OK, I'm back with a report on starting a Mac on a schedule. I was dubious, and frankly expected failure. But no! At six o'clock this morning, as my four-legged alarm-clock awoke us, I heard the familiar Apple bong. Amazing!

Every version of Windows back to at least XP,maybe even further, has a program called Task Scheduler. You can certainly add a task to shut the machine down in there. Starting it again, though, I don't think is possible. In fact, I'd go out on a limb to say it is absolutely positively not possible. Think about it: How would a device that's quiet, not taking power, not responsive to any stimuli either internal or external, know, or be told by some external force, that it's time to turn on?

Incorrect documents/links keep getting opened

Hi Everyone,

I am using JAWS 16 on a Windows 10 machine. One problem that I often
face on this laptop is that, when I press enter on a particular file
to open it, another file gets opened instead. Those two files may be
located adjacent to each other, or they may be at a great distance
from each other. Similarly, in Firefox, this often happens with links
- I press enter on link A and link B gets opened instead.

I'd be grateful if people here could offer me pointers to figure out
how I can deal with this problem. It results in the wastage of a lot
of time.

Best,
Rahul

Has you on this list experience with Roundcube Webmail and an accessible theme, or alternatively with other webmail software's I can install on the web hotel (PHP or ASP) where the accessibility for screen reader users working?

Hi,

Aero Snap is one of the interesting features of Windows 10 that automatically arrange windows by tiles or side by side. Here are the different methods

on how you can customize your windows view on your desktop using Aero  Snap:

Method 1: Side by side windows.

This method will make each window take half of the computer screen allowing you to arrange it side by side.

1. Press and hold Windows logo key.

2. Press the left or right arrow key.

Method 2: Vertical Snap

You can also use Aero Snap to maximize or minimize the open windows on your desktop.

1. Press and hold Windows logo key + Up arrow key to snap the window to the top halves of the screen.

2. Press and hold Windows logo key + Down arrow key to snap the window to the bottom halves of the screen.

3. Press Windows logo key + Up arrow key twice to maximize the window.

4. Press Windows logo key + Down arrow key twice to minimize the window.

Hi Nino

sorry forgot to answer your original question, how to turn the computer off

this is the way I do it, others may have a better way.

Open the command prompt,

then lets say I want the computer to turn off in 2 hours,

I have to work out the amount of seconds this is,

so 2 hours is 120 minutes then I times 120 by 60 to give me the seconds.

= 7200 seconds

so now I type the below string into the command prompt

shutdown /s /t 7200

then press enter, & this will turn the computer off in 2 hours

note the spaces between the switches, example,

shutdown is the command

/s is a switch telling the computer to turn off,

example, /r tells the computer to restart

now /t tells it to turn off after the amount of seconds you have entered after the /t

so I spose t for time

so if you type in the command prompt

shutdown /s /t 60

the computer will shutdown in sixty seconds

hope this helps

Do you know if they make a skeduler to turn off the computer at a certain time.

I download podcasts but I don’t want to sit here until they all download.

I was hoping that there would be a way to shut the computer down at acertain time?

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: computer slow after start up.

netbat66

the reason sleep mode loads fast is because everything that is running in memory is dumped to a file on the drive. so when you wake it up it only has to retreive this dump file and load it back into memory.
it doesn't have to search and load the programs from scratch again.
but if you are useing a solid state drive i would not use sleep mode.
the more you have to write data to the drive the faster it will wear out.

Some laptop manufacturers install a lot of what's generally known as bloatware. Only way to really get rid of this and start with a clean slate is to make a Windows 10 USB installation stick, make sure you have all your data on an external drive or in the cloud and then reinstall Windows 10 from scratch including deleting all partitions, re-partitioning and formatting the hard drive or SSD.
Once you are done reinstall Jaws and instal the applications you want.

! I have now removed eset Nov32, but there are still quite a few things on here which i'd be frightened to remove. One of them is Levono settings, another is Levono companion. I've also got office 365, and some others which were on when i got the computer.

I have tried N.v.d.a, and this seems to be a bit quicker at starting
up than Jaws.Hi
