Hi Brian,

I’m coming late to this, but press your applications key, then W and the link will open in a new window. Press your applications key and T and it will open in a new tab.

All the best

Can this be done?

I tried CTRL plus hitting enter to activate the link, but it always replaces the contents of the tab that had focus when you invoked the "show list of links" dialog with INS+F7.

I would like to be able to imitate what can be done with CTRL+Left Click in a tabbed browser, which forces the link clicked upon to open in a new tab, but I'll be darned if I can figure out a way when the link selection is occurring via the list of links dialog.

Even if it can be stated, definitively, that this cannot be done then I can come up with a workaround. When you're trying to read a newspaper it's a lot easier to open the articles of potential interest in their own tabs so that one can go back to "the front page" or "the main page of the sports section" or similar than it is to keep having to reload them and start all over again.

Hi, Joseph. Since Toast Notification will be changing from Windows Key plus V to Windows key plus Shift plus V, what will be used to cycle through notifications in reverse order. This is currently Windows key plus Shift plus V. I tried to find out why the change is being made, but couldn’t find anything on it. Could you explain why the change is being made?

Hi John,

Which version of search are you using? If you are using control + E then F6 doesn’t work. I haven’t used this command, but with my playing with it F6 doesn’t get you to the search results—tab does. If you are using control + shift + F then once you hear “find now” from JAWS, the F6 should work. After pressing F6 if it is blank, then you don’t have any results. If you haven’t used it before, the control + shift + F is an advanced search and it has many options, so you need to make sure you have the correct information in the right places.

Hope that helps!

I think the issue is the connection to the service. If you found an old executable of the program, it probably wouldn't have anything it could connect to. 2. Does it work with any versions of JAWS? I have all versions of JAWS from 3.7 all the way up to JAWS 15.

If you don't use Cortana, Microsoft's voice-activated personal assistant, you're missing out on some handy, hands-free functionality -- especially now that she's fully integrated into Windows 10, and Windows 10 is everywhere .

Like Apple's Siri and Google's Google Now, Cortana is an intelligent personal assistant who can help you with everything from launching applications to scheduling appointments. She can even adjust a handful of device settings, such as toggling your Wi-Fi on and off. Microsoft hasn't published a full list of Cortana commands, so we pulled together this unofficial list of all the things you can ask or say to Cortana on Windows 10 devices.

Hey, Cortana

There are a few ways to get Cortana's attention.

. Click or tap thhe Cortana button on the taskbar. If you do not see Cortana on your taskbar, right-click the taskbar and go to Cortana > Show Cortana icon . . If you have 'Hey, Corttana' enabled, simply say "Hey, Cortana," followed by your question.

. If you're using a Windows Phone,, you can press and hold the search button to activate Cortana.

Basics

. Ask abouut the weather. Ex.: "What's the weather like?" or "What will the weather be like in two days?" or "Is it going to rain tomorrow?"

. Launch a program or open a website. Ex.: "Launnch Mozilla Firefox" or "Open <https://nam05.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2FCNET.com&data=02%7C01%7C%7C2f8a4c72eb874306a2b408d5e4d8cf46%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C636666542189079338&sdata=p5hhoTqGtpMtv2Q5r9RuzRP2qr%2FYCqiqBA22W50laso%3D&reserved=0>CNET.com."

. Make a phonne call. Ex.: "Call Sarah," or "Call John on speakerphone."

. Hear Cortana read the top news headlines. Ex.: "Show me top headlines."

. Take a note in OneNote. Ex..: "Take a note" or "Note it down."

The quickest way that I’ve found is to use Alt+F within Office to get to the backstage view, then move down to the Office Account tab with Down-Arrow, then use the tab key to move across to the updates control, where you can press a button to install updates.

It seems likely you might have some serious issues . try repairing jaws first . if that doesn’t work , call VFO they might be able to help

Say if I switch from the calendar tab to the inbox and I’m in the body of the message, Jaws will sometimes just speak the calendar stuff I was just at. The annoying part is when Jaws does this, the navigation keys won't work. I can arrow up or down or by paragraph or even type if I'm emailing or whatever and Jaws is stuck on this text. In order to get focus properly back, I either have to alt plus tab and then back or maybe a control plus sshift plus tab and back.
That or say if I'm in a calendar appointment and am in the notes section of the appointment, Jaws will again, speak the other part of the appointment window (appt time and or address) or some other text like the associated email account and again, I have to shift tab and then tab back to get proper focus to have Jaws read where I actually am or where I can review what I just typed and so on.
This can happen while I'm in the middle of doing something or if the screen is idle.
I've got the fully installed Office 2016 program on my systems so I don't know if that makes any sort of difference with the Office 365 apps.

Happens all the time in Outlook 2016. What's worse is that refreshing the page doesn't do anything and Jaws will not read what's currently on the page without you having to alt plus tab out of the window or maybe tab or shift tab depending on the window you're on.

I still have Jaws 18 and it also does this. You can fix it by hitting Jaws key plus escape whenever it happens.

transition being made while JAWS is in the midst of reading on one

I can never recall this occurring in older versions of JAWS though,

What gives, and is there a way to stop this from happening?

Hello,

I¡¯m not sure about your volume problem. JAWS uses the
computer¡¯s system volume but doesn¡¯t, to my knowledge
have a volume control itself. Again, use the PC¡¯s system volume
control to control the screen reading volume.

I¡¯m not sure about your misspelled word feature. You can use F7
in a Word document and/or Outlook e-mail to find and correct misspelled
words. You might want to get more help with this from the group.

JAWS should already be enabled to read other languages when
they¡¯re ¡°found¡± on webpages and/or other things. That
is, the screen reader, when it finds a language other than English, should
automatically switch to the new language and read it. I think this works
with the type of synthesizer that¡¯s installed¡ªyou can
have Eliquence (main synth for JAWS) use the Spanish voices or any others.
However, I¡¯m not sure how to enable automatic language
detection, though/seek help from the group or VFO (formerly Freedom
Scientific).

Sincerely,

Ashleigh S. Piccinino

Hi all,
I recently installed JAWS 2018 and have the following queries..
1. Is there some internal volume in JAWS as my Jaws outputs a very low
volume even when the speaker of the laptop is at 80%
. The speaker has no issue as songs are being played at a much lower
volume.
2. The Indian screen reader viz. Non visual display access indicates
when a word is wrongly spelt. How can I enable a similar feature in
Jaws?
3. How can I make Jaws read other languages?
Eagerly await suggestions.
Thanking you
Best

Hi, Annabelle. I think AIM has been discontinued since about 2016.

Subject: Does AIM Work with JAWS?

Hi, it's Annabelle.

I used to have AIM on my computer, but unfortunately it was lost when my laptop's motherboard went out. This was almost 9 years ago when I had an old IBM Thinkpad. Which brings me to my questions.

1. Is AIM still available to download or purchase? If so, where can I find it?

2. Does it work with any versions of JAWS? I have all versions of JAWS from 3.7 all the way up to JAWS 15.
