Re: Outlook 2016, keystrokes to display an email in the browser
Richard Turner
Bill, It appears Microsoft has removed this option from Outlook 2016. You may want to call them to confirm, but what little research I’ve done, it appears this was removed. The long way around might be to save the message as an html file and open that in a browser, but that seems like a lot of trouble for something that used to be readily available with a few keystrokes.

You’re very welcome, Shannon. I’m glad I could post something that would help you.
I’ll explain one situation where opening the email in the browser is very important. Sometimes I get an email which says it’s from my bank. The link doesn’t give the URL. Instead, it just says, click here. If you open the email in the browser, Press the applications key or Shift plus F10, and arrow down to “copy shortcut, it will put the actual link into the clipboard. Then you can paste that link into a text file in Notepad, and look at the link to see if the website where the link is directing you is really part of your bank’s website before you click on the link. Sometimes, knowing where the link already took you is too late to avoid a virus or malicious software.

Hi Bill, I did it again and paid attention this time. It is opening the .mtl file in excel. I went to the section of settings and looked for the default apps. The file type .mtl was set to excel for some reason. I changed it to internet explorer and it works as advertised! It is nicer to read some mail this way. I often hear the phrase If this message doesn’t work well to click here but I can never find where “Here” is. I thank you for the keystroke to make this happen. Sometimes I wish it could just be the default for html messages to open there. Shannon

Hello. In Outlook 2010, there is a combination of keystrokes that allow an email to be displayed in an Internet Browser from the Outlook 2016 email client. This key combination is: ALT plus H, A, V. This key combination does not work in Outlook 2016. can someone tell me what the steps are to view an email in the browser from the Outlook 2016 email client? I am not trying to view it by logging in on the web. I am trying to get Outlook 2016 itself to open the email in an html document using the web browser.

Re: Issue with JAWS and MS Word 2010
Bill White <billwhite92701@...>
Hi, Shannon. ALT plus W, 1, makes the entire document one column. This will accomplish what you want, but if you change the default setting to either draft view or Web layout, all new documents you create will remain as a one-page-per-screen document. Plus, if you make one change, such as inserting a blank line, then take it out, change the document to Web Layout, and resave the document, it will open in Web Layout view after that. This is a more permanent solution than ALT plus W, 1. Try it and let me know how it works out. Just remember to press F6 until it says Status Pane. That’s where the print and web layout check boxes are located.

When down or up arrowing in a Word document, the cursor skips the next page and moves to the other page, for example from page 1 to page 3. The only way how I can access the next page is to right or left arrow if I know that I am approaching the bottom of the page.

It won’t work that way because the sound it makes at the top is the same sound it makes at the bottom. It wouldn’t know if you were at the top or the bottom of the document to differentiate between the two.

I did try and couldn’t get it to work. At least I thought it didn’t work. What is odd is the headings are two rows up from where the actual value is read. So it says the number in the cell when I’m down in a lower cell in the same column. Is there a way to check if the title and range are setup?

Hello, I have a spread sheet setup with many columns. Then down 300 rows is a total row. For some reason when I’m on the total row which has a formula for all values in the column, Jaws is reading the value in the second row of the same column before it reads the actual value in the cell. Is there a setting in Jaws causing this or is something in Excel I need to change?

This became particularly problematic earlier today when I was at the Window 7 login screen after having left my computer for a while and my first entry of my password got an error. I figured caps lock was on, so press the button to remove caps lock, but my password was still incorrect. I have no idea if caps lock was on or off and ended up locking myself out after several failed attempts of pressing caps lock. Because I did not know how to figure out if caps lock was on and was afraid the tech support guy was going to have me typing a new password in, I did a hard shutdown hoping to clear it. As it turned out, I still had Window Eyes set to load at start up, so I was able to get unlocked and logged back in with the ability to check caps lock status. Why does JAWS not tell the Caps lock status and is there a way to get it to do this? Window Eyes does it fine. By extension, I’ve even surprised in say, MS Word, that JAWS does not correctly identify what is happening with commands such as Control B, Control S, etc. With Window Eyes, it says “Bold on” and “Bold off” or “saving document”. I really am trying to make the switch to JAWS, but things like this are making me anxious. Robin This communication may contain privileged and/or confidential information. Every Jaws version from the FS website is a full and complete version and represents the latest update. You don't even have to ever bother with the DVD, ity just adds an extra step, you could have just downloaded Jaws 2018 version 1803.24 (the March update) and installed it. I have no idea why FS insists on wasting resources by sending out these DVD's, as soon as I get mine it goes straight in the trash unopened. Regards, Sieghard

Is there a JAWS key that will open them? I'm using Roadrunner email through Mail.brighthouse.com. I'm using Internet Explorer right now, but I'd use Edge if it's possible. 2. I installed JAWS 1820 from the disk. I then downloaded the March update from the website. Do I need to download each of the other updates? Or will they be in the March update? Windows 10 doesn't seem too difficult. It's just the learning curve that makes it seem daunting. Thank you all for your patience. At least I'm trying to learn. (smile). Shirley

Edge with Jaws 2018 may not have all the features you get with IE or Chrome, but it works quite well and I'm sure it will get better in time.

The fact, however, is that Chrome is still the most popular browser and probably will remain so, it is probably followed by Firefox and those make up a huge portion of browser use.

Re: Finally got windows 10 and have questions

Thanks for everyone who has responded. I guess I wasn't expecting EDGE to work perfectly, but I assumed issues with it had been fixed. I'm actually fine with Internet Explorer for now. My hope was that there would be something better.
My question about the updates was more a question of whether I needed to go back and download the January and February updates in order to get the fixes they are said to have contained. I just couldn't figure out if one builds upon the prior or if it contains all. A little knowledge really can be a dangerous thing. :) I only have a little knowledge in the area of technology. But I can sure conjugate a verb. :) Thanks again.
