Re: Google wifi wireless router and jaws

Hello there:

That is why I would never buy a separate router or modem or a unit containing both devices produced by google or Microsoft.

It is bad enough these two companies spy on their users through their software, without giving them another avenue through which they can spy, control and manipulate customers.

If Val is referring to the google Mesh routers then at least their high-end units are among the most expensive in the industry, definitely not a cheap product which is subsidised by Google because it helps them to collect more information about you.

I don’t know about this router. What I do know is how the big, wealthy internet-based technology companies make their money. Companies like Google, Facebook and Twitter offer virtually zero customer service and support. If they did, their offerings would not be free or cheap.
Apple charges more for its products, but it delivers a fantastic experience.

Has anyone tried this, and if so, does it work well with Jaws?

Hi, it's Annabelle.
I'm wondering if the System Restore in Safe Mode will show more restore points
then are displayed currently on my computer? I'm trying to go back to 1/10/2018
at 10:29 AM and January 14, 2018, but in Normal Windows Mode, it won't let me
go back any further than 1/15/2018 at 10:34 PM. Please help! Also, is there a
way for someone blind like me to access Safe Mode with a screenreader? The
reason why I want to do this is because I've deleted some important documents,
quite by accident, even the backups I've made on my external hard drive, and
I've been stressed out ever since this happened. I have ICare Data Recovery
Pro, but all it seems to recover in this circumstance is empty directories. I
know I haven't written anything to the current partition since this happened,
so I need to take immediate action before anything serious happens. Should I
have my sighted friend, Markus Johnson (Yes, that's Markus with a K, not a C),
to restore my lost documents? That is, if system restore will actually do that
for me?

Re: JAWS and Safe Mode

Dave Durber

Hello Annabell:

That is correct, however, if you accidentally press DELETE and confirm the deletion or you press SHIFT+DELETE on a file/files or a folder/folders you did not mean to delete, you can recover that file/files or a folder/folders, with programs such as, File Scavenger and the like as long as the following conditions apply:

1. In order for such programs to recover files or folders you have deleted, it is very important that such software be installed on the particular drive, especially, if the deleted data is located on drive C, prior to the time you deleted the file/files or folder/folders.

2. in addition, you attempt to recover the deleted data, before any changes are, or, have been made to the drive on which the deleted file/files or folder/folders reside.

3. If you do not attempt to recover the deleted files or folders immediately, any changes to the drive, may result in the area where the deleted files/folders are located being over written by the new data, causing the perminent loss of those deleted files or folders.

HTH

Sincerely:

Dave Durber

I dont use system restore anymore but I think there is a button to show earlier restore points. You may need to use the Jaws or touch cursor to find it. Maybe have your sighted friend look for it.

Re: JAWS and Safe Mode

Bill White <billwhite92701@...>

I don’t think you can. Your hard drive only keeps a limited number of restore points, because each one takes a lot of drive space. Still and all, even if you could get a restore point earlier than January 15, that would not bring your documents back. For that, you need recovery software that can go in and undelete deleted files.

I think that is still a little ways away if you are talking about Firefox Quantum or version 57 and up. If not, what Firefox issue do you mean, I don’t use it often, but have the ESR version (extended service release) and it seems to work fine.

Am also having a couple of querky issues in 2018 and hopefully this will be also fixed in the next update.

Bluehost with screen-readers

Jessica D <jldail13@...>

Hi,

I have a website, and am seriously considering moving it to wordpress.

I found a web host, by the name of bluehost.

Does anyone know if this webhost is accessible with jaws  or NVDA?

Does anyone know how to use this webhost with voiceover and safari on the mac?

Thanks,

Jessica

Actually both firefox and Jaws need to make some major modifications to their code bases.

NVDA accesses the web content differently than jaws.

The firefox fixes will be done by may when firefox 60 gets released.

For now, use firefox ESR which I think is 52.6.0, which works fine.  Soon we’ll be back on the regular update cycle.

The Firefox issue is not a JAWS issue. It is a Firefox issue, and will not be resolved until about May, when Firefox is supposed to come out with a version which does not interfere with JAWS.

Hi Jim!  The new JAWS update is supposed to be available this week, perhaps as early as tomorrow, according to the latest FS Cast episode which was released last Friday.

Heya folks,

Is there a reason we haven’t had an update for Jaws 2018? We usually get monthly updates and the initial release of 2018 in December, they still haven’t fixed the firefox issue, could that be the reason?

Am also having a couple of querky issues in 2018 and hopefully this will be also fixed in the next update.

Cheers,

Jim

Those are also my thoughts. If it has a Web interface, then you should
be able to do what you need from your browser. Have you done a google
search for a manual with the model number of the router? Often a PDF
is available.

If a company is used to providing zero customer service, it likely
will follow the same pattern in other products. Google is now getting
into hardware with phones and now routers. The company has not
demonstrated whether it can support and service the hardware products
it designs and markets. With the recent Pixel 2, the screen suffered
from ghosting and Google did not apologize for this manufacturing
flaw.

default password which is incredibly important and amazinly it is not
something many people do there isn't much the average user has to do.

Yes, I believe that's the one he was talking about, but i didn't know
anything about them, and infact, hadn't even heard of them

He did say though, they were a bit expensive. He was just wondering if they
would work with Jaws that was all

If Val is referring to the google Mesh routers then at least their
high-end units are among the most expensive in the industry, definitely
not a cheap product which is subsidised by Google because it helps them to
collect more information about you.

I don’t know about this router. What I do know is how the big, wealthy
internet-based technology companies make their money. Companies like
Google, Facebook and Twitter offer virtually zero customer service and
support. If they did, their offerings would not be free or cheap.
Apple charges more for its products, but it delivers a fantastic
experience.

Hi everyone!

Had a visit from my nephew today, and he has just purchased the google
wifi wireless. According to him, its brill! He was asking me if this
would work with Jaws, but as he's the only one i know who's using it,
i couldn't tell him.

Has anyone tried this, and if so, does it work well with Jaws?

I would also be interested in people's opinion on this.

My nephew is very interested in what works for us, and what doesn't!
