hello;

if your unable to get into your outlook email,

most likely you'll need to turn on less secure settings,

go to:

https://www.google.com/settings/security/

Allow less secure apps: off

Some apps and devices use less secure sign-in technology, which could leave your account vulnerable. You can turn off access for these apps (which we recommend)

or choose to use them despite the risks.

so, if you turn on this security feature you'll be able to get into your outlook 2016 inbox.

Statistics are like a bikini.  What they reveal is suggestive, but what they conceal is vital.

Turn off two factor authentication.  It makes it a nightmare to use a very great many e-mail clients.

That, or make certain that Outlook 2016 is in the list of allowed apps.

1. Go to your Google Account page.

2. In the Sign-In & Security Section, activate the Apps with account access link.

3. Under the Apps with access to your account be sure that Outlook is listed.

4. Search for the Signing in to Google link and activate it.

5. Under the Password & Sign-in Method section, locate the 2-step Verification control and, if it's not already off, activate it.

I currently have 2-step Verification off and do not wish to turn it back on to complete the remaining steps, but I presume they will be quite straightforward if you follow the prompts presented.

moderated Firefox Quantum, Version 60, and getting to browser control buttons

Hello All,

It has been a while since I last tutored using JAWS and Firefox, definitely before the Quantum engine became involved.

I recently discovered the Read Aloud add-on, which I absolutely love for its ability to read webpages about as close to how a sighted reader would read them as anything I've encountered.  The same extension exists for the Chrome web browser, too.

That being said, I have either forgotten how to get to the controls for the browser like the Forward, Back, Reload, and Home buttons, as well as the buttons for add-ons that get placed to the right of the address & search edit box and to the left of the "hamburger stack" Firefox menu button.

Obviously, there has to be a way to throw focus on to those buttons, but I'm having a complete block as to how.  If, by chance, something has changed with the introduction of Quantum then please let me know that as well since it will make me feel a bit less crazy (but not by much).

No kidding.  I gave you a set of step-by-step instructions to turn it OFF.

I will admit, though, that I somehow omitted that you need to go to the bottom of the Sign in & Security section and throw the toggle for Allow less secure apps to on, for which I apologize.

Hi, Dave. The problem I have with JAWS key plus TAB is that it only gives
the percentage when this keystroke is done. It does not mimic JAWS/Windows
behavior of the past. In the past, JAWS would give progress percentages
every five seconds or so. Now, the only way to get this progress is to set
JAWS to ALL with INSERT plus S until it says ALL, then revert back to
HIGHLIGHTED with INSERT plus S until it says HIGHLIGHTED, once the copy
process is finished.

Hi Nino,

I haven’t looked at this in a while, but under Quick Settings, do a search on Progress Bars. If I remember correctly, you should be able to toggle the announcement of progress bars on or off. Turn them on, close Quick Settings and you should be good to go. However, a lot of times, if I’m copying a large number of files, I’ll just press insert+b periodically and that will give me the percentage that I want.

As for the security settings issue, Google has claimed that outlook is a “less secure app”, a claim which may or may not be true, I really can’t say. Whatever the case,  you can’t fix the problem on the Outlook side.  Log on to GMail using the web page and check out your inbox. You should see some messages indicating that there have been attempted logins to your account. In one of those messages, you’ll probably find a link to your GMmail security settings. Follow that link and look for something that says “allow access by less secure apps” or something to that effect. Turn that setting on and Outlook should work properly.

I hope that helps. If you have any further questions, write me off-list an I’ll get back to you.

Best regards,

Tom

Quick Assist is an analog to Windows Remote Assistance, TeamViewer, and any number of other products that allows you to request assistance from someone else and for them to take remote control of your computer to do so.

In the case of Quick assist, the person wanting assistance fires up Quick Assist (which you can find with a Cortana/Windows search) and chooses the Get Assistance option, at which point they will be presented with a dialog that requires them to enter a 6 digit code from the person who will be giving assistance.  On the assistance giver's end, they fire up Quick Assist and select the Give assistance option, at which point they will be presented with the 6 digit code that the person requesting assistance must enter, and which must be entered within 10 minutes of having been issued in order to establish the session.

Once the session is established the person offering assistance has a full screen view of the computer of the person who made the request and can control same via keyboard and mouse remotely.  I do not think that this will work for control via screen reader if both parties were screen reader users, hence the creation of options in the major screen readers which support remote/tandem connections to achieve the same effect.

Hi, Nino. From the nature of your question, I assume that you are attempting to get a percentage of files copied on Windows 10. Here’s what I have had to do to get this to work reliably in Windows 10.

1. Start the copy process.

2. Press JAWS key plus S until it says All.

3. Now you will here your percentages.

4. Once you reach 100 percent, Press JAWS key plus S again until it says Highlighted.

5. Do steps one through four, each time you are copying files.

I’m not Brian, but as far as checking which format you are using, hit alt+f then t for options.  \

Arrow down  once to mail, and tab twice and it should say, compose in this format.  If it says html, then you are using html for sending.

If it doesn’t, arrow up or down until you get to html and then hit enter or tab to OK and hit enter.

Hi Brian,

I do not recall ever making a choice for plain text.  Where can I confirm this in Outlook?

I can forward you a message off list if you provide me the email address for this.  Smile.  I did not keep the ones we recently had this experience with, but I will forward a similar one which I believe will show the situation.

Thanks.

Barbara

Barbara,

Are you, by any chance, having Outlook force your incoming e-mail messages to plain text?  Since a very great many e-mail messages are in HTML format when they get forced to plain text a lot of what was contained in them, particularly graphics, gets mangled.  You also lose information that's involved with those graphics.

I always strongly discourage my clients from forcing plain text because of the potential for lost content that's hard to describe, but is there if you leave the message "unmolested" from its format of composition.

If you're not forcing plain text if an example of one of these messages can be forwarded to me I might be able to figure out what's going on just by examining what comes in.

yes, it should be run from an elevated prompt with administrator rights
to get results.

This is best done from the command prompt or maybe even better an
elevated command prompt with administrator rights.

I went to windows R and entered the command sfc /scannow. Nothing
happens. It just took me back to your email.

Have you tried running a Microsoft Office repair? Also, check the
integrity of your Microsoft Windows installation: at an administrative
command prompt, run

Sfc /verifyonly

If this reports integrity errors, you’ll need to repair those, too. I
think sfc /scannow is the command to do that.

Lately, I, too, have been having problems with Outlook 2016.

Not every time, but when I do New Message, it locks up and I have to do
a reboot.  I’m using Windows 7 and JAWS 18.

Hello,

Lately Outlook 2016 has been locking up. Not all the time. I get the
message to close the app button. I press enter and nothing happens. I
use jaws cursor and try to do a left click and nothing happens. I then
try to shut the laptop down by going to the desk top and pressing alt
f4. Desk top doesn’t come up. I then press the windows key and the start
menu doesn’t show up. The only thing I could do then is a hard shut
down. I went back into outlook when the laptop came back up. I wanted to
do a repair which I thought was under help. Couldn’t find it. Does
anyone have any thoughts of what I should do? Where is repair?

Thanks,

Kevin

Hi.
I'm using spotify.
It has worked Before, but now it doesn't work.
I could find songs, select them and play them.
Now it is hard to find the song, hard to listen, and I can't move
between tracks.
It worked so well, now it doesn't work.
What can this be?
Some new spotify update?
