Re: J2019 & Edge starting automatically--in conflict?
Bill White <billwhite92701@...>
I believe that the only way Microsoft Edge will start automatically is if you have an account and password set up within Microsoft Edge. Even if this is the case, and Microsoft Edge starts automatically, this should not conflict with JAWS starting at login.

Earlier I posted a message about some problems I was having with J2019 right after automatically loading at start up.
Recently, after an W1803 update, Edge has been loading automatically at start up. Could this create a conflict which would cause problems for J2019 loading properly?
Also, how does one stop Edge loading automatically?

As I see it, they are basically saying that us users outside the US don’t really require a more affordable way to purchase Jaws and that they are only giving this more affordable option to people in the US. I’m also wondering what for example will stop me from simply using a friends US address when signing up for this plan. I doubt they’ll be monitoring where a user is located while using it, I think the only important thing to them is the address at sign up. Nick

Re: Office 2016 changeing a password on an account
Matthew Horspool
Hi Nino, Simple answer is I don't know! However, if Outlook is unable to log into an account, it ought to pop up a password box at that point. So my advice would be to go ahead and change the password of the account itself and then let Outlook fail to log in next time you start it up. Matthew

Re: 2019 not fully functional after boot up

Hi Stan, I saw this sort of behaviour early in the beta cycle for 2019. Not sure what the problem was as I could never get to the bottom of it either, but it got fixed for me before the official release. Matthew

I have jaws set to start up automatically at log in page and after log in.
After boot up in the morning, j2019 opens fine but will not recognize headings, form fields and other elements. It will read a text field. I have tried task switching and page reload, but these do not help. After unloading jaws and reloading it everything works great.
If later in the day, I sign out and back in all works fine.
Any suggestions?

Re: Jaws 2019 dowload trouble
Matthew Horspool
Hello David, Have you tried downloading the full offline installer from the following URL? https://www.freedomscientific.com/Downloads/OfflineInstallers#jaws Usually the installer has to download components as part of the installation process and perhaps this is what is triggering your security software. The offline installer is significantly larger (over 500 MB) but all of the components are included, so no downloading needs to happen on the fly. Matthew

What anti-virus program are most list users using, and how did you acquire it?

Probably has to do with issues such as licensing, distributor ships, all sorts of legalities and any sort of Country specific requirements for e-commerce. Patience grasshopper. I’m sure they’ll eventually roll it out internationally as these things get resolved.

Well, it used to be 101 keys, but I don't remember if that was before or after the windows key. Good luck getting that information, though, I don't think I've read it anywhere lately.

The only way to know is to take a very observant sighted person and go shopping, or be prepared to return whatever it is you buy. Heck, even Microsoft has left a separate applications key off of some of their keyboards and they invented the thing.

Hello. There really is no way to know what you're getting with a mail-order laptop. Also, the big box stores aren't going to be beaten by much on the price of a large item like that, they over-price small stuff but are pretty competitive on the big stuff. Mail-order laptops aren't really worth the risk.

Now, as far as what you're dealing with, I've spent a lot of time in the last year looking at laptop keyboards. There are generally other ways to do what you need to do. For your home end, page up and page down, try holding down the fn key (usually it is either the left most key on the bottom row, or it is the second from the left and using the arrow keys. On my laptop there is also a special combination for the applications key, I believe it is fn plus the key just to the left of the separate arrows. You can always fall back on the applications combination that was around before the separate key, that was shift-f10. Another sweet litttle trick manufacturers do is to make the up and down arrows as half-height keys, HP seems to like that one. The best keyboard I saw all year comes from Asus, and if I had to buy a laptop right now, I'd start looking there.

For starters you eather need to have someone go into the bios and change the defalt of the function keys. They now are set for hp device operations, and you need to change it to just f keys.
If you do not do this then you would have to press the function key and along with your jaws key and f 7 to have the jaws action take place. And this would be for all f key operations.

Richard Turner <richardturner42@...>
The keyboard specs should be part of the details about the laptop before you place the order. Of course, putting your hands on one first is the best way to go. I have not used the jaws laptop layout, but it is suppose to give you all the functionality of the full keyboard.
