Hi Mario,

I've had a similar problem. JAWS install hangs and never completes the install, never going past the very first screen which states something like, "Jaws install."

I worked extensively with VFO tech support with no resolution. I was finally able to install JFW by doing the following:

1. download the latest version from freedomscientific.com
2. turn off JFW
3. start NVDA

The installation works perfectly using NVDA, probably other screen readers as well. I've had the same issue with JFW 18 and 2018.

Have you tried going to device manager and update your video card drivers.
Also, check the time and date of your computer. JAWS will not install if the
date is wrong; especially, the year.
Steps to update video drivers:
1. hit start button
2. type in Device manager and hit enter
3. tab once and arrow down through the list and find display adapters
4. right arrow and right click, application key, Shift F10 whichever methods
works for you, on each item .
5. arrow through that list and hit enter on update drivers.
6. hit spacebar on the first button, this Lets the computer search
automatically. HTH

Ok Not very longago I was unable to install Jaws I needed to remove most of the CC+ that was installed on my system, I am going home for the day!!!!
During the Jaws install I got to about the 3rd setup screen and it just disappeared, if I was you I call VFO.

are you logged on as a standard user or as the administrator?
i use the administrator when i install programs.
you have to do this with jaws because it may ask for permission when the setup starts. but it is installing several programs and they will not get permission to install when you are logged on as a standard user.
also you may have better luck installing jaws if you start the setup with no screen reader running.
when you do run the setup this way it will use its own copy of a jaws screen reader voice to complete the installation.

Your going to have to be very careful if you try this but I wouldn't be surprised if even if jaws is uninstalled there will be registry keys left over. In most cases that wouldn't matter but sometimes it could. Maybe you need to go in and remove any left over fs keys then try. Just be very careful though.

Also, check the time and date of your computer. JAWS will not install
if the date is wrong; especially, the year.
Steps to update video drivers:
1. hit start button
2. type in Device manager and hit enter 3. tab once and arrow down
through the list and find display adapters 4. right arrow and right
click, application key, Shift F10 whichever methods works for you, on
each item .
5. arrow through that list and hit enter on update drivers.

Yes my friend, even that I did ...
were deleted all the files from the old installation.

the registry was completely cleaned of the old files, but no luck ...

Did you try to redownload the Jaws setup file?
Just make shure you delete the old one first!

if the previous steps don't work, try the notes I tucked away to solve
this issue. they are specific for windows 10 users:'

have GoldWave closed when you do this just to be sure this works.
select and copy the scripts as directed in my previous reply.

tap the Windows key to bring up the search box,
arrow down a little ways into the list of apps and hit the letter j,
continue arrowing to Jaws 2018,
Hit the space bar.
Arrow down to utilities and hit enter.
Then arrow down to explore scripts.
You want the ENU folder, which is the English US assuming that is where
you are.
Once in that folder, you can check for the Goldwave script files.
If they are not there, just paste them into that folder and restart Jaws.
Now, all should be well.
start Goldwave and check if they are installed.

I don't know what else to do.

Have you tried going to device manager and update your video card drivers.
Also, check the time and date of your computer. JAWS will not install
if the date is wrong; especially, the year.
Steps to update video drivers:
1. hit start button
2. type in Device manager and hit enter 3. tab once and arrow down
through the list and find display adapters 4. right arrow and right
click, application key, Shift F10 whichever methods works for you, on
each item .
5. arrow through that list and hit enter on update drivers.
6. hit spacebar on the first button, this Lets the computer search
automatically. HTH

press the enter key on the zip file that contains the scripts,
select the files except for the ones that are named goldwave4 and copy
the selected files by pressing control+c,
leave the zip file open.

press the windows key and up arrow to All Programs sub menu and right
arrow to open it,
type j or down arrow to JAWS 2018 closed and right arrow to open it,
down arrow to Explore JAWS closed and right arrow to open it,
down arrow to and enter on Explore My Settings.

now paste (press control+v) the scripts that you have copied previously.
now close any windows that are open, if you wish.
start gold wave, press insert+q to confirm that the scripts are properly
installed.

others may have different ways of doing this, but this is one way.

My method using the file properties dialogue works just the same in Windows 7.

Yes. Under Control Panel, I believe the item is Default Programs. I don't have a Win7 machine to check at the moment, but there is definitely a control panel item for setting the Default Programs for specific file types.

I also believe that the "quick trick" that Sieghard mentioned also works under Windows 7, and it's much easier and faster.
