Jaws In Demo Mode After Shutdown And Re-boot
Tom Behler
Hello, everyone.
This morning, I experienced a very strange problem with Jaws when booting up my current windows 7 computer.
Even though my SMA is current, and I’ve been using the latest build of Jaws 2018 for a number of months now, Jaws came up in demo mode.
I exited out of Jaws, and then re-loaded the program, and I was back in business, but I’m now wondering why this is occurring.
I seem to recall others having a similar issue.
Thanks for any wisdom anyone can provide.

As Richard said, Jaws is reading the path to the graphics. Sloppy coding from someone who may be clueless about accessibility.

CN is definitely out since direct messaging no longer works therein.

TW Blue is a good alternative, although there are some quirks with it. First, If you send a direct message and manually enter the recipient's Twitter name, then tab to the text field, TW Blue thinks you're replying to whatever message happens to be in focus in its internal list, but the message does in fact go to its intended recipient. Second, If you have never activated a Twitter account using TW Blue, you must use what's called a snapshot build, which you can get from the TW Blue Website, http://www.twblue.es. Snapshot builds have some extra code in them that uses Twitter's old way of authorizing a new application. TW Blue does have a keymap for Chicken Nugget. It isn't perfect, but once one gets used to it, it does do what it's supposed to.

Re: Rufis
Lifted from the middle of a set of instructions for doing a completely clean install of Windows 10, using Rufus to create the bootable USB drive using the Win10 ISO file. The steps are the same regardless of the ISO file being used, though the answer to the MBR versus GPT part is not as important if you're not installing the operating system but just booting from a drive that contains a tool or tools.
------------------------------------------ Use Rufus (or a similar utility of your choosing) to burn the ISO to a flash drive to create bootable media. The following lettered steps presume you’re using Rufus. Attach your flash drive and run Rufus. In the first dropdown box: a) If you know your machine is newer hardware that uses UEFI as opposed to BIOS, select GPT partition scheme for UEFI. If the machine originally came with Windows 8 or Windows 10 this is definitely the choice to make. b) If you know your machine is older and uses BIOS, or are uncertain as to whether you have BIOS or UEFI, select MBR partition scheme for UEFI or BIOS. Virtually all machines that came with Windows 7 (and earlier Windows) were produced with BIOS and use MBR partitioning. Leave the other checkboxes checked or unchecked with their defaults. 4. Find the Create a bootable disc using checkbox and make sure that the option ISO image is selected from the dropdown next to it. Just beyond that dropdown is the Click to select an image . . . button. Activate it and you will be presented with the standard Windows browse dialog that lets you locate and select the Windows 10 ISO file from wherever you saved it. 5. Activate the Start button. The ISO image will now be burned to the flash drive as bootable. --Brian - Windows 10 Home, 64-Bit, Version 1809, Build 17763 If you remove all the homosexuals and homosexual influences from what is generally regarded as American culture, you are pretty much left with Let's Make a Deal. ~ Fran Lebowitz

That is because the webmaster did not use an "alt tag" on the pictures/grapfics. Those are usually the path to the graphic file. Quite annoying.

They usually start with "http://... as if it is a URL for another site. If there a setting in verbosity that will limit or skip these anoyances?

Reporting Issues with JAWS to Vispero Technical Support
I know that there are a great many seasoned JAWS users here who have the art of trouble reporting to Vispero (formerly VFO, formerly Freedom Scientific) perfected. I also know that there are a great many new JAWS users who are reading at any given time who have no idea how to do so. I have two current clients where we have been encountering bugs with JAWS who had absolutely no idea of how to report these to Vispero. So, this evening I put together a brief "how to" document for those clients, and I thought I'd share that here in case someone else might find it useful.
---------------------------------- Reporting Issues with JAWS to Vispero (formerly VFO, formerly Freedom Scientific) Technical Support As of this date, 10/19/2018, the e-mail address for Vispero Technical Support is Support@.... I personally prefer to use this method if I have to report a lot of specific steps to reproduce a problem. I compose the e-mail as I take each step, adding them as I go along, so that I forget nothing.
1. It is impossible to fix something that cannot be reproduced. Some issues are intermittent, and support will realize this, but if you are able to give the specific steps to make something happen that’s “the gold standard” of trouble reporting. 2. If the issue is with behavior on a specific webpage, and that webpage does not require login credentials or otherwise have private information (e.g., certain Google Drive pages that are shared with you), please supply the web address of the page as part of the report. 3. If you are having problems finding something using JAWS find that either: a. A sighted assistant is telling you that they can actually see on a page. b. You can find if you do brute force tabbing around a page. definitely report this. This is particularly critical on webpages where any object, whether a link, button, etc., etc., that is present is not being recognized by a JAWS find. 4. If the issue is occurring with a specific program, identify the program as well as the version, e.g, Word 2013, Chrome 69.0.3497.100, etc. In addition, please include the version of JAWS and Windows you’re working with.
