I used MRT and it came back saying there were no threats found. I turned off my laptop and turned it back on. The ABSunset virus still exists. Now what?

Have you tried removing this virus using the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool (MRT)? To run MRT, type “MRT” into the Run dialog (Windows key-R).

I looked on the internet to see how to remove it. Windows defender couldn’t do anything with it. The information on the web says to download SpyHunter. Does anyone know of SpyHunter? Should windows defender be able to handle this virus?

Hi, Kevin. This is a tricky infection to eradicate. My suggestion is to call the Microsoft Answer desk.
800-936-5900
They have a lot of tools, and can look on their knowledge base to see the best way to remove the ABSunset virus. The problem you’re going to have is that you may need to start your computer in safe mode. During this time in safe mode, the Microsoft tech will not be able to connect with, and control your computer.

Re: jfw 2018 and functions keys
Jed,
The exact model number would help. My guess is that your machine, like most laptops these days, defines the function key row as "smart keys" or similar that makes them do things like increase/decrease screen brightness, volume, or mute, etc. Typically in this case if you hold the Fn key while hitting the corresponding function key it should behave like it used to in the past. Trying Fn+actual function key for the JAWS commands, and seeing if that works, is an easy way to confirm whether or not "smart keys" is active. This feature can be turned off. Some brands require this to be done in UEFI/BIOS before Windows boots while others have built-in utilities to do it. I think that Dell is one of the latter. -- Brian - Windows 10 Home, 64-Bit, Version 1803, Build 17134 The real art of conversation is not only to say the right thing in the right place but to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment. ~ Dorothy Nevill

Hi there! Your function keys are probably set to media keys by default. Depending on the type of Dell you have, there are ways to turn the function keys back on. What type of Dell do you have?

Re: Amazon.com "Cart" page
Hope,
Thanks for confirming that the navigation by graphic in the cart is an effective trick. It's always good to hear that it works for at least two people, though I certainly didn't doubt the person who posted it, either. I can understand entirely wanting to thoroughly review a cart before checkout. As to links in e-mails, like all other things, I am far from doctrinaire with regard to that. If you know the source of the message, they're a person or entity you trust, and there's noting in the message otherwise that sets off your alarm bells then click/activate away. That's why the facility is there: convenience. One need only be reasonably cautious, not paranoid. In fact, I see an excess of caution through outright paranoia cause far more problems in life than being reasonably cautious to even just the slightest bit cavalier ever does. -- Brian - Windows 10 Home, 64-Bit, Version 1803, Build 17134 The real art of conversation is not only to say the right thing in the right place but to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment. ~ Dorothy Nevill

I have gotten use to n longer hearing the shutdown sound. Its only purpose was to let us know that Windows had closed. It had noting to do with whether or not the pc itself had finished shutting down.
