Hi,

Your User Account Control has been changed.  In the “search” area of the start menu type in UAC or user account controls.  This will take you to where you can change the slider.  Make it 0 and this should end the problem.  This is a security feature with Windows.  A good one but in the case of JAWS and other programs forces  the user to allow the program to run each time it is started.

Hope this helps.

Dan

All of the sudden, every time I launch Jaws, I have to give the bloody User Account Control permission for the Application File for Jaws to run.

Anyone know where in blazes that is coming from in Windows 10 Home 64 bit?

Thanks,

hi, try using either the left alt key or the right alt key. sometimes with my computer the right alt key doesn't work using key combos. never could figure out why this would happen but it does.
good luck.

Is there another way to do this?

For the record, I have the folder pane set to normal, and the reading pane

Hello, everyone.

I am not sure if this is totally Jaws related, so please bare with my
question here.

Recently, I have found that my computer boggs down when arrowing down
through a list of Outlook 2016 e-mail in-box messages. I find that, after I
get to approximately the 30th message in the listview, Jaws and my computer
boggs down to the point that I have to wait for one or two seconds to arrow
down to the next message. Right now I have about 45 messages in my inbox.

Has anyone else found this problem, and if so, what did you do to correct
it?

For the record, this problem has only started to occur recently. I'm using
Windows 7 with Jaws 2019 on a business-grade Dell laptop.

Hi Steve,

1. Open the browser and press, Insert / Jaws key + v, to open quick settings.
2. Arrow dow to, Virtual Cursor Options, and right arrow if it's closed.
3. Arrow down a couple of times to either, Select and copy from virtual cursor, or, Select and Copy Full content using onscreen highlight.  Press the spacebar to toggle between the 2, and after making your choice tab to, Okay, press enter to save and close.
Take care.  Mike.  Go Rams!

Re: Why am I hearing Inverted cap i at 1 and other such distracting things in Jaws 2019

Richard Turner

Maybe an example will help explain my question about Jaws saying inverted I in Jaws 2019.

In the Apple devices like iPhones  the operating system is written with a small I and then capitalized OS, but Jaws is reading that as “Inverted cap I at 1 iOS,” when it starts a line.

Any ideas what the heck setting is causing this?

In Jaws 2018 I don’t hear things like this in Outlook messages or Word documents.

In 2019 I do.  I imported my settings over from 2018.

Any experienced Jaws users have an idea where that might be coming from?

Many of us have used Jaws for approximately those number of years, already.  I got my first copy of Jaws when I was a telemarketer in 97; and there are those on this list who have used Jaws for a longer time than that.  Judging from their accounts.

Hi listers:

You know, I just took a calculator and compared what it would cost for a home user who was buying JAWS brand new, and keeping an SMA up-to-date, comparing that to the new subscription model.

So, if you buy JAWS new, for $900, then, you've got to pay $120 per 2 year period to keep the SMA up-to-date.  Comparing that to $90 per year, from what I can tell, it will take about 27 years before you end up paying more per year for the subscription than you would for keeping an SMA up-to-date.

And, will we be using JAWS in 27 years?

Cheers!

Hi,

With all due respect.  There are so many scenarios that it is impossible to state which is the best.  Vespiro has clearly stated the choices and each person must figure out what  works best for them or the company that provides the software at their place of employment.

In my opinion, let’s keep the list focused on the operation, issues and problems with JAWS and related software.

I think Siegart, sorry if I spelled your name incorrectly, hit the nail on the head when he talked about  the hard drive being on its last legs.  Maybe I am out of the loop of techies however, when I hear the term refurbished, I think new hard drive, new battery  and brand new operating system.  In this case, I think they just installed a windows 10 CD. It runs hot within 10 minutes. This is why I think it is running something it does not have the power to run and is basically working to hard.

Since I put an SSD in it, it flies, compared to what it used to do.

It started with JAWS 18.  I now have a Mac Book pro that was built around 012.  It was converted to a windows 10 computer and it runs a lot faster. That is just my thoughts, yes a windows 7 can be upgraded to 10, you just might get frustrated with the slowness of the performance.

Subject: Re: For a friend New desktop computer window 10 Jaws 17

Well, my first question would be, which version of windows 10, it is changing about twice a year.  My second question would be, does a jaws 17 work on that new of a windows 10.  I suspect an upgrade  of jaws will be needed to fix the problem.
