Another option is to use the “recognize with JAWS feature, and bypass Adobe Acrobat DC altogether.

Hi listers:
Recently, I have been needing to access some PDF’s. For some reason, whenever I try to use Acrobat Reader DC, the program seems to be very sluggish, sometimes, even unresponsive. Is this becoming a problem? If so, is there another solution that will work better with JFW?
Thanks!

Well, it won't erase your current version, so you have nothing to lose but a little time and space. The beta fixed my thunderbird problem, and hasn't broken anything I can find yet.

Hi Brian,
I'm using Firefox. When I press Ctrl + F, the JAWS virtual find replaces the browser find window. If I'm at the top of the page and search for Settings, it takes me to the Chat settings button; if I then search again it gets me to the Settings button menu.
Another way to get there is with JAWSkey + F5, which lists all form fields, and then S a few times to Settings, then Enter to close the list and put focus on the button menu.
Or, it's just before the Main region. So press R until you get to that, then UpArrow once.

I am having the same problem of it loosing focus. It has been going on for at least a couple of weeks. The only thing that seems to work is, windows D. I hate calling tech support with things like this because calling Microsoft I have got on the odd occasion someone who does not know what they are doing and they don’t fix the problem. They almost create a new one. I don’t have time to sit on hold, then wait a hour or so while they try and fix the problem. I have a job which does not entail sitting on hold baby sitting the phone. Then of course there is the problem I ran into this morning with BFO. The dreaded “It should work” then the calls mysteriously being disconnected. I don’t expect that much however, when a product costs hundreds of dollars, I have a right to expect good tech support, not the easy way out of saying for one thing, “It is not a true windows computer it is a mac book converted to a windows computer that is the problem.” Even a Bonafide windows computer had the same problem. Time to come up with another excuse.

I do tech support for a state agency, and support a user on Fusion 2018. He has a 64 bit Windows 10 desktop machine with Office 2016. For this user, Jaws frequently seems to lose focus and stops voicing any detailed information. For example, it will voice "alt-tab" when those keys are used, but won't announce the window it's on and is completely silent if the user drops into any given window. The only fix I've come up with is completely closing and restarting Fusion. It seems to be connected with Office 2016, particularly Outlook. Also, does anyone know of a keyboard command to completely unload Fusion? Closing the software is nearly impossible for the user when Jaws is voicing so little information.

One thought is maybe your screen echo has changed. While in Outlook press, Jaws key + S, to tobble through settings. They are Highlighted, All, & None. It sounds like it might be set on, All, so switch it to, Highlighted, and see if that helps. Take care. Mike. Hello list, I’ve been having this issue for a while now. I can’t recall when it started, but regardless, it happens every single time I switch folders in Outlook 2016. Be it a main inbox or subfolder, etc. I get the below message every time I switch folders. List box Connectivity to your server. Connected I don’t need to be informed that I’m connected all the time. Any ideas on how to stop this? I’ve got 6 email accounts configured with a mixture of imap and exchange. This will occur regardless if I switch to an imap folder. Anyway, I’m on Jaws 2018 and recently started to play with the JFW 2019 beta. This exact same behavior is occurring in the beta so I know at this point it’s not just my JFW 2018 version. I’m sure it has to do with a setting I’m not aware of or have perhaps by accident enabled. Thanks, Cristóbal

Re: Gmail Web Interface - Quick Location of a Button
Bill,
Was using Chrome. However, it's not the voicing that's the issue, it's the finding. If I tab my way around, or use repeated presses of the "B" quick navigation command, when one lands on the Settings Menu button it is announced as such (though the exact title eludes me). But if you JAWS Search for what was announced JAWS tells you it's not found. That makes no sense to me. -- Brian - Windows 10 Home, 64-Bit, Version 1803, Build 17134 A great deal of intelligence can be invested in ignorance when the need for illusion is deep. ~ Saul Bellow, To Jerusalem and Back

Re: Gmail Web Interface - Quick Location of a Button
Thanks Bill. I'll give that a try.
I do not understand why a CTRL + F (a straight browser find) would be able to locate that button when a JAWS Find (INS + CTRL + F) does not. I generally encourage my clients to go with a JAWS Find first as it's been my general experience that it will find objects with label text (whether visible or not) as well as straight webpage text. I'm not doubting what you say, but I could swear we did a JAWS Find on just the word "Settings" this afternoon and kept getting the "not found" dialog. Why? That makes no sense if a straight browser find can find something. -- Brian - Windows 10 Home, 64-Bit, Version 1803, Build 17134 A great deal of intelligence can be invested in ignorance when the need for illusion is deep. ~ Saul Bellow, To Jerusalem and Back

JAWS 2018 - Does it have the equivalent of NVDA's "Focus Highlight" Add-On?
As the very odd man out being sighted but using screen readers for experimenting and figuring out issues, it is often difficult to know where they have focus at the moment, particularly if the object that focus is not visible on the screen and there is no attempt to scroll the screen to follow where the virtual cursor has focus.
NVDA has an add-on that causes various colors and line styles to outline the object that has screen reader focus and keeps the virtual cursor and its corresponding on-screen focused object in sync. This can be very, very helpful for me. It was my understanding that JAWS 2018 and later were to have either a built in feature or scripting that would produce the same result, or something very similar to it. I have yet to find that if it does exist. This seems like as good a place to ask as any before resorting to VFO technical support. -- Brian - Windows 10 Home, 64-Bit, Version 1803, Build 17134 A great deal of intelligence can be invested in ignorance when the need for illusion is deep. ~ Saul Bellow, To Jerusalem and Back

Standard in this case. Perhaps I should revert to the Basic HTML view where it had been a link at the top of the page. I try to avoid that particular approach when possible and using standard can be done with reasonable efficiency, but if it can't, it can't.
