Why would you loose access to Word if you install Office 2016 via an Office 365 subscription and save your documents on your local hard drive? Subscriptions are the way things go and since I would otherwise pay for 1 TB of Dropbox storage I think the Office 365 subscription which includes 1 Tb of OneDrive storage is a heck of a deal. Also, $99 a year allows up to 5 family members (or good friends if you wish) to install Office and each person gets 1 Tb of storage as well as 60 Skype minutes for those who use them.

Hey, folks. I do an aweful lot of work in several different web browsers, and the only one I notice this issue with is Google Chrome. What happens is JAWS 18 will forget where I left off if I have to leave the window for any reason. I don't see this issue in Firefox/IE. Anyone else seeing this? Is there a painless way to resolve it? I can use place markers, so if there's no fix it's not a major dealbreaker. Just slightly annoying. Thanks for help, if there is any.

Yes. I would call the Microsoft Disability Services number.

800-936-5900

The reason I recommend this is that they have a microsoft tool which will remove the offending file. It is something like proxywow or something like that. They had to do the same with mine, and the repair would not proceed until this was done.

It should be in Office 2013 as Bill said, but are you talking about Backstage or Start Screen? The backstage comes into play during saving and opeing files and you can turn on "Do Not use Backstage" under Options > Save, once you are in the save tab you can try Alt+
S.
The start screen is that initial screen which comes uop when you first open Excel or Word where you have to press escape to get rid of it. This is in Options > General and in Office 2016 it's the last option before the OK button, so you can get to it quicker if you Shift Tab 3 times or you can try Alt+H.

I recommend a couple tweeks with Office 365:

In the File menu, Options, on the general tab, tab until you get to "Show the start screen when this application starts" and uncheck it.

Then, go down to the save options which is about 4 below the general tab and make sure that "Don't show the backstage when opening or saving files" is checked.

This is the same in Word and Excel. I almost never use PowerPoint, but I suspect those settings might be there as well.

There are lots of other things you can tweek but those are more personal preference things, but the Start Screen and Backstage settings will make your experience much smoother in my very biased opinion.

Yeah that'd be less than ideal. I'm in and out of all 3 browsers regularly
(IE, FF and Chrome) when at work. Thanks, though. Current Chrome,
semi-current IE and not quite there FF it is until my geek payday.

Depending on how much browsing you do you can always download the latest
update of Jaws 2018 and use it in demo mode with Firefox 60, it runs for 40
minutes at a time which is actually quite a bit of time.

when I boot my computer, or, when I use hotkey to start either jaws 18

The Freedom Scientific Accessibility  Display Driver is not properly

so, I did a repair,

doing the following;

find the executable, copy as path, add a space, and type in: \typerepair.

so the line looks like,

"C:\Users\owner\Downloads\J2018.1805.33.400-enu-x64.exe" \TypeRepair

the repair actually starts, then a few minutes in I receive, unable to

then I did a uninstall reinstall, still the same result.

Thanks for writing. I am afraid Status Cells are turned off, but thanks

They should apply to the entire Office Suite, as in the case where, if you change where Word stores document files, it also changes where Notepad text files are stored.

I recommend a couple tweeks with Office 365:

In the File menu, Options, on the general tab, tab until you get to
"Show the start screen when this application starts" and uncheck it.

Then, go down to the save options which is about 4 below the general tab
and make sure that "Don't show the backstage when opening or saving
files" is checked.

This is the same in Word and Excel. I almost never use PowerPoint, but
I suspect those settings might be there as well.

There are lots of other things you can tweek but those are more personal
preference things, but the Start Screen and Backstage settings will make
your experience much smoother in my very biased opinion.

moderated Re: JAWS 18 and the latest Office365?

It should be in Office 2013 as Bill said, but are you talking about Backstage or Start Screen? The backstage comes into play during saving and opeing files and you can turn on "Do Not use Backstage" under Options > Save, once you are in the save tab you can try Alt+
S.
The start screen is that initial screen which comes uop when you first open Excel or Word where you have to press escape to get rid of it. This is in Options > General and in Office 2016 it's the last option before the OK button, so you can get to it quicker if you Shift Tab 3 times or you can try Alt+H.

Regards,
Sieghard
