The Focus 40 Blu current model is referred as the 5th Generation and is a little skinnier than the 4th Generation. The 5th Generation is designed to dock to the El Braille.

The 4th Generation model has rocker switches at each end of the braille display and currently runs firmware 5.71.

the previous model of the Focus has the wizwheel at each end of the braille display.

All models are blutooth compatible. I'm not sure what the current firmware is on the model with the wizwhells.

All models work with JAWS.

If you have further questions please contact off list.

Thank you, Bill. As of right now, I don’t plan to unzip multiple files at one time. If I ever need to do so in future, I may call upon you. Again, thanks.

Hi, Shirley. Windows can unzip files natively as stated earlier, but if you are going to unzip more than one file at a time, it certainly wouldn’t hurt to install 7-zip as well. This way, you can select multiple zip files, and unzip them into their own folders all at once. If you should choose to do this, write back, and I’ll give you the steps for performing a multiple unzip with 7-zip.

I had been having windows 10 upgrade problems for a while on my ElBraille.  There wasn’t enough hard drive space to perform the upgrade.  Working with VFO and Elita Group, they finally figured out my problem.  I had a large outlook mailbox file.  They moved the file to D: drive and setup a file redirecting outlook to it.  I believe outlook still thinks it is located on the C: drive, even though it is not.

WinZip is what I use, and when I download several digital books from BARD/NLS”", I hit Control+A in File Explorer to select all the files, then Shift+F10 to bring up the Context menu.

There are a couple of WinZip items, but you can get to the correct item by hitting the letter Z

In the WinZip menu, whatever task you select, it will act on all the selected files.  In the digital books example above, I select the one that opens all the files into their own folder, using the file name as their folder name.

Hope this helps!

I am not entirely sure where you check if your units are set to inches or centimetres or some sort of pixel setting, I thought this would be in File > Options, but I could not find it.

Anyhow, here is what I get, this is Word 2016 with Jaws 2018.

I typed 3 or 4 lines and then tried Alt+Delete at the end of line 4:

3.19 inches from left, 1.93 inches from top, page 1, Current

Perhaps Word 2016 is not giving you the screen position in inches because Word is not set to TAB by number of inches. Have you checked to see if Word 2016 is set to measure tabs in number of inches?

This is located in Options|Advanced. I don’t know what the setting in Word 2016 is labelled, but in Word 2010 it is labelled as follows:

Show measurements in units of: Combo box

By default, Word 2010 is set to inches. Perhaps your copy of Word is set to show in CM (centimeters).

Der. Dumb me, this is of course what I meant to type instead of the insert plus alt plus W command which I just realized I typed…

So yes, that’s what I’ve been doing. In fact, what I’m noticing too is that if I get Jaws to come back via this method instead of loading NVDA and then going into the task manager to kill the lingering Jaws processes and getting the Jaws icon out of the system tray, when I alt plus tab back into the Chicken Nugget application window, Jaws will go quiet on me again. I can navigate the PC fine otherwise. Firefox, Outlook, other Office applications, Windows 10, etc. But as soon as I go into the CN window… crickets again. Only if I kill JFW completely with NVDA will I then be able to go back into the CN application window at all without losing Jaws. My Brailliant in this regard helps me since I can tell when the program is loading or has crashed. Sometimes, it seems like Jaws will start up and crash a couple of times before I get speech back just by going off of the display.

Also, I’m using eloquence with both Jaws and NVDA, but so far, NVDA’s held steady and not crapped out on me in CN. This really isn’t a solution though, since NVDA really is a back up get out of jams option for me. I’m a Jaws user through and through for Outlook, Word, Excel and so on and Braille display support while better with NVDA now a days, still isn’t completely quite there yet.

I already wrote VFO about this and of course, I wrote them with the incorrect insert plus alt plus W command. So when they eventually get back to me informing me that I’m using the wrong command, I’m going to have to rmember to make that correction in my reply.

Hello list,

So recently, I’ve been encountering an issue with the Chicken Nugget twitter client (portable version) and Jaws. Starting on Friday, as I’m down arrowing through the timeline of tweets, Jaws will just crash on me. Sometimes, I can bring Jaws back with the insert plus alt plus W command, but often, I have to resort to launching NVDA and killing the lingering Jaws processes in the task manager to then be able to bring Jaws back.

As mentioned above, this is with the portable Chicken Nugget installer that I’ve been already running for a while. My Jaws is current and while this random crashing hadn’t occurred with earlier versions of Jaws, this issue only started popping up last week. I’ve been running the latest JFW update shortly after it was put out in the middle of April.

I reached out to the CN dev (Accessible Apps) and he confirmed what I figured, that there was nothing on the app’s end that has changed to suddenly caused this.

Are any other Jaws users dealing with anything similar when in CN?

Thanks,

Cristobal

Tab around the different options, and when you hear Search, arrow down to get the listing of current downloads.
If the option is Open or Save, select Save.
If you are downloading from the BARD or NLS library, then only 3 downloads at a time are allowed.  You get a tone when the download is finished, so start another download.
Sometimes at night, it allows 4 at a time.

Hi,

Lately, I have had several instances where I get an email receipt of an purchase made for an audio book or PDF book.  The email contains a link that, when clicked, seems to open a the download manager tool in Internet Explorer.  I have now also failed in understanding how to navigate this so that I can download my file.  I am quite comfortable downloading a file directly from a webpage, but this acts different and I have maxed out my downloads in a couple instances.

Can some kind person explain the concept here?  Obviously clicking on the link triggers the website to think that I have downloaded it, as it’s counting my failed attempts, but it’s not automatically downloading into my downloads folder, so I must be missing steps.  All I know is that I can hit Control J from within IE to open a viewer of some sort, but I’m struggling from there.
