Sometimes when downloading files in Firefox, I receive a "Failed" notification in my downloads list. JAWS reads the name of the file, the word "Failed", the time of the download, and the word Retry. I have tried several ways to get to this retry button (applications key, Shift-F10, tab, even Control+R), but cannot figure out how to access this button/link/option. The JAWS cursor nor OCR even seem to read the downloads list, seemingly because the font is too small.

I know I can go back to a place and simply restart the download manually, but it would be convenient to know how to get to this option from within the downloads list.

Anyone ever succeeded with this in JAWS?

I tried to read PDF documents with Microsoft Edge and JAWS with no success.  Then I tried to set the default program (Acrobat Reader) via the control pannel also with no success.  The only defaults I get to change is for music, email and videos but no option to change the default PDF to Acrobat Reader DC.  There’s another screen reader wich works with Edge, but I do prefer to use JAWS. 

Any advice would be apreciated.

I had this problem for the longest time but a month or so ago it cleared up. I’m using Windows 1803 and latest of Jaws 2018. I figured they had fixed this. It was extremely annoying to say the least.

Thanks, John.  I thought I recall some issue out there.   I opened a different file today with no noticeable issues.  When I have a few minutes, I’ll run a few tests to see which files it crashes on and if there is a difference in file location, how I open them, and so on.  Another lister gave some an idea that I’ll also check on.

There seems to be a known issue with JAWS and Excel 2016.  The only work around that seems to help is using tab, shift tab, enter, and shift enter to move between cells.  Using the arrow buttons seems to cause Excel to slow then freeze.  I understand this has been reported to the JAWS people and Microsoft but no fix yet that I heard.

Running Excel 2016 with JAWS 2018 build 1803.  I've tried to open many files today Excel for work and been getting everything from really sluggish movement around the file to JAWS freezing when in Excel.   Next week I think my laptop will get reimaged to resolve an unrelated issue and I hope to get the latest release of JAWS installed, but just wanting to know of any known issue in Excel 2016.  This issue is really problematic with getting my work done.  These are all files that I successfully opened when in Office 2010 and running Window Eyes, but today is my first day opening them on my new system.

Hi listers:

A local radio station has asked me about doing some work on the board during local football games.  They say they use software from BSI.  One of the programs

I looked at was called “Simian”.  It does look somewhat accessible, especially if I just need to play a few commercials and such.

Anyone know if BSI products are usable?
