Re: How do I get Outlook 2016 to stop reading a message's subject line when I open it?
Richard Turner
Matthew, this is a different Richard, I’m using Jaws 2019, Windows 10 home 1809, I have Office 365. In Outlook, following your steps with the settings, the reading behavior does not change. I still hear the subject and message type read after hitting enter on the Email. And, it won’t automatically read… The message type is uncheck, yet, I hear each time if the Email is HTML, plain text, etc. I’m off to work, where I have Jaws 2018 and Windows 7 and outlook 2016 so I will check there.

Hi!
In JFW 15 with Outlook 2007, I use to be able to have an opened message begin automatically start reading but not its subject line, just the message body. I don’t need the subject line re-read because I already know it from the message’s preview in Outlook’s list box as I scroll down my inbox. Now, with JFW 2019 and Outlook 2016 the message’s subject line reads after I open it as JFW begins to read the message’s body. How can I stop the message’s subject line from reading?

Re: I signing hot keys question
Matthew Horspool
Hi James, It is possible to do this, but you will need to edit the JKM file by hand. The syntax for layered keys is: For example, if I want to announce the time by pressing SHIFT+SPACE, followed by the letter T, I would need to add a line like this: If you require more comprehensive instructions on how to edit JKM files by hand, please get back to me. Best wishes, Matthew

Some hot keys in the keyboard manager have the user pressed a modifier key plus the space bar then a letter. Is it possible for you to change these hot keys? If so, how do you assign that kind of a hockey without having jaws just recognize two buttons you push? For example Whenever I try to assign a function to the hot key shift plus space bar plus the letter k, jaws only records shift and the space bar. But, I want to assign a function to shift plus the space bar than the press of a letter. I think these are called double layer hot keys. But I’m not sure. Thank you for anyone who can help

JAWS 2018.1808.10 Reports Incorrect File Count in File Explorer
Steve Matzura
This has been annoying me for some time now, but today it annoyed me enough to scare me. I have a directory that I absolutely know has fifty-one files in it. Sometimes when I'm looking at files toward the top of the list, JAWS says the file is numbered one of twenty-three, or maybe some other higher number first, then "of twenty-three," and if I'm further down the list, JAWS may say "so-and-so of twenty-nine." Never do I hear "so-and-so of fifty-one." This is in Windows 10, 1803, build 345, the window is maximized, I'm in list view, I even tried details view, same thing. Anybody have any i-dears? I'm all ears. LOL

Re: reading markers
Matthew Horspool
Hi Ed, This is a Word option: 1. Press ALT+F, then T for Word Options. 2. In the tree view, press D for Display. 3. TAB to the group of controls labelled "Always show these formatting marks on the screen". Make sure all the checkboxes in that group are unchecked, unless you particularly want certain markers shown. 4. Press ENTER. In certain versions of Office, there is also a keystroke to toggle on and off all formatting marks, but I can't remember what it is. Memory says it is CTRL+SHIFT+8, but maybe it's 9 or 7 or 6. Feel free to experiment. Hope this helps, Matthew

Sorry, but you didn't say it was an email, I assumed it was an attached PDF. Anyhow, you can still recognize the current screen or window although this may include other stuff you may not want. The keys for doing OCR on the screen is Jaws Key+Spacebar followed by O and S, for recognizing the current Window it is Jaws Key+Spacebar followed by O and W. If it isn't secret, could you forward one of the Safeway receipt emails to me, I don't mind taking a look in case I can suggest anything else. If you don't want to forward it to the list you can send it to sieghard@...
