Re: walking noise in word or emails

Bill White <billwhite92701@...>

Hi, Mike. I need more information. Are you using a desktop keyboard, or a laptop keyboard? Perhaps you have it set so that you are now using the Touch Cursor within these programs.

To check if this is the culprit, try the following. If using a laptop, Open one of the programs, then press and hold CAPSLOCK and press semicolon twice quickly. now try typing in the program and see if the sound has gone away.

If using a desktop, hold down the JAWS key and press the PC Cursor key twice quickly. The PC Cursor key is on the Number Pad at the right-hand side of the Number Pad, just to the right of the nine key. Type in the program as usual, and see if you still hear the walking noise. If not, you have your JAWS configuration set to use the Touch Cursor. If this is the case, it is not the best configuration for these programs.

To disable the Touch Cursor in a specific application,

1. Open the program.

2. Press JAWS key plus V.

3. In the search box, type, Touch Cursor.

4. Arrow down to Touch Cursor Options, and press ENTER.

5. Make sure Automatic Activation is unchecked.

6. Make sure Touch Quick Keys is unchecked.

7. TAB to OK, and press ENTER.

Now if the Touch Cursor was active in this application, it will not be in future.

Hi guys:

When I type or arrow around in word or outlook,

I hear what sounds like someone is walking with shoes;

What is jaws trying to tell me with this noise?

It sounds important for I hear it on many lines of data of which I read?

Please advise further?

I’ve had this happen and get out of that loop by quickly pressing tab before it settles on one of the two programs and then it will go to a third.

Ditto. I find the interface with JAWS a bit weird, but it's definitely accessible and doable, kind of like ResilioSync, the replacement for BTSync. Everything's there, you just have to know how to work with it.

is something like 5 minutes or less to burn without to about 20

Re: Speech on Demand

Tom <tomcat509@...>

Hi Bill,

Followed your instructions below and found  the setting is already set to less speech options, speech on demand  but changed it and then changed it back prior to pressing enter on OK.  Unfortunately nothing has changed.  i.e. pressing insert space then s just gives two options, speech on and speech off.

I’ll contact F S soon to see what the problem is and how to fix it.

The Jaws about section definitely shows 2018.1802.78.

Thanks for all your help.

Hi, Tom. JAWS should not say Speech Off. It should say Speech Mute. If you press INSERT plus SPACE, S again, it should say Full Speech.

Try the following.

1. Open JAWS Settings Center.

2. In the search box, type the word speech.

3. Arrow down to Speech options, and press ENTER.

4. Open Speech Options with Right Arrow.

5. Arrow down to Less Speech Options

6. When you Arrow down to Less Speech Options, if it says Speech Mute, press Space once.

7. It will say Speech On Demand.

8. TAB to the OK box and press ENTER.

Now, when you press JAWS key plus SPACE, S, it should toggle between Full Speech and Speech On Demand.

jaws 2018 is so flaky.

i played around for more then 30 minutes after i logged in. i also logged in and out several times with different results most of the time.
sometimes it works fine and i can just press enter on the buttons and links and i can get the info. without haveing to use any of the jaws hot keys.
i can tell that the screen is changeing when i click on the buttons and links but jaws will not speak these screen changes.
it looks like firefox is hanging
it will just sit there saying working until i alt tab away and back to firefox. then jaws will find the account balances and everything works again without the jaws hot keys.
it speaks the text if i find them with the mouse too.

Hello. I use the Wells Fargo web site every day without any difficulties at
all. I'm using Windows 10 with JAWS 2018 and the VFO recommended version of
Firefox. The layout is different but accessible. Here are the steps I use to
get to my accounts.
1. I log into the Wells Fargo web site.
2. I press the B keyhstroke until JAWS says "Accounts Button Collapsed.
3. I press the Enter key.
4. I press the JawsKey+Alt+M keystroke to move to the Control Element. You
must be on the Accounts button to do this.
5. JAWS puts you on the View All Accounts in one place link.
6. Press the Enter key to activate the link.
7. Use the B keystroke to find the appropriate account button.
Press the Enter key to get access to your account.
Once you're in the account area there's a button to switch accounts which
bbrings up a list of buttons for each account.
The Wells Fargo web site uses Aria. Once you get used to the layout, it
should work fine for you. I use billpay, transfer money and send money with
Zel.
I hope this helps.
