I do not use extremely large text files, but the largest text file that I have ever heard of that has been opened by notepad is 0.5 GB. I do not know anything about the relation of computer hardware.
Now, I have never tested the 0.5 GB myself, just read about it a few years ago.

I also read somewhere about notepad having a limit on total lines in the file. Do not remember what that number was, just know that it was over a million.

Hope this helps,

Chris

moderated Magnifier with Win 10

Thanks for all who have responded to this question. I will try it out with my sister. I use Jaws and have no vision, but my sister from out of state is coming for a few days and she is a high partial  and has never learned to use any type of screen reader- she just squints and uses  magnifying glasses. I am hoping while she is here we can do some things on the computer and by using the magnifier with Win 10, we should be good to go.

Again, thanks to all the help from this list!

moderated OneDrive ransomware protection

Sieghard Weitzel <sieghard@...>

Hi,

When I just booted up my computer I got an alert that OneDrive wants me to add protection so I can easily restore my files. At first I was wondering what that was all about because of course the reason why I use OneDrive is that I have a cloud backup and can sync my files between multiple devices. I Googled this and found the following article on The Verge:

Microsoft is adding ransomware protection to its OneDrive cloud storage so you can restore files easily

I then clicked on the alert and it took me to a Windows where I was on a “Protect” button which I then activated. This sounds like a nice feature and an upgrade which make OneDrive even better.

I though I post this to the Windows 10, Jaws and Viphone list because even though this does not strictly relate to iOS most of us who use OneDrive of course also use the iOS app or access it through the new Files app.

Regards,

Sieghard

Yes, Magnifier in Windows is quite good and has a similar range of options as do the pay magnifiers. If you use the start menu and type in Magnifier you can start it from there. It is also in the list of options in Ease of Access. If it works for you, you can have it as a startup option. It has a range of key commands that I will find and post in another message. You can turn it off by giving it focus and using Alt- F 4.

Have fun

Wow,  I am in PA and here we have a department with VR just for assisting blind and visually impared with work, training and the like.  Does your state have such a department?  Most do.  Also, if your former employer did not attempt to make reasonable accomadations  for your work, such as purchasing ZT for your job, then they have violated the federal “reasonable accommodation act” under ADA.  Many employers are either not aware of the law or hope you are not.

I had partial sight until 2014 and then went totally blind and made the jump to JAWS.  There was and is a learning curve but there are many helps within the program and I have basically trained myself.  It gets easier with practice.  Give yourself time to work with Fusion.

hi everyone,

I have a Fusion 11 home license that i want to upgrade to fusion 2018,  but i don’t have the $200 all at once,  because I lost my job in february.

i lost my job with DXC technologies because the place i worked for took zoomtext off my computer.  I had a corporate workstation & company wouldmt pay the bill for a corporate license.   how much does the corporate license cost?   I don’t even know they wouldn’t tell me for sure?

anyway,  this just goes to prove fusion is the perfect priduct for me because i have a smidgen of sight left but not enough to read print anymore.  i mean i can at very high magnification levels but i really need speech to distingquish beteeen 8’s & 6’s & some other letters & numbers. I’ve been trying to make the transition from zoomtext to jaws but jaws is still very confusing to me.   do you guys have any suggestions how to make the transition easier?  even with a fusion 11 home license i know zoomtext real well but Jaws I don’t really get at all & I don’t know where to go for help especially now that I’m unemployed and VR won’t help me.

VR has this new stupid rule that blindness no longer enough disabled to be a VR client no more so no one will help me.

thanks,

Hi, Mario. Mike wrote that the benefit is that if you install the JAWS
versions from latest to earliest, you will need to authorize them one at a

If you install Jaws on a new system you do have to activate it, you can do
this by inserting your authorization disk or by manually typing in your
authorization key (I have mine saved where I can quickly find it, then I
simply copy and paste into the appropriate field). As many computers don't
have DVD drives any more entering it manually might be your only option, I
think it's a 20-digit code.

Once Jaws is installed and authorized you can definitely restore your
Settings from a backup.

You probably want to call VFO-Group, better known as Freedom Scientific. You can call them at

800-444-4443. They used to have a deal for WE users who migrated to JAWS, but I don’t know if that promo is still in effect. You’d need to talk to the sales department or the customer service department about registering JAWS after your migration from WindowEyes. I’d call them, though, because you never know what they might do for you until you call them.

Thanks very much for the info on backing up Bill.

Being a fairly recent convert to Jaws from WE, I am not sure about the registering etc of a newly installed Jaws. Is  this going to cause me some grief and if so, how do I go about it?

Thanks

Hi, Tom.

1. Press INSERT plus J for the JAWS menu.

2. Press U for the Utilities Menu.

3. Press I for the Import/Export sub menu

4. Press E for Export Settings.

5. Select Type Export all settings

6. Press ENTER on the Next > Button

7. Select a location and name for your backup file.

8. If you don't select a different location the backup file will probably go in

C:\Users\Owner\Desktop\JAWS2018SettingsBackup.sbak

9. Press the Finish Button

10. You will be taken to an Export Results dialog

11. Press ENTER on the OK Button

12. to import settings, repeat steps 1 and 2, but select the import menu.

13. select the location from which to import the JAWS2018SettingsBackup.sbak file.

14. Complete any other prompts to get to the OK button.

That's it.

                Hi,

Using latest Jaws 2018 and W10 Home 64 bit.

I am thinking seriously of replacing my 7 year old desktop with a new system and was wondering how the Jaws 2018 settings could be backed up for later installation.  What do I need to do to achieve this?

Also, what do I need to do to setup Jaws on the new system as far as registration etc goes?

Is there anything else needed to be done on the Jaws front to have a smooth change from one computer to another? A copy of the latest Jaws has been already saved to an external drive.

Thanks

Tom

Has anybody worked with Notepad++?

I just started using notepad++

I noticed Jaws does not when you are trying to highlite text.

If some one could point me in the direction for some wordpad help.

The other question I have is there a better text editor that would work
better with Jaws.

My tutor and I are coding web pages.

Any help would be appreciated.

Tom,

Dan

If I can be of more help you can private message me

hi everyone,

VR has this new stupid rule that blindness no longer enough disabled to be a VR client no more so no one will help me.

thanks,

Hello,

I had the same problem with Ultraedit. Here is what I did to get it working.
A similar procedure might work for Notepad++.

Highlight some text.
Switch to the JAWS cursor and move it to one of the highlighted characters.
Press CTRL-JAWS-H for custom highlight.
Press OK to set both foreground an background.
I think it is at this point you will be asked if you want to create a custom
config file for Notepad++ and the answer is yes.
You will get another warning about creating a custom highlight, and the
answer is yes.

I think I got all the steppes, I was writing it from memory. Give it a try
and let us know if it works.

Hi,

I don't have sight to confirm if this is correct, but I'm pretty sure in windows 10 if you just press and hold the windows key and then press either the plus or minus symbols on the number keypad that should increase and decrease the magnification , its meant to be pretty good from what I've heard and I don't believe you need to turn on anything for that to work, just use those key combinations, hope this helps
