Did the customer “dis-service” dept also torture you by subjecting you to “canned Muzak, and countless repetitions of “how important your call is to them”(apparently, not enough for them to hire more  staff!
 
Guess that I’m getting old, but it seems that your(my, and many other’s)  experience is happening more frequently than previously.
 
Sorry, but don’t know answer to your 2019 “techno-question-just wanted to comiserate.

As the very odd man out being sighted but using screen readers for experimenting and figuring out issues, it is often difficult to know where they have focus at the moment, particularly if the object that focus is not visible on the screen and there is no attempt to scroll the screen to follow where the virtual cursor has focus.

NVDA has an add-on that causes various colors and line styles to outline the object that has screen reader focus and keeps the virtual cursor and its corresponding on-screen focused object in sync.

This can be very, very helpful for me.  It was my understanding that JAWS 2018 and later were to have either a built in feature or scripting that would produce the same result, or something very similar to it.  I have yet to find that if it does exist.

This seems like as good a place to ask as any before resorting to VFO technical support.

Nope. Both the 2018 JFW and beta 2019 (settings were not merged) are set to screen echo - highlighted.

One thought is maybe your screen echo has changed.  While in Outlook press, Jaws key + S, to tobble through settings.  They are Highlighted, All, & None.  It sounds like it might be set on, All, so switch it to, Highlighted, and see if that helps.

Anyway, I’m on Jaws 2018 and recently started to play with the JFW 2019 beta. This exact same behavior is occurring in the beta so I know at this point it’s not just my JFW 2018 version. I’m sure it has to do with a setting I’m not aware of or have perhaps by accident enabled.

I agree with you that it makes no sense that JAWS find won’t find it. However, if you can sign into gmail with Internet explorer and see if JAWS find works, then it is a problem with Chrome finding text on a page.

I did not. The beta is a fresh and clean install with no imports.
Screen echo is set to highlighted as it's always been.

Where were you searching from? Was it in the main window where the inbox comes up? If so, the dropdown menu voiced clearly in Internet Explorer. I don’t know what it would say in Chrome, or another browser.

Hi again, Brian. There is no shortcut for the Settings dropdown menu. The quickest way to get to the Settings Dropdown Menu is:

 

1. Press CONTROL plus F.

2. Type Settings and press ENTER.

3. Focus will move to the Settings Dropdown Menu.

4. Press Space to expand the dropdown menu.

Yes, getting the same issue from time to time with JAWS 2018.  Have not yet seen it in the 2019 beta release.  Agree, very annoying.

Standard in this case.   Perhaps I should revert to the Basic HTML view where it had been a link at the top of the page.  I try to avoid that particular approach when possible and using standard can be done with reasonable efficiency, but if it can't, it can't.

For this user, Jaws frequently seems to lose focus and stops voicing any detailed information. Hi Dan Yeswhen I call FS support lady did able to helps me on Tuesday afternoon when I told her that I download and installed jaws 2018 on Monday afternoon when I spoke with fs man and Microsoft disability support with the man they tell me jaws 18 is done when they listen to my laptop with jaws 18 window 10 on IE and heard the history preview history close then arrow right to today close then arrow right today open then arrow up it say yesterday close .

So when I explains everything to fs lady support she told me that strange jaws 18 and jaws 2018 not read up so she did jaws tandem she find the problem so she fix it for me. Here what she told me below

Your history settings were set to not save your history so none of the history from yesterday was saved.  I set it to save your history from now on.  If you go in right now, it will still not show yesterday, but if you go in there tomorrow, you will see yesterday again because it started saving again since I changed it.

Hi,

  Did you get an answer to this?  You need to be sure that your history settings is not set to “Clear history each time IE is closed.”  This may be your problem as history will clear after each closure and not retain information.  There are other settings to tell IE how often to clear history.

Can anyone tell me why jaws not saying nothing when I arrow up from today open to say yesterday close on desktop computer?What do I need to do get it fix?

Hi,

  Did you get an answer to this?  You need to be sure that your history settings is not set to “Clear history each time IE is closed.”  This may be your problem as history will clear after each closure and not retain information.  There are other settings to tell IE how often to clear history.

Hello All  I’m using jaws 18 with window 10 desktop computer. When I opened IE then I pressctrl + H for history it’s say history close then it’s say today close then I right arrow it’s say today open when I arrow up jaws not say anything but when I down arrow from today open  it’s say www.gethersfuneralhome.com then I arrow up on today open then up arrow jaws not saying yesterday close !! So I turns on laptop computer yesterday I have jaws 18 with window 10 then I opened IE then press ctrl + H it’s say history close then it’s say today close then I right arrow it’s say today open then I arrowup it’s say yesterday close !! Can anyone tell me why jaws not saying nothing when I arrow up from today open to say yesterday close on desktop computer?What do I need to do get it fix?
