What business idea was shared with you? Can you give just some rough examples of some of these potential income streams? Just curious.
I once read some posts on a different list where somebody was setting up Go Fund Me campagnes asking for money to buy stuff, hopefully your "business idea" is di

Online fund raising just as traditional fund raising for a specific purpose where maybe a family's home burned down or the primary bread winner of the family was seriously hurt or killed in an accident is fine and I have often contributed to such fund raisers. But nowadays when you look at Go Fund Me or other such sites where people beg for money because they want to go on vacation or because they can't afford something they want then I certainly wouldn't give them a single Penny. Once a very very long time ago when I was very young I fell for one of these get rich schemes with real estate. I happened to hear this infomercial about this guy who was just itching to share with everybody how you can get rich in less than a year buy buying real estate and he showed off all these happy people who bought his tutorial for $199 which was only $99 if you acted now and on and on. Of course it came with a full money back guaranty and naiive as I was I ordered it. It ended up being like a dozen CD's where he went on and on saying nothing and repeating himself and it was a complete waste of time and money. I called to get my money back but of course because of some condition I forgot I didn't qualify, basically guys like that are like the old snakeoil sales people who sell a cure for something and the only thing it cures is their own wallet.

Good morning everyone,
A lot of blind people also choose not to create income streams to generate the money to self-fund whatever blindness products and services they need. Mary and I have many ideas for generating additional income streams. We have heard nothing but excuses from blind people we tried to reach out to to help them improve their financial situation. Thanks to someone sharing a business idea with us years ago this past January we were able to buy the latest upgrade of Jaws for Windows, the Dusbury Braille Translator, and my wife Mary bought herself a Braille-Edge 40 without seeking help from rehab thank you
Let me shut down some other rubbish that has come upon other lists on which we shared these accomplishments. Recall above that we said we're willing to help others accomplish what we have done to be better positioned to meet the costs of blindness products and services only to be told we were braggers, and were called many other names I won't repeat. Braggers don't reach out to help others improve their financial situation. I hate to say it but those with such mindsets and who do nothing but complain about the high cost of blindness products and services without being willing to do something about it have created their own problems. While it's true society doesn't always have the best attitude towards the blind the blind themselves are also responsible for their lack of financial resources if opportunities are placed in their laps and they fail to get on board.
I also want to commend VFO for it's new pricing and authorization scheme. They have done something to make it easier for blind people to buy their products. It's now up to blind individuals to seek out opportunities to develop the needed income streams so they can buy whatever VFO product they need without having to turn to rehab for help. Again Mary and I stand ready to assist anyone wishing to follow our lead so they can do what we've accomplished. All the best.

Hello, everyone.
I have been reading bits and pieces of info, but can t seem to find a nice concise summary of the new Jaws annual home license that apparently is now available with the release of Jaws 2019.
Jaws 2019 is the last Jaws upgrade on my SMA, so I will need to do something to renew it at some point.
Up until now, I ve renewed my Jaws Home SMA for a two-year period for $120.
If there now is a more economical way to do this, I d certainly love to learn about it.

Then he would take them to a store and cash them in for money. This is how he would supplement his income. To me this is steeling. Now, having said this, we run dogs on a trail and frequently find the same things, empties. We cash them in, however, to us it is just cleaning up the environment. Especially when the amount we cashed in could not even pay for a 32 G, SD card. There was someone that would go to beaches on weekends and clean them up. She made enough money doing this each year that she could go to Hawaii every year.

Hello again everyone,
Truthfully we've suggested a number of different ideas to different blind individuals for generating needed income to cover the cost of technologhy. Some of these included dumpster diving, becoming certified Braille transcribers and proofreaders along with other ideas. Before writing this note I sent a message to an old schoolfriend of mine who has written a number of books one of which is in audio format. He said that his audio version sold out and he no longer had copies on CD but could provide them in MP3 format. I suggested making his book available through Audible allowing many others to buy it in an audio format and adding an additional source of passive income to his portfolio. That has as much to do with network marketing as this list! All the best.

Good morning everyone,
Evasiveness, Persistency and most of all commitment work! We have a Braille-Edge 40, Duxbury, and the latest version of Jaws For Windows to prove it! This is just scratching the surface. And since covering the cost of assistive technology such as Jaws is important to the blind it seems like some brainstorming is in order.

Man, I don’t want to be a Debbie downer, but no, this doesn’t’ sound sketchy at all…
As far as the cost of blindness related technology.
While prices for some stuff can still be eye watering, the trend has indeed gone down. Vispero’s new pricing model being the most recent example of that. Despite Gerald’s reflexive “The Sky is Falling”, I’m sure the Vispero folks scratch padded their new structure and after all their number crunching, they must have been satisfied enough to go forward. Just spitballing, $90 a month as opposed to one shot deals of $900 with $60 yearly SMAs after that may give them a more solid and consistent revenue stream. Let folks catch up and give even other people the chance to dip their toes into the Jaws world and probably end up retaining a lot of them when it comes time to renew.
Who knows, maybe between NVDA’s improvements and Microsoft’s Narrator push, this was the competition that was necessary to finally break down that initial price barrier for acquiring Jaws.
Newer and cheaper Braille displays are on the market, OCR solutions aren’t only confined to K1000 anymore. I mean, you could get by with the KNFBReader Windows app that cost $20. ABBY FineReader too. This isn’t even mentioning the iOS/mobile stuff.
Stuff sure isn’t suddenly cheap, but man, it’s not how it used to be before where unless you had access to a governmental program, had a family well off enough to pay for it, maybe pawned off your soul to get financing to buy a piece of tech or could play with it until you graduated out of school you were more or less straight out of luck.

I am kind of in a bind. The time collection program we use here at work is no longer going to be supported on the desk top version. I had scripts developed for this version but now they are moving to the web platform.
At best I think the site is poorley written. It is entirely possible that I don’t have all the skills to work with this site but I have found several unlabled elements, The virtual curser treats the lines in a grid as one continuous line

If I contact the rehab agency here to help can it even be done? Can a script be written for a web application?

Re: Can scripts be made for particular websites?
I have tried to get through to the developers for this but sales and support seem to be shielding them. I had told support many times how important keyboard access is but the message never made it or it fell on deaf ears. Since I was able to have scripts to fix the desk top version they probibly figure I should be able to do it again. I don‘T know of any laws with respect to private companies and accessibility of their products.
I am having a devil of a time trying to get the scripter that worked on the last version to even look at it to see if it can be done. I have asked him three times how much the evaluation would cost and he wont answer me. I need to know if i can use it asap. The renewal is time sensitive.

Re: How to make jaws read number of items
Hi Bill,
Shift tab in Outlook 2013, on my system anyway, gives me the number of unread messages which is quite useful.
Insert tab gives more info like number in the list, i.e. 11 of 25, but with more verbage.
The first method gives less info but it punishes my ears less.

Although I do think Kelly's message was a little over the top, I would not go as far to say Kelly was labeling people. I think Dan Longmore's message was based on the fact that, a nerve was touched. We should stay away from the label of being judgmental just because we are a Christian. After all, statistics have repeatedly shown that a lot of wars were started in the name of Christianity which is not what Jesus Christ preached. Time, I think to get to other matters rather then slinging mud at each other. In the name of fairness, perhaps Peter could clarify what exactly he does. Honestly, if that was done it could negate a lot of negative posts and claims of being judgmental or being called God.

I have a short question? If you already own a product and you are satisfied, why would you want or need to pay for an item based on subscription? What is the point unless you want to keep up with the updates, and or you don't have the money to pay for upgrades every two years. No one has mentioned the price of this annual subscription. Could someone please provide this information?

Yes I have my windows maximized and detailed view on. It still doesn’t do it. If I hit shift tab then shift tab again that takes the cursor to the QuickView folder list then back to the actual folder I am in then it will count the number of items. Otherwise it did not do it automatically.

Re: Covering the Cost of Blindness Technology
To bring this back to actual assistive technology. One thing folks could do is to generate money by doing online surveys and participate in other marketing programs. My wife does this when she's got time and has accumulated money here and there. Surveys, answering emails. That sort of thing. I farted around with it for a bit, but while accessible depending on the service you use, I was just too busy with other stuff in general to really rack up points to redeem for cash or gift cards, etc. She also participates in programs like Shopkick, iBotta, Swagbucs and so on. These are on iPhone, but still. https://www.thewaystowealth.com/make-money/money-making-apps/Last year, when she upgraded from her iPad Air II to the 2017 iPad Pro, we ended up redeeming over $400 in giftcards. A mixture of BestBuy points, Shopkicks and other survey stuff she had stacked. Between that and the Air II that we turned around and sold on NextDoor, I think we actually made money. While a blind person most likely isn't going to go shopkicking or doing iBotta since it involves scanning stuff in stores, the survey/marketing stuff is doable and if you're not doing anything else and have time to kill, why not? Be aware though, if you make a lot of money via these services, you will get a 1099. If you're on any sort of fixed income program this may affect your ratios since it would be considered income. Something to also keep in mind with any of Peter's "ideas". This sucks since it puts a lot of folks in a catch 22, but debating the fairness of SSI and the restrictions it places on how much you can earn is a totally separate issue. If nothing else though, you won't have to dumpster dive just to make a few extra bucks. And before anyone gets all uptight. There's absolutely no hshame in or anything wrong with dumpster rummaging. I know a guy who makes decent coin dealing in trash. Metals, scrap, recyclables. But to actually put this forth as a viable option for a blind person to engage in to make money? Come on. Stop. get serious. Cristóbal

Dan, I appreciate your commitment to your faith and the work you do. I did not have in mind Christians in general or evangelicals. the latter is occasionally ridiculed for their style of religious teaching. Peter's evasiveness and persistence reminds me specifically of Jehovah's Witnesses at the train station. Few can actually describe their faith accurately and prospects are pursued vigorously. It seems to me that if and when the SMA program is terminated, the least they can do is discount the licenses with additional years. Has Freedom Scientific/VFO/Vispero forgotten that most blind people don't have a lot of money since so many of us are not employed or receive our JAWS from agencies?

I do have one concern, though.
$90 a year doesn t seem to be that great of a deal, since back in 2016, I got two years of Jaws for $120, as long as I purchased the license by December 31.
Am I missing something?

Subject: Need Details On New Annual Jaws Home Subscription
Hello, everyone.
I have been reading bits and pieces of info, but can t seem to find a nice concise summary of the new Jaws annual home license that apparently is now available with the release of Jaws 2019.
Jaws 2019 is the last Jaws upgrade on my SMA, so I will need to do something to renew it at some point.
Up until now, I ve renewed my Jaws Home SMA for a two-year period for $120.
If there now is a more economical way to do this, I d certainly love to learn about it.

Yes, using the product number is supposed to work. My guess is
something is going wrong with margins. They should be fixed right
in the label definition, but I've seen it get messed up before.
I've never found a way to fix it either. It might be worth
checking your labels to see if any other numbers would work and
trying one of those.

Re: How to make jaws read number of items
Sieghard,
Conversations in my Outlook 2013 are turned off and all seems to work as they should except when there are more than 23 messages in the list.
Anyway, it is not a big deal and does not cause me any grief because shift tab gives the correct number.

I also have this situation. It appears that somehow a maximum of 13 is the count in any Folder where I have many additional files.
If I pres Enter + T it reads the file name and whatever it's place in 13. And, when I press Enter + Tab I hear the same.
Thanks.

Hi Tom,
It also depends whether you have conversations turned on in Outlook, I find that this does make it more difficult for Jaws to give an exact message count as in 3 of 46 or whatever.
