this should not conflict with JAWS starting at login.

Earlier I posted a message about some problems I was having with J2019 right after automatically loading at start up.

Recently, after an W1803 update, Edge has been loading automatically at start up. Could this create a conflict which would cause problems for J2019 loading properly?

Also, how does one stop Edge loading automatically?

Another Discovered Problem Since Upgrading To Jaws 2019

Tom Behler

Hello.

Please accept my apology for yet another post to the list.

However, I have just discovered another problem since upgrading to Jaws 2019 two days ago.

When I read a lengthy e-mail or Word document using the insert numpad 2 command, Jaws will often either cut off a line, or repeat lines.  In other words, the document or e-mail is no longer read through smoothly.

What should I be looking at to correct this new issue?

I have to say that the upgrade to Jaws 2019 has not gone as smoothly as past upgrades have gone.

For the record, I’m using Jaws 2019 and Office 365 on this Windows 7 laptop.

Re: For a friend New desktop computer window 10 Jaws 17

Matthew Horspool

Another one to try:
1. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Freedom Scientific\JAWS\[JAWS Version].
2. Find the file jfw.exe and press ALT+ENTER on it.
3. Press CTRL+TAB until you reach the compatibility tab.
4. Press TAB until you reach the "Run program as administrator" checkbox.
5. Press SPACE to change the state of this checkbox and press ENTER to
close the dialog.

Hello there;

Also, Alt + P, will check or uncheck the Preview pane while in a open dialogue box in Word 2010.

Another list member sent instructions for how to do this, which you may
not have seen.  I'll tell you how this is done in case you missed it.
That's where I learned how to turn it on or off.

When you are in a drive or folder, shift tab until you get to a button
that says organize.  You are on a tool bar.  Start right arrowing through
the items in the tool bar and you will get to a check box that says
viewpane.  If it is unchecked, it's off.  If it's checked, it's on.  My
guess is that it is off by default.

From: david

1, computer,

2, alt+t=tools,

3, o=options,

4, shift+tab to general,

5, right arrow to view,

6, tab to the tree-view,

7, press the letter s=Show preview handlers in preview pane-On Press spacebar to set to off, Now tab okay press enter.
