Hi Mike,

To be clear, while I’m current with my Jaws and thus this wouldn’t really affect me, I’d like for this to be true since it would help people in general.

I’m just skeptical in that it’s only one VFO person who said this where even the whisper of such a program hasn’t really been brought up before.

Like I said, I’m more inclined to think that there may have been some misinformation given out by one rep, but I’d be happy to be proven wrong.

I guess it can be an incentive to get more folks current so they and VFO can in turn get away from older OS’s like Vista and Windows 7, but on the other hand, if an upgrade is so cheap, where’s the incentive to stay current in the first place? I remember having to shell out around $440 to catch up on a two or three cycle upgrade back in the day. So yeah, that wasn’t fun.

I was about to say… While this sounds like a great deal, my first inclination is to believe that the lady was either confused by the query or simply didn’t know what she was talking about. As was mentioned in the original message, she was a Windows Eyes refugee. So who knows, maybe she just wasn’t’ up on her training. That or perhaps she was confuddled with a CSUN offer that may be going on right now.

I’m going to guess that Eric Damery if not overwhelmed with the CSUN stuff this week will chime in on this thread to clarify either way.

Most likely is that this is probably too good to be true and customer service staff (mainly Window Eyes transplants) are going to be sent a memo regarding the same.

Hi, Mike. I just called VFO to inquire about this new plan, whereby people who have gotten behind in their upgrades for the home version could upgrade to the latest version of JAWS for $200. The lady I spoke with at VFO disputed this. Can you give more information as to the person with whom you spoke?

Thank you.

Hi All,

The other day I called VFO / Freedom Scientific to see if they had any new financial plans for people that had gotten way behind because of financial difficulties, & wanted to get upgraded / updated to the latest version.  Well, to my surprise what I found out was absolutely fantastic!  A friend needed to be updated because he was at Jaws 11 & he needed to be upgraded to be compatible with the Windows 7 system he is moving to from XP.  Okay to cut this short, I found out people can be upgraded from Jaws 11 to Jaws2018 for $200.00.  The lady I talked to was a Window Eyes transplanted employee & she didn't know how long this financial plan had been in place.  So for all you that need to be upgraded but have financial difficulty, don't be afraid to call & inquire about new financial / payment plans!  This $200.00 plan is only for the Home versions.

Hello.

Reinstalling Windows won't change the locking code. This means that when you enter the authorization number, Jaws will use the same license that you had and won't count an other activation.
In case tech service changes something else and the locking code changes, you get three activations and can request three more for free if you need them.

Best.

Press the windows key and type power and sleep settings then press enter.
Click on Additional power settings Link.
Click on Choose what the power buttons do Link.
Now click on Show items that are not currently availible.
Now go to Turn on fast startup and uncheck it.

Hi:

You could try starting Jaws as a service, that might help

I wish I could tell you how to do that.

I will do some investigation to try to help.

The other thing to check is to see if fast startup is checked.

Check in task manager to see if there things that are running that you don't need.
If I think of any thing else I will let you know.

Hi: I just purchased the following laptop with windows 10. Dell XPS 13-9360 - 1511338729-NW

Intel Quad-Core i7-8550u Processor
16GB DDR4 2133mhz Ram
512 SSD Hard Drive
Windows 10 Home 64 Bit
Intel UHD Graphics 620
Jaws is lagging. For instance, after restart, it takes 15 seconds for jaws to come up. When I hit the fingerprint it takes jaws time to come up. I called Freedom with no success. I tried to set Jaws as a priority but when I restart that setting doesn't stick. Does anyone have any suggestions, and have you been able to make jaws as a priority remain as set?
Thank you.

This is just how it is with Jaws and Win. My specs are simular to yours:
Intel 8500K (Unlocked) running at 4GHz.
16GB of DDR 4 3200Hz.
M2 NVME 256GB SSD. 2486MBps. Read and 2248MBps write. Yes 2.48GBps and 2.24GBps. Windows 10 Loads in 5 seconds and Jaws still takes another 10 or so seconds to speak.

Good Evening Folks

I have a copy of ZoomText Fusion 11 on my computer and also have a stand alone copy of JAWS 2018 as well. I just purchased an SMA a while back and wnt to migrate over to Fusion 2018 so the question is will it see my copy of JAWS 2018 and not install that portion of Fusion or will there be a second copy installed? Moving forward I will just be picking up SMAs for Fusion however I happen to have licenses for both.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I have a similar issue. I am using a Dell laptop with Windows 7, running the latest version of JAWS Fusion.

I usually have to press the arrow keys several times or alt-tab between programs several times to get JAWS talking. I have a little vision so I can see that the screen is not showing the screen saver, but JAWS does not talk right away.

Do you mean 15 seconds after you put in your password? If so then that is pretty normal, takes about the same on my Asus Zenbook which has similar specs than your laptop except my I7 CPU is probably a generation or so before yours. Jaws starts a bit faster with Windows 7, but with Windows 10 that seems to be the way it is.

Hi: I just purchased the following laptop with windows 10. Dell XPS 13-9360 - 1511338729-NW

Intel Quad-Core i7-8550u Processor
16GB DDR4 2133mhz Ram
512 SSD Hard Drive
Windows 10 Home 64 Bit
Intel UHD Graphics 620
Jaws is lagging. For instance, after restart, it takes 15 seconds for jaws to come up. When I hit the fingerprint it takes jaws time to come up. I called Freedom with no success. I tried to set Jaws as a priority but when I restart that setting doesn't stick. Does anyone have any suggestions, and have you been able to make jaws as a priority remain as set?
Thank you.

What computer is this on? Are you using the default soundcard/speakers (if it's a laptop) or do you use something like a bluetooth headset? Sounds almost like a power thing where something goes to sleep.

Hello,
If I don't continue typing or reading JAWS 2018 stops talking. It doesn't matter what program I am in. It is like it goes to sleep. I have to move the arrows up & down to get it to respond. Is anyone else experiencing this?
Denise

Do you mean 15 seconds after you put in your password? If so then that is pretty normal, takes about the same on my Asus Zenbook which has similar specs than your laptop except my I7 CPU is probably a generation or so before yours. Jaws starts a bit faster with Windows 7, but with Windows 10 that seems to be the way it is.

Hello John, there is no jaws specific way to start narrator but you
use the windows command to both start and stop narrator the command is,
control plus windows key plus inter pressed together.
This command works whether jaws is installed on a computer or not. HTH.

In windows 10, is there a jaws keystroke to start Narrator?

Hi,
To me, that's not normal, although for a while it has become normal for JAWS
to start with some delay (likely to fire up components). To really test this
is a JAWS thing, try with Narrator and see if makes sense.
Cheers,
Joseph

I have a desktop with similar CPU and twice the RAM and SSD. It takes more
than 50 seconds for Jaws to talk.

Dell tells me that is normal with Windows 10 Pro.

I don't have an SSD drive, but Jaws takes a lot more than 15 seconds to
start up, so I'm envious.
