Windows 7 and Windows Explorer

Pele West <pele.westlists@...>

Hi Everyone

I am using Windows 7 professional and the latest version of JAWS 2018.

Sometimes when using Windows Explorer everything runs very slowly. It
can take up to 10 seconds to respond to a command. I can solve the
problem by unloading JAWS and reloading Window-Eyes. Does anyone know
what is going on here and, if so, is there anything I can do about it?

Also, I know I have asked this question before, but someone might know
the answer. When I first open a folder in windows Explorer it reads the
first file details and says "Left to Right Marker" between all the
fields. I have the File Name, Date and Time Last Modified and File type
showing. It does not say this for subsequent files. Is there any way of
stopping this annoyance?

You list may be grouped.

Try this:
1. Open the view ribbon (ALT-V)
2. Activate the “Group By” command (G)

Within the drop-down list, activate (None).

Hopefully, that restores the normal view.

Hi, David. I know of no way to have Internet Explorer Favorites in Edge. What I did, though, was to go into my user folder, and find the Favorites folder inside. Once you find this folder, you can make a shortcut to it on the desktop. Then, if you’re using Edge as your default browser, just open the favorites folder from the desktop, click one of the existing favorites, and it will open in whatever is your default browser.

Windows Explorer messed-up view

Gudrun Brunot

Hi Gang: I have some weird occurrence on my new daw in the Windows explorer view. No matter what I try to do under [view], I can’t get rid of these ridiculous expanded headings, such as [I n-p (9) row header] or [q n-z (7) row header]

Under each of these, there are first some folders, then some files. Yes, there are single .wav files under each after the folders.

Can someone please tell me (like I’m a two-year-old) what to do here?

Hello Robin,
1. No, you don't, just install them to your user folder.
2. After installing and testing that everything works, export your
JAWS settings. Thus you will be able to import them whenever you need
to upgrade JAWS.

Hi,

My IT department at work is getting the Cisco Jabber script for me. This will be my first script to add to JAWS. I have a couple quick questions to help me prepare:

Will I need admin rights to install this or other scripts? I did not with Window Eyes. Will scripts carry over when I upgrade JAWS or will I need to reinstall the script whenever I upgrade JAWS? I’m hoping to have the IT person who installs this let me put a copy of the file into a folder where I keep my JAWS install files for safe keeping.

Hello Tom:

If you have a folder or several folders containing audio files ripped to
.mp3 format, which, when played, play at varying sound levels, you can use
MP3 Gain to change the volume of all the .MP3 files to the same audio level.

I am using this program, curtacy of Steve Matzura, who suggested it to me.
Below, are two sites where you can download MP3 Gain:

and

Hi,
I also would like to know the answer to this question.

Is there such a program which, when run against a folder of music mp3
files, would set all file volumes to a similar level.

Currently I have a few usb sticks containing numerous music tracks by
different artists but each track seems to have a different volume level.
It
would be great to set all tracks to a similar volume level regardless of
which player was used.

Thanks

Hello Everyone:

When I rip audio CD's to flac lossless audio, for example, the volume can
vary considerably from track to track.

I appreciate that the original volume was set at the original recording
company.

Does anyone know of a program, which will allow me to set the audio in the
.flac files, to 0 DB or +1 DB across all tracks and which is accessible
using JAWS?

Thanks in anticipation.

Thanks for any help.

Hi!

If you set JAWS to laptop lay out mode, you can use all of the desktop commands, and have three JAWS keys.

The caps lock, the numpad insert, and the insert extended somewhere else on your computer.

That is the default for the laptop layout mode. With the desktop layout mode, you have the numpad insert and the extended insert, but not the caps lock.

Have a great one!

All,

I like having Caps Lock be a JAWS key.  This is helpful for commands where my right hand hits the other key, such as to check the time.  In Window Eyes, enabling the Caps lock as an alternate allowed me to use either Caps Lock or to continue using the Insert key, which I did based on whichever hand was hitting the additional key.  It seems that when I enable Caps Lock as a JAWS key, that neither the regular or the extended insert keys  continue to function as a JAWS key.  Is there a way to enable both?

Re: sound card

This could be a driver issue, have you recently had any major Windows updates, e.g. the Windows 1804 update? A lot of people have reported problems with Jaws after that update with respect to sound. If you have a USB headset you can simply plug it in and see if you have the same issues.
