The other thing you can do is stop the start up programs running when your PC starts. Again there are a couple of ways to do this and some are quite straight forward. I haven't been following this post so not sure if someone has already suggested these fixes or whether you've sorted the problem yet, but if you haven't let me know and I'd be happy to help

Denise,

I have the same issue. It appears this is a bug specific to JAWS 2018 that FreedomScientific has not yet squashed. The best workaround until FS fixes the problem I can recommend is to set a temporary placemarker (Ctrl Windows k) on the web page just before you Alt Tab away from it, and then navigate to it when you return to the page by pressing the letter k. I hope this helps.

Also when I’m in a word document & I pause for a few seconds it is like JAWS goes to sleep.  I have to arrow up & down to read the line or continue typing.  Is there a setting to fix this & why does it do this?

These things happened when I got a new computer & updated Office & JAWS.  I am currently using Windows 10, Office 2016 & Internet Explorer & JAWS 2018

Re: An Excel Question

Chris Chaffin

I understand what you are trying to do. Have you tried the f6 keystroke to see if that would switch you back and forth?
I know this is normally the keystroke when switching between different panes within a window.

If this does not work, how about using monitor cells?  I know you can assign different cells to be monitor cells so you can quickly check the cell with a simple keystroke.
You can read about monitor cells and what keystrokes are involved in the Jaws help.

Re: Attention Quentin or Joseph, Personal Accounting Package accessible with Jaws

Paul Hunt <prhunt1@...>

Hello. I’m a former Quicken Deluxe user and switched to Moneytalks. Moneytalks is self voicing so you don’t need JAWS to use it. I don’t use the download feature. I enter my transactions manually and clear them when they clear my bank. I imported my Quicken transactions to get started. The check writing feature also works very well.

On Mar 4, 2018, at 12:22 PM, ely.r@... wrote:

Afternoon,

I used Quicken successfully for years. I had lost my install and purchased the newest version that turn out to be an accessibility nightmare.

In looking about, what I ended up doing was purchasing Money Talks the APH product that self-voices or works with JAWS, but have not tried it with NVDA, but will and report back. To be honest, since I made that purchase I have not given it the time I should. However it does allow for download of bank account information and lets one do basic checkbook and savings account management.

Your note made me think to look at Quick Books accessibility and the search turned up an older article at AFB’s Access World. The link is at:

http://www.afb.org/afbpress/pubnew.asp?DocID=aw150502

It was promising but dated 2014. It mentioned the joint work done by Intuit and  Blind Spot . Reference to Blind Spot is at:

Clearly Quick Books is more than I need and its pricey.  At the Blind Spot I went to their store to see about the scripts and training materials

You can purchase the following there.

QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2018, My Blind Spot JAWS scripts for Quickbooks, and Support Materials

$525.00

Under FAQs I found:

14) Where can I get the NVDA version of the scripts?

NVDA QuickBooks Accessibility Initiative

Seems a lot to keep my checking account balanced.

Re: windows10 start up jingle

Richard Turner <richardturner42@...>

With Windows 10, you can get to the sounds section of the control panel simply by tapping your Windows key to bring up the search box and typing "sounds" without the quotation marks, and hit enter.
Then, you may need to hit control+tab twice to get to the Sound Scheme tab, then tab a few times to get to the check box for Windows Startup sound.
The default startup sound is located in c:\windows\media
And is creatively titled: Windows Startup.wav

If you want a custom sound, you could replace that .wav file with one wit the identical name.

Subject: Re: windows10 start up jingle

Hi, Val. Do what John Covici suggested. Locate your Control Panel and press ENTER.

Once you are in Control Panel, locate Sounds, and press ENTER.

When you see the sounds which will probably be Windows Default, check to see if your Start Up sound is checked. If it isn't, press SPACE to check it. Then TAB over to Apply and press ENTER.

I didn't know that your Start Up sound wasn't checked. In any case, you would have had to turn Fast Start Up off to get your Start Up sound.

There is a quick and easy way to find links to radio stations that will play on the computer. Use the following service which has a list of radio stations.

Here must be a easier way to find a radio station feed.

Any help would be appreciated.

Have a good day.

John Covici

go to sound in control panel, do shift tab, right arrow twice till you
hear sound schemes and see if the startup sound checkbox is checked.
This feature is working here.

Hi Nino,

Are you actually looking for a list of urls that will play stations when you click on them?  If I can find them, I had some on my old PC.  Let me know if this is what you mean.

Hello Mike B.

Thank you for the steps that you posted on the list to speak capital letters. I finally was able to get this to work for myself. Hearing what is capitalized was a feature that was available in Window-Eyes. I am glad that it is now working for me from within JAWS 2018.
