Yes, it works.

“System Exit” is the event associated with shutdown.

“Windows logoff” is associated with signing off to log on as a different user.

Hi Bill,

I downloaded the  file containing the scripts you mentioned and unzipped it. The unzip procedure creates three folders each containing 2 files.

What is the difference between “System Exit” and Windows logoff”?

Have you tried this technique and did it work?

Thanks

Hi. I tried to send this message to the JAWS list before, but it hasn't shown up in the last 27 minutes, so I am sending it again, in hopes that it will

get through this time.

In case someone cannot find this page on Ehow, I am including the link below that will download the zip file containing the registry edit scripts that

will return the logon, logoff and system exit events back to the Sound settings without having to manually edit the registry.

Re: searching chapters in a book using Jaws

Many years ago when I got my BS degree in business management systems, there was only one time the students could use notes for a quiz. I had all my notes in a MS word file. I took the quiz a day before the class. I worked with student support services for them to read me the questions. I would then do searches in the file that contained my notes. It was understood that I would need a little more time because I’m blind. Did you ask for the additional time? As far as I know there is no other way to search than pressing control F. Remember to always ask for what you want.

Re: JAWS 17 & Dropbox

Dropbox is nothing more than another directory, or folder, on your computer. Just activate the Desktop shortcut, and you're in. There's absolutely nothing more to it than that.

Now, if you Want to do things like share directories, that's done through the Website.

Re: all Skypes work together??

David Moore

Hi Morey!

In Skype 8.25, you can easily get to leaving voice messages. It is not an option in the Skype app, or so I don’t think so.

I like Skype 8.25, because you can use all web navigation key strokes, like B for button, because the program is laid out as a web page, but you are not in any browser.

So, in Skype 8.25, when I press E for edit, it goes right to the place where I enter a message for somebody. If you press B from the top a few times, you are right at your list of contacts.

Also, Alt+1 and Alt+2, puts you on your contacts and messages.

8.25, works more like Skype 7 than the Win10 Skype app.

It is laid out like a web page, but you do not have to arrow through everything, because you can use B for button, C for combo box, E for edit, and so on to jump right to where you need to go.

This is true if the virtual PC cursor is on in JAWS, and if Brows mode is on for NVDA.

Now, if you turn off the virtual PC cursor in JAWS, you have to tab to everything like in the Win10 app from the store.

It is better to leave the virtual PC cursor on, so you can do the single navigational key commands.

That is not all.

You can set as many place markers as you want in the 8.25 version of Skype, because you have the web layout.

For example, you can set a place marker at certain contacts you want to jump to, settings, and where ever you want to jump by pressing K for placemarker.

That is a huge advantage over the Skype 7.

All of you will like 8.25, once you use it for a while,

I just know you will, because of being able to set place markers alone. Remember, if you do not even want to install Skype on your computer, just go to:

Web.skype.com

And you can use the same layout as Skype 8.25, right in your browser and not have anything installed on your computer!

You have a lot of choices here, now, for using Skype!

I really enjoyed using 8.25, with JAWS 2018, because it was so much more snappy for me than Skype 7.

I know nothing about the iPhone Skype app.

I just use a flip phone as well, and will probably never have a smart phone LOL!

I hope I have answered some questions for you.

You can do anything in Skype 8.25 that you can do in Skype 7.

Once you start pressing B for button, and set place markers like on a web site,

You will like Skype 8.25 better than Skype 7.

Have a great one, guys!

Hi David. I very much appreciate  the way you answer questions, all your

tutorials, and all the work you put in doing all of it.

Now for another Skype for Dummies regarding UWP and 8.2. I only have a

desktop computer using Windows 1803, Jaws 2018 and probably will never

use a IPhone.

The closest I come to it is a flip phone for emergencies.

So in my case, what  is the real difference between the 2 systems,

meaning UWP and 8.2, remembering this is for dummies. I am currently

using 7.4, which understood is going away, and have no issues at all.

So, what can I expect  other than the keystroke differences, , meaning

what can I do in UWP and not in 8.2, example, any more voice mails???

If you could throw inn a couple examples, it sure would clarify things

for me, and I hope others.

Thanks very much.

Windows Laptop Sleep Problem Solved

Tom Behler

               Hello, everyone.

First of all, I want to sincerely thank those on the list who responded to my sleep function issue with my Windows 7 laptop.  I have saved the various suggestions I received for future reference.

It is mysterious to me how these problems emerge.

Equally mysterious is the fact that within the past day or so, the problem appears to have corrected itself, with no further action on my part.

The whole issue continues to baffle me, but I’ll take the positive end result and move on.

Again, thanks to everyone for the assistance.

Re: Dropbox With JAWS 17

Works just fine. Once you get signed in, you'll never need to reopen the program. Dropbox appears as a folder on the Desktop. You only need the program to sign in, change what folders get synced to that particular machine, where the folder is store--i.e., what disk drive, and one or two other things. Otherwise, it's just another Windows/File Explorer folder.

Re: rotating the screen?

Ann,

My laptop won't rotate the screen with CTRL+ALT+Up Arrow on an HP that has an AMD processor and graphics.  My guess is you'll get the result you want most easily by using the Settings, System, Display Pane, Orientation Dropdown box.

Re: rotating the screen?

in jaws, you need to press insert plus numrow 3 so the next keystroke is past through to the operating system.
I don't believe anythng is mentioned when the keystroke is preformed. it simply rotates the screen. ctrl+alt+uparrow will set the screen upright where down arrow will will turn it upside down.
