Subject: JAWS keeps speaking the progress of streams

Hello everyone:

On my HP laptop, I am using Windows 7 and Jaws 14. When I am listening to
streamed audio from any of the radio stations on the BBc web site, JAWS
keeps announcing the elapsed time of any streamd audio I am listening too.
Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can stop JAWS from doing this.

Thanks in anticipation.

need help with Convenient OCR

Shirley Tracy

Can someone please point me to detailed steps for using convenient OCR? Can I use it if I don’t have a camera?

Someone sent me some information I thought they were going to scan in and email to me. Instead, they took a picture of it and emailed that. I need the information. I never thought I would need to use the Convenient OCR in JAWS, so I never studied about it. And remember I have made it very clear that I’m not tech savvy. Having said that, I feel confident that I could retrieve the information the person sent to me if I could use something like the OCR that I read about in the JAWS help menu. I just don’t fully understand how to do it.

Thanks for any help.

This works for me in outlook 2016.
With the focus on the email you want to move,go to the Applications menus and either arrow down or use m to bring you to the option to move the email to another.

If you’re upset about updates happening in the computer restarting when you’re using it, you can reset your active hours. That is in the update in security section of Settings.

Human or not, sometimes it isn't worth to get all upset because your computer might reboot after an update by itself. Maybe if it did so while I was in the middle of a Skype call I would get upset, but it won't do that.

Hi. I am on the latest Jaws 2018 update and if I look at the Windows
update, it says one update ready to install, but no download or
restart button. I tried the touch cursor, but I get no different
result.

Anyone else seeing this one? very strange.

I am on build 579 of the 1709 version.

I’m wondering if anybody else is having this problem.

I’m running Firefox version 62, latest version of JFW, and Windows 10.

I’ll be arrowing down through a web page, and all of a sudden JAWS just stops reading. Sometimes it comes back after a few seconds, but not always.

I especially notice it when reading the Boston Globe in NFB Newsline on the web.

Also when I’m using Google Docs, I’m noticing an irritating lag when I hit up or down arrow in a document.

Any thoughts on how to remedy this?

JAWS and Brailliant 32

denise avant <denise.avant@...>

Hello all,

I have a Brailliant 32 Braille Display. I am having difficulty connecting it by USB with the latest version of JAWS 2018. It was working just fine until I had to disconnect and reconnect the Braille display about three days ago.

I tried reinstalling the Brailliant drivers, and going through JAWS to reconnect. I hear a sound as if the computer is connecting. But nothing happens. I have this issue whenever I update JAWS to the latest version. But this time, there was no update.

I have different experiences. Firstly, you must be in an admin account to get it to work correctly. Secondly, when you run it from a desktop, it may give you results. If not, run it as a job and go and look at the output in an html file: I do not remember exactly where it was. Either way, you can see the results of MBSA.

I would say, it’s the SMA is still good on your version of open book (open book 9), that you could get the free download from the software. However, they might send you the latest version of open book if that SMA is still good.

JAWS 2018 announces webpage URL for page you're leaving. Why?

Every time my latest client and I are transitioning from one webpage to another where he has entered a new URL in the address bar by hand we consistently have JAWS 2018 announcing the URL of the page we're on before it announces the one we're navigating to.

This behavior annoys and confuses him and does the same for me.  I cannot understand the rationale for doing this.

I am wondering if this is something that is either wrong with his JAWS 2018 installation, if anyone else gets this behavior, and if it can be configured through a setting I just don't know about.  I'd like JAWS to announce the URL of the page that's currently being transitioned to without ever hearing the URL of the one being left behind.

Debbie, To stop JAWS from speaking progress bars, hit Insert+V and keep hitting the Down Arrow until you hear General Options. Hit the Down Arrow again 3 times til you hear Progress bar spoken and hit the Space bar. You will hear "Progress bar silent" then hit Enter. Jaws will no longer speak any progress bars.

Highlighted.

The layered keystroke, JAWS KEY+S, followed by the letter S, in JAWS 14, is
a toggle to mute and unmute JAWS.

Thank you for your suggestions.

Hi Dave,

I have two ideas, but someone else may know others. First you can press the
JAWSKey plus the letter S and cycle through what JAWS will say. The choices
are all, none and highlighted. Mine has always defaulted to highlighted.
That will stop it saying the numbers as they advance.

Or you could use the layered keystroke JAWSKey then space and then S. This
has the choices of speech on demand and full speech. Remember with both of
these once you are done with the streaming, you will have to reset them.

Hope this helps!
