Amazon.com "Cart" page

Hello All,

During a session today I encountered something I've never encountered before with JAWS:  An inaccessible link that's clearly visible to me.   In addition I could not find a workaround that allowed for what I consider a reasonable way to hear the list of what's in your cart.

I would have expected that the item links that show up in the cart would have been implemented as headings, much like the item links are all headings at level 2 on the search results page.  They don't show up in the headings list, though.  The closest I can get to the items list is to go to the Shopping Cart heading and start reading from there.  For each item in the cart there exists a "Delete" link which allows you to do exactly what it says.  Almost anyone has occasional need or desire to nuke an item or items from their cart, but I can find absolutely no way to access these Delete links for each item.  They do not show up even in the list of links for the page.  In playing with this same page with NVDA the results are the same when I look at either a list of the headings or links.  What's interesting though is if I change the element being looked at to "Form Fields" these delete links show up in that list.  If these things are form fields then they're the best disguised form fields I've ever seen.  They are visually presented as links and I'd expect they'd be in a list of links, not form fields.  They also show up in NVDA's list of Buttons, and they certainly are not presented as buttons.  I've done the NVDA experimentation this evening, at my leisure, so I had no idea about this when I first encountered it.  It still seems utterly bizarre.

What, if anything, am I doing wrong here?

It's also interesting to see how Amazon went overboard with alternate text for item images.  When you get JAWS to begin reading the cart in its long and meandering way the full item name is always presented twice since the alternate text for the item image is a word for word copy of the click-through text used for the item link itself.  It makes the whole process of even trying to review one's cart incredibly tedious.  I notice that when JAWS is being used there is a link that shows up for Disability Support (or a very similar phrase) and I can't seem to find that using NVDA, but I could also be on a different version of the cart page than I was looking at earlier today.

If anyone knows "the collection of slick tricks" for efficiently interacting with the Amazon Cart page I'd love to hear them.

Kevin,
I read recently that Windows Defender and WIN10 only lookee for a portion of what you would like scanned/removed. The suggestion was to use Windows Security Essentials.
I'm sorry I don't remember the details or where I read it.
Good luck.

Using Win 1803 and latest Jaws 2018 I run into a strange situation when trying to edit cell contents in excel within MS Office 2016

Whether the cell contains text or a formula, some cells can be edited by dressing F2 and then arrowing back and forth making necessary corrections. However, other cells doing the same only reads the entire cell contents when arrowing either way. No pattern or consistency to this behavior. Have others experienced this too? Any work arounds?

Re: Trouble activating links in firefox

Cristóbal

Quite noticeable with JFW 2018 and Firefox. I'll either get thrown to the taskbar (almost always with the "see more stories" link in FB mobile) or I have to tab first to make sure focus is on the right link first. Another issue I have is with The Old Reader. If I'm in a particular feed and have clicked on an entry/header to expand it and then wish to click on another separate heading/entry, Jaws just wont' do it. No matter what I try. VFO has told me that they can't do anything about this since it's a paid site and to provide an example where they can access it as well...
Links have been funky in general ever since JFW 2018 though. Not just this most recent update for me at least. The Old reader thing only started showing up with Firefox 60.x.

Hi All,

I'm wondering if anyone else has had trouble activating links in the most recent release of firefox. I'm using it with version 2018 of jaws. When it first happened I thought it was just a poorly designed web site. But when it continued on sites I know are usually fine I began to wonder about the cause. Is it jaws? Is it firefox? Is it the two together?

Has anyone else seen this behavior?

Thanks,
Kim

I am missing most of the messages to this thread, but I thought I would give my input anyway.
If I select a cell, then press F2, I can use my left and right arrow keys to edit within the cell. The feature was broken for a while, but the latest version of jaws it’s me move within the cell.

satisfactory solution. I am sure Excel did not used to behave like this.

has anyone found suitable work arounds when it comes to using monsters cite as it relates to job search results?

David Ingram

Hi list members, I'd like to know if anyone knows a work around when it comes to using monster is it relates to job search results? The reason why I ask this question is because when I type in music producer, or studio music producer, I seem to get different job search results then those I would expect. I've contacted monster support on this issue but I've heard nothing in response to this question. Has anyone else had a semular problem when using monster and performing job searches. Thank you for any information that you might have concerning my question.

Bob,

Are you able to get into the "task switching loop" by intention or, at the very least, reasonably consistently?

It is going to be close to impossible for anyone to help you out of this unless they can see how it is that you're getting into it and what's actually occurring at the time. I'm still unclear as to what, exactly, is occurring.
