Re: Goldwave scripts

Mario

press the enter key on the zip file that contains the scripts,
select the files except for the ones that are named goldwave4 and copy
the selected files by pressing control+c,
leave the zip file open.

press the windows key and up arrow to All Programs sub menu and right
arrow to open it,
type j or down arrow to JAWS 2018 closed and right arrow to open it,
down arrow to Explore JAWS closed and right arrow to open it,
down arrow to and enter on Explore My Settings.

now paste (press control+v) the scripts that you have copied previously.
now close any windows that are open, if you wish.
start gold wave, press insert+q to confirm that the scripts are properly
installed.

others may have different ways of doing this, but this is one way.
good luck.

Yes. Under Control Panel, I believe the item is Default Programs. I don't have a Win7 machine to check at the moment, but there is definitely a control panel item for setting the Default Programs for specific file types.

I also believe that the "quick trick" that Sieghard mentioned also works under Windows 7, and it's much easier and faster.

Mario,

It does make a difference. I have never used auto line view, or if I have I've forgotten precisely how it works. One line view presents you with what most people are used to: date-time stamp, sender, subject, and a couple more fields. Two line will give you the same plus whatever can be displayed of the first line of the e-mail message; it's sort of a "micro preview."

It certainly won't hurt to try each just to see what you get when that view is in use. You can always switch back to whichever one you prefer.

Brian, curiously, what is the difference between the auto line view, one

does this setting change how the messages are displayed and does it make
a difference for screen reader users?

Mario,

Under Windows Live Mail 2012, you do not want to use the Compact View as
it makes the folder tree "odd," to put it mildly.

I recommend using the One-Line View for the Message View and you can
have the reading pane either off entirely or at the bottom, as you'll
generally be hitting Enter to open an individual message in its own window.

I can't answer the left click bit, as I've not seen that particular quirk.

Microsoft has consistently used the terminology "conversation view" for
what a lot of the rest of the world calls "threaded view.  So, when
you're in the View Ribbon, under Conversations turn it on if you want
threaded view, or off if you want individual messages, unthreaded.

Jessica,

Not sure if you have gotten a reply on this.

In terms of reminders, you can arrow through the list and either tab to a snooze or dismiss button. I also thing Alt D is the shortcut to dismiss a reminder.  I also sometimes just hit escape to remove the reminder window temporarily.

For threading, Outlook by default arranges messages in groups.  I think you need to turn that off first.  Go to the View ribbon and to the Arrange By button.  Alt arrow down to open the list and arrow down to Show in Groups and hit enter to uncheck that option.  Once you have done that. Go back to the View ribbon and to the Show in conversations button, and press enter on that.  You should now be in threads.

Have you called Jaws support? I think this happened once to me some years ago, but I can't remember what I did. If you don't want to call Jaws support here is what I would do:
While Jaws 18 is up and running, go to the FS website and download Jaws 2018 for your system, 64 bit or 32 bit.
Save the file to the desktop
Now uninstall Jaws 18 including shared components, but leave the user settings
After the system reboots, make sure you are on the desktop with Windows Key+M and press "J", you may want to start Narrator to do this until the Jaws installer starts speaking, once it does press Control+Windows Key+Enter to exit Narrator again.
See if Jaws 2018 will install, just in case you might want to make sure you also download a Jaws 18 installer file and have it handy.
If Jaws 2018 installs I personally would not bother putting Jaws 18 back, I don't see any advantage in using it over Jaws 2018 with Windows 10. In 2 months or less Jaws 2019 will come out, a public beta will probably come in the next couple of weeks if how things were in the last few years are an indication.
