with 1.75, you have to disable the automatic updating of the program
right after it gets installed. by doing so, the detection definitions
are not affected. you will still get them. however, I hear the latest
version (3.whatever) is fairly accessible/usable. once you get the hang
of it, it becomes easier and easier to use.

you download the trial, and after the 30 days, it is rendered to the
free version with some limitations.

Malwarebytes is a good one. Unfortunately, it seems now that it is a
paid service. But you can still get version 1.75 that works well
with Win 7 and you get updates once a week. I've picked up a whole
lot of junk using it and it gets rid of them well.

Re: accessible anti-malware?

I've heard that the Windows Defender on Windows 10 is fairly decent,
which is antivirus and antimalware rolled into one program. it already
comes with Windows 10, so no need to install it, just start using it.

if you're talking about Windows 7, there is Microsoft's Security
Essentials which is only antivirus and Windows Defender which was
antispyware. it may be advisable to seek a third party antimalware
solution for Windows 7 because MSE was rumored (true or not) to not be
very good at catching the nasties floating around out there on the
Internet. one such (popular) program was/is the free or paid Avast.

I’ll always give Ron Santo big time kudos for being one of the best third base players of his time. Plus, if you listened to when he reminisced about playing back in the day; playing third base and catching high speed line drive bullets; all while in the middle of a low blood sugar moment! In Jaws you can simply do a say line to read the calculator result. I know this is not how it should be, but until FS fixes this which I don’t doubt will happen this is an easy work-around.

Hi,

It could be both JAWS and the app. If you have latest JAWS 2018 (or 18.0) build, Calculator results might not be read (or at least for me and others, it does not) due to the fact that the app raises a UIA event JAWS doesn’t know about. I thought this is fixed in build 1802.78 but it apparently wasn’t.

Cheers,

Joseph

Joseph,

Here's a strange one for you. I posted this before, but it might have been in a thread in which you weren't interested. But I bet this will be of interest. It's regarding Calculator.

I have two Windows 10 systems, one generated from version 1603 and up-to-date as of this morning, and another generated from the version 1709 Fall Creators Update, also up-to-date as of this morning. On the newer system--the one generated from the FCU--Calculator does not read results automatically JAWS Key + Q reports the application name is Microsoft.WindowsCalculator. On the older system--the one generated from version 1603--calculation results are read correctly, but on that system, the application name is ApplicationFrame.dll. What do you make of that difference--not just the application name difference, but the screenreader behavior difference, too?

Hi all,

First, apologies for mentioning competition, but I felt it is best to do so given the overall context. Second, the advisory is deemed major (to severe for some cases) and is applicable for people running Windows 10 Fall Creators Update and beyond. The source of this advisory is a Win10 forum hosted on Groups.IO at https://win10.groups.io/g/win10.

It may be true that the audio only page no longer exists, but the site with the audio and video links remains fully accessible with JAWS. The audio/video player is also accessible. I have to say the MLB has done an excellent job making the service accessible to us on all platforms, including the Apple TV app, which I just downloaded to access my MLB.tv Premium subscription.

Game day audio is messed up.

Re: Win 10 on a Mac Book Pro

Hi David. There is the alt key which is the option key, the Command is the Windows Key. If you put your Jaws into Laptop Layout your Jaws Key becomes the CapsLock key. Although the Mac does not have a Numberpad once you put Jaws into Laptop Mode it has commands to establish the things you do using the Numberpad on a Pc. If that's your question. Now one thing to remember is some things totally depend on the way your installing Windows. Parallel which is a program to Load Windows is inaccessible. VmWine Fusion is good but needs a purchase and another thing about it is that if you use that to load Windows the Jaws Key becomes a prolbem and you have to remap it using things like SharpKeys and bind with another key. Sometimes you may not have speech or you may have trouble with using key commands when moving between the Operating System since you don't reboot. I love MacOs and Windthes both which means to have the best experience I use Bootcamp which is from Apple where you load one operating at a time and this creates no clutter like it does with VmWare. It is also free. If you wish to ask questions and if this goes off topic for the Email List just email me privately to ask questions. I'm in Grade 9 but have used technology enough to assist at some degree. My email is owaisipatel@.... Hope this helps.

Sincerely,
Owais

I want to convert my Mac Book Pro to a windows 10.  My question, is it problematic when it comes to key strokes as the Mac Book Pro does not have a numeric keypad.  Just numbers at the top.  Also, what about the insert or JAWS key. The mac is 5 years old.  Hardly used, this is why I wanted to convert it to a Windows 10 computer.  Using the Mac is to combersome.   David & his pack of dogs. Hi everyone,

Hello fellow listerrs,

I know we’ve dealt with this subject in the past, but can someone tell me a fairly decent anti-malware software.

Thx,

Maybe tune in radio would be the perfect alternative.
