hi,
if anyone else is having trouble making these scripts work with jaws 15 or lower.
here is a solution.

oh yeh imn new to the list cheers.

Fix for tab reader scripts

  1. 1.Open the .jsd documentation file for the tab scripts.

2Go down the page and  Delete all the “SearchRank” delete only the SearchRank. very important.

  1. 3.Save the changes.

4close the documentation window.

5 open the .jss file for tab reader scripts.

6. it should say error unknown word-: meaning the colon.

7. open the .jsd file again the script documentation file.

8. go down the page and there should  be a : colon that is by itself a few lines down from the top.

9. delete the colon. Only this colon.

10. save the changes.

10. open the .jss file for the tab scripts . it should open without any errors.

11. press the compile command. Control plus S.

Thanks for this. I've been going into recycle and hitting Contro shift application key, then arrowing down to empty recycle bin. This works, but is a longer way.

Hello Dave and anyone else on this thread:

I have a .reg file which is called, "Activate Sound in SafeMode.reg".

A few years ago, someone on this list posted a download link for this file, which is how I obtained the file. I used it successfully in Windows XP.

I am running Windows 7. I installed this .reg file the other day, and when I made the change in MSConfig to have Windows 7 restart in Safe Mode, and restarted Windows 7, the sound drivers were loaded and I heard the Windows 7 start up audio sound. I was able to use NVDA with no difficulty. I cannot guarantee the .reg file will work in Windows 10, but, there again, no one got anywhere, without trying.

If anyone would like this .reg file, contact me off-list, and I will reply to you as soon as possible, attaching the .reg file, with instructions. My email address is:

Hi All,
I have an HP lap top with a 101 type keyboard which means it has the numb
pad. There is an annoying problem. The key that is usually between the
ALT key and the CTRL key on the right side of the space bar is not there.
This was the key that we can use to open context menus mostly the same as
pressing the right mouse button. I miss having this function cause in
some applications routing the Jaws cursor to the PC cursor doesn't always
work.
Does anyone who has an HP lap top with this missing key know a work around
or some key combination HP came up with to replace the key?

Thx -Steve

moderated Stand alone Jaws accessible program on Windows 10 with Google Calendar integration?

Cristóbal

Hello list,

As the subject line states, I’m looking for a stand alone Jaws accessible calendar with Google calendar integration. I do use Outlook and the outlook calendar and while with some tinkering, you can import  a Google calendar into the Outlook calendar, you can’t do anything from within Outlook but view appointments. I took a quick look at the built-in Windows 10 calendar and wasn’t terribly convinced.

Anyone know of something that may work? That or can the built-in Windows 10 calendar app actually do this?

Thanks,

Cristobal

It's also possible to turn an ISO image into a bootable disk, such as a standard compact disk. The image isn't very big so it will fit on a standard 700-meg CD. Trouble is, like has been said, we don't even know what operating system it is, so it's kind of guesswork as to what screenreader will work with it. Something Windows? Something Linux? Character- or window-based? Nobody has ever tried reverse-engineering DBAN. If I had better smarts, I'd've given it a try years ago, but that one's a bit over my head.

Yes, this is an ISO image so you need to use a utility such as Rufus to create either a bootable CD/DVD or, in my opinion a better solution, a bootable USB drive, just copying the ISO to a USB drive will not work.

Once that is done you have to make sure your computer is set up to boot from a USB drive, this is done in the BIOS and hence no speech is available and you need sighted help.

Once you can boot from a USB drive you would simply boot up the computer which contains the hard drive you want to completely wipe/overwrite. Since you are actually booting up from this ISO and not Windows there is no opportunity for Jaws to run. If you have sighted help I assume they then follow the on-screen instructions to select the drive you want to erase and complete the task.

Best regards,

Sieghard

Sieghard Weitzel <sieghard@...>

In Control Centre I can get to it, but in Settings it is not there for me if Set Time Automatically is selected.
here is what I get starting at the Settings search field, I used Jaws speech history to copy this:

Search box, Find a setting edit
Time & Language List box, Date & time, 1 of 3 - I now continue to press tab:
Set time automatically Button, On
Set time zone automatically Button, On
Show additional calendars in the taskbar Combo box, Don’t show additional calendars
Change date and time formats Link
Additional date, time, & regional settings Link
Add clocks for different time zones Link
Get help Link
Give us feedback Link
Home Button

If I press the spacebar on Set Time Automatically to turn it off, the focus/cursor jumps to "Change Date and Time Formats".
If I tab to the Settings search field again and tab through the options from the beginning I now have the "Set Date and Time" button between "Set Time Zone Automatically" and "Show Additional Calendars on the Taskbar" where before turning off automatic time there was nothing.

Sieghard

First of all, why is your time not correct, the clock should set itself automatically.
OK, having said this, Steve must have turned off the "Set Time Automatically" option because only when you do this will the Change Date and Time button show up.
1. Go to Settings > Time and Language and press enter 2. Tab to the first of the 3 items in that menu/area "Date and Time"
3. Tab once and press the spacebar to turn poff Set Time Automatically 4. Tab twice more to get to Set Date and Time. There is also another option to turn off Set Time Zone Automatically.

For me turning on Set Date and Time which I believe is the default always has the exact and correct time.

Thanks, will try moving file as I am using One Drive.  Also found that using the “Tab” key makes a difference.  Yes, JAWS is good but since VFO bought them and nudged out Window Eyes it appears to me that tech support and reliability has fallen off.  Nvidia is good for routine tasks but not as much for major work projects.

Can you be more specific? I have no issues with Excel 2016 and Jaws 2018 latest update on my Windows 7 work desktops or my Windows 10 laptop.

Which OS are you using? Which version of Jaws?

Also, are the files you are opening stored in a OneDrive folder? I did have some problems a few weeks ago where Excel crashed if I tried to open a file which was in OneDrive, as soon as I copied said file to say the Desktop or another local folder it was fine. However, this problem disappeared for me again as well.

As for competition, there is NVDA, I don’t use it because I have been a Jaws user for 29 years this fall (starting with Jaws for DOS of course, and I just can’t get used to NVDA. But those who use it a lot seem to like it quite a bit.
