I don't think there is a single JAWS keystroke to announce just the
progress percentage, but in addition to Tom's reply, if you want to
occasionally check, pressing the insert+up arrow will/should repeat the
item being downloaded followed by it's progress.

Does jaws have a keystroke for announceing percentage of files copied
when files are being copied?

Question 2  Outlook 2016 where do you find the account settings for the
email accounts.

Google wanted me to turn more security and now a message pops up wanting
my username and my password for my google account.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi,

Are you using the Office 365?  If so, then uninstall and reinstall from your account on Office 365.  When using Office 365 the programs actually download to your system but best bet is to un install and then re install again.

If you just have Office 2016 a .exe file should be on hard drive.

How do you run a Microsoft office repair if the Microsoft office executable file is not physically located on ones computer? When I install office 2016, I had to sign in with my Microsoft account and it didn’t seem to install from the Microsoft website where as in the past I physically had an executable file located on my hard drive. At least this was the case with office 2010.

Hello,

Lately Outlook 2016 has been locking up. Not all the time. I get the message to close the app button. I press enter and nothing happens. I use jaws cursor and try to do a left click and nothing happens. I then try to shut the laptop down by going to the desk top and pressing alt f4. Desk top doesn’t come up. I then press the windows key and the start menu doesn’t show up. The only thing I could do then is a hard shut down. I went back into outlook when the laptop came back up. I wanted to do a repair which I thought was under help. Couldn’t find it. Does anyone have any thoughts of what I should do? Where is repair?

Thanks,

Turn off two factor authentication.  It makes it a nightmare to use a very great many e-mail clients.

That, or make certain that Outlook 2016 is in the list of allowed apps.

1. Go to your Google Account page.

2. In the Sign-In & Security Section, activate the Apps with account access link.

3. Under the Apps with access to your account be sure that Outlook is listed.

4. Search for the Signing in to Google link and activate it.

5. Under the Password & Sign-in Method section, locate the 2-step Verification control and, if it's not already off, activate it.

I currently have 2-step Verification off and do not wish to turn it back on to complete the remaining steps, but I presume they will be quite straightforward if you follow the prompts presented.

Hi Nino,
I haven’t looked at this in a while, but under Quick Settings, do a search on Progress Bars. If I remember correctly, you should be able to toggle the announcement of progress bars on or off. Turn them on, close Quick Settings and you should be good to go. However, a lot of times, if I’m copying a large number of files, I’ll just press insert+b periodically and that will give me the percentage that I want.
As for the security settings issue, Google has claimed that outlook is a “less secure app”, a claim which may or may not be true, I really can’t say. Whatever the case,  you can’t fix the problem on the Outlook side.  Log on to GMail using the web page and check out your inbox. You should see some messages indicating that there have been attempted logins to your account. In one of those messages, you’ll probably find a link to your GMmail security settings. Follow that link and look for something that says “allow access by less secure apps” or something to that effect. Turn that setting on and Outlook should work properly.
I hope that helps. If you have any further questions, write me off-list an I’ll get back to you.
Best regards,
Tom

That's odd.

I was recently doing remote tutoring work and JAWS was talking it's head off, if we did not temporarily silence it, in response to the actions I was triggering on the machine that was running it.

By the way, if you're running Windows 10 (and, possibly, WIndows 8.1, but I'm not certain on that) you might want to give the built-in Quick Assist a try to see if the result is any different.  I just gave it my first trial run the other day and it's impressive.

Hello, everyone.

I realize this might be off topic for the list, and I might have to call Microsoft Accessibility on the issue, but my Outlook 2016 in Office 365 has developed a serious issue.  Specifically, whenever I try to attach a file to an e-mail, Outlook crashes and stops responding.

This happens with both my University and my personal e-mail accounts.

This issue just started happening a few hours ago.

I would appreciate any suggestions with regard to settings I might check, etc.

I’m using Jaws 2018 with Windows 7 here.

I have both Narrator and NVDA here, and will do this if the problem persists.

Last night, I tried my usual process again and it worked, only to fail again when I tried it for a third time.

My next step here will be to download and install the latest build of Jaws 2018 to see if that helps address the issue.

If it doesn’t, then I’ll try NVDA and/or Narrator as noted above.

Hi, Tom. Can you try to attach a file to an email using Outlook and Narrator instead of using JAWS? If Outlook doesn’t crash under these circumstances, then it is something in Outlook 2016 which has recently been updated, and is now incompatible with JAWS 18. If Outlook still crashes while using Narrator, then it is an Office 365 Windows 7 problem. I hope you can do this to reduce the number of variables in the equasion.

Hi Dr. Tom.  Before you contact MS accessibility, I would delete your accounts from your Outlook 2016 settings, and then re-add them.  I suspect they will do that if you don’t, so that could help you in the process of troubleshooting.

Also, I have found that for whatever reason, when using certain hot keys, it will cause Outlook to crash.  I have switched from pressing Alt plus the letter S to send emails to control plus Enter, which is a native Outlook hotkey for sending email.  The latter works better for me.

Are you using Alt plus H followed by the letter A, and then the letter F, to get to the attachments option where you can choose to send?  There are other ways to send attachments.  You can copy and paste attachments to your email as well.  I would try different methods to see if they work better for you.  A good MS tech will ask you these questions.  Hope this helps!
