Hi All,

I noticed something today that I've never noticed before at the bottom of any email that I receive from a Groups.io email list / club.  If I go to the bottom of any email, arrow up a couple of times, and right below the unsubscribe link is my email address!

Would y'all please check any email you get from any Groups.io list you're a member for what I described above, and let me know if you're seeing your email address at the bottom of each email, or if you're seeing someone elses' email address?

All input on this matter will be greatly appreciated!  Thank you very very much!
Take Care.  Mike.  Go Dodgers!

This is pretty cool. For those of us who already have Jaws, probably not a “big deal”, but still. The more who are able to get access to a quality screen reader, the better.

And yes, I am aware of NVDA.

I’ve helped a VI low-income friend get a machine from this organization in the past. They do good work.

Once you get past the initial purchase of Jaws, if you price out the SMAs, it’s basically a $5.00 monthly subscription anyway.

If I am not mistaken, when you install Goldwave, you are allowed 1000 keystrokes, before you decide to purchase a license or not.

GoldWave will work with most Windows versions. What I brought up was about your
recording Windows sounds, and therefore things you hear over the speakers.
Download GoldWave and read about how to select recording what you hear in the
manual, and then decide if you want to pay for it. You can use all of its
functions before you pay.
Chances are, you can do what you want.
Best to try it and see.

Amanda, once you have the scripts saved to the hard drive, locate the
.zip file (archive), press enter to open it, select the files you will
need (I don't think you'll need any of the Goldwave4 files), and copy
the files by pressing control+c or cut by pressing control+x.
now for part 2:

* if you are using Windows 10, the scripts will need to go in the
appropriate location following these steps:

• press the Windows key and up arrow to all apps, checked.
• once JAWS announces suggested, type j to get to the JAWS folder of
which version you're using. for example JAWS 2018.
• press the space bar, down arrow to Utilities and press the enter key.
• down arrow to Explore My Settings and press the enter key.
• now press control+v to paste the scripts you had copied or cut
previously. you can press alt+f4 because your done.

* if you are using Windows 7, the scripts will need to go in the
appropriate location following these steps:

• press the Windows key, up arrow to all programs, right arrow once and
down arrow twice.
• type j until you get to the JAWS folder according to the version you
are using. for example JAWS 2018.
• right arrow and type e to get to the Explore settings.
• right arrow, down arrow twice to Explore My Settings and press enter.
• now press control+v to paste the scripts you had copied or cut
previously. you can press alt+f4 because your done.

* you can check if the scripts are loading by pressing insert+q after
starting Goldwave. if JAWS announces that the Goldwave settings are
loaded, that's great! mission accomplished.

Did you read anything in the manual? You have to select a different
recording source.
If I have time later, when I'm on my computer, I will get the steps for
you, but you could probably figure it out faster with the manual.
As for the scripts, I am not an expert with them by any means.
People have posted steps on here before.
I wish I could help more quickly.

Hi Brian,

I doubt you can use this JAWS feature. I would suspect that JAWS somehow pulls the list from the HTML content or the browser’s API, so it renders the links in a list to which you only have access once you press JAWS-Key+F7. FS would need to find a way of opening a link from here in a new tab through a script, but no idea if such things can be acomplished.

I will ask around though, but I’d think this would require a lot of scripting and fiddling around and would need to be done for each user separately.

Regards,
Nermin

Can you record system sound with Goldwave?

I'm looking for something that I can record something from iTunes or
Windows Media Player, and the recording will stop when the track ends.
Does this sound like something Goldwave can do?

Does Goldwave play nice with JAWS?

Thanks,
Amanda

Well, I tried to record a sample track with Goldwave, but it's
recording microphone sound, not system sound and I didn't see an
option to select just system sound in the preferences. Also, how do
you install JAWS scripts? I'm not sure if I did that correctly since
I've never done scripts before.

Thanks,
Amanda

I was about to mention Marco as well. He’s a really good resource on all things accessible with a focus on Firefox. If memory serves though, he’s mainly an NVDA user now. He was helping me out with some Jaws and Firefox issues I was having last week.

Gerry,

Thanks, but I am well aware of that setting and it's already set to open links in tabs instead of windows, but that only applies to links "passed in to" the browser, e.g., from the e-mail client or a desktop HTML shortcut, not links activated from webpages one is viewing.  On webpages one is viewing, provided one is not in the List of Links dialog, activating a link via Enter will replace the content of the current tab and via CTRL+Enter will open it in a separate tab.   All links directly activated from the List of Links dialog are exhibiting the former behavior and there appears to be no modifier key that can be used in conjunction with the "Activate this link" button to make it open in a new tab.

Try it out, you'll see the behavior for yourself.

Deborah,

Thank you very much for this information, but it is about Firefox reader mode, which isn't what I'm trying to activate.

I can get to anything that is part of the standard Firefox menu structure.  When you hit ALT in Firefox it brings the old-fashioned menu into visibility and the up arrow drops down the File menu, which is the one that has focus on it when ALT is pressed.

Oddly enough, my Tools menu does not show Reader View as a part of the native dropdown menu.  Of course, not that I did a quick web search, that's because Reader View is an Add-On and one that I don't have.

Hi Brian,

I’m rather new to the list and also new to Firefox 60. I was poking around trying to find something else and discovered that, if you press the alt key, and then an up arrow, you’re in I believe the Quick Access Toolbar (QAT). Press the left arrow a number of times until you get to the Toolbars submenu. Downarrowing will get you to an option to show/hide the Reader view. You’ll also see that the toggle to turn reader view on and off is F9.

Hope that’s what you were looking for...

Just thought I'd give this a bump in hopes the original got lost in the mix or that "new eyes" might have arrived in the last five days.

Does anyone know how to throw focus on to the Firefox menu button (not the classic menu, via ALT or ALT plus letter) and then navigate to the buttons to its left?

Without keyboard access to this area it's impossible to fire up the Read Aloud add-on, which means it's completely inaccessible to its primary target demographic.

I know I used to be able to do this and, at this point, have tried everything I can think of and resorted to multiple forums trying to find out if anyone knows how to do it.  So far, crickets. . .

a coworker just bought a tutorial for Goldwave that she really is impressed with. It includes scripts, sample files for practice, and lots of detailed instruction. She said it was around $70.
This is not an endorsement, just sharing information. I taught myself Goldwave by reading the manual and trial and error, with the occasional email to the developer.
But, some people love tutorials.

Not sure if this will help, but you can go into settings in your browser and under general there’s a place where you can indicate whether you want new links opened in separate windows or new tabs. If you set it to tabs, any new link you open should open in a new tab, not a new window.

No.  I don't know how much more clear I can be about wanting to be able to trigger this directly out of the JAWS "List of Links" dialog.

Of course there's a web browser running underneath in order to get said dialog, but I have yet to find a way to activate a link directly from the dialog that will force it to open in a separate tab of its own.
