yes, for Tandem, JAWS is needed on the controller and remote computer,
but not for Remote Desktop.

I'll take a shot:

JAWS has a feature called Tandem Direct which requires the remote
computer user to type a code to connect to the controler via the Tandem
server or, to answer your question, you can pay a one time charge for a
capability for JAWS to use the facility in Windows called Remote Desktop
to be able to connect and interact with the remote computer with or
without the need to depend on JAWS to be on the remote computer.

I don't think using a VPN would provide the necessary interaction of
JAWS to take control of the remote computer like connecting via the
Tandem server would provide.

I don't know of any other means of achieving what you're wanting to do,
but perhaps others will provide some input.

Ed,

If you have any questions on any of the layered commands, do the following:

JAWS+Spacebar

Then press the Question Mark Key

This will give you a general listing of layered commands and what they do

Or, JAWS+Spacebar

then press one of the layered commands such as O, H, etc.

then press the question mark key.

This will give you specific options for that layered command.

I don't think there is any way to do that. They need Jaws on the
other end of the connection. If this is a job, maybe your employer
would pay for Aira.

Re: Remote connections:

Hi Charles. You are correct. JAWS Tandem requires that the screen reader be installed on both computers. Remote access would also require JAWS to be on your computer, and on the server side or client computer. There are several ways to utilize Remote access. That would depend on how the company does what they do to allow someone like yourself to remote into their system. RDP, Remote Desktop Protocol is one method. Also JAWS supports some Citrix connections as well. Hope this helps.

A straight "Reply" to a groups.io message in e-mail always goes to the entire group.  That's the way message lists/groups work.  The options at the bottom of each message presented as links are for when you want exceptions to the default behavior.

Marty,

The Private button is present on the Groups.io web interface (on groups that allow private messaging) and appears directly below the compose box.  It allows you to send a response only to the individual whose message you're responding to.

You can get the same effect in the e-mail interface using the "Reply to Sender" link at the bottom of each and every message that gets sent out by Groups.io, presuming you're not using plain text for your message format.

OK, I see the links at the bottom of the messages.  I have just been hitting Control+R to respond.  Does this go out to the entire group, or just to the last person in the thread in the message on my computer?

If you use Windows 10 you need to go to Settings > Apps > Default Apps and set Outlook as your default mail client.

Hello,

I am replying to this thread only because I have been having trouble posting directly to the list using MS Outlook, though I have joined it. So, just as a test, I have clicked on the e-mail address for the group seen in some of the posts. When I do that, I am sent to Windows Mail,  not Outlook, which is my mail client. I can read the mail from the group in Outlook. So, I am wondering if it is not possible to actually send a post to this group using Outlook? I did e-mail the list moderator with no response.

I agree with Richard, when I read messages I delete them when I read the message and if another person replies a day later referring to something but he does not have the thread in his message I found it is often unclear what this refers to. I guess in such a case I just also delete he message since I may not be able torespond not knowing the context, but while a long thread may not be always useful it doesn’t bother me since the new reply is at the top (if it isn’t then that is not my problem) so I don’t have to read the entire thread, but if I do want to refer back to something then I can or if I look for a link that was in a message 5 replies further down the thread then it is easy to find..

I think keeping the subject line clear and specific will help a lot, even if it needs to be changed/updated to fit a new thread from the original. Just my opinion.

This is my Pet Peeve for the month:

Those of you, and there are several so I'm not pointing out anyone in

particular, on this list who have there email set to not quote the previous

message make it very difficult for those of us who want to help. If you do

not explain the context of your message, it often leaves me scratching my

head wondering what the heck the person is replying to.

So, please consider summarizing the answer you are replying to so we might

be able to offer a different suggestion, or set your email program to

include the prior message.

Just my thoughts. I often want to assist, but have no idea what the issue

is, so I simply delete the message.
