If it's a laptop, usually the ESCAPE key is to the left of F1, making F4 the fifth key in from the left.

Val, when you are on the desktop, you can close your computer the way you
always used to. Press the ALT key and hold it down. Then, if your function keys
aren’t being used as media keys, press the F4 key which should be the fifth key
from the left, at the top of the keyboard.

Your computer should say,

Shut Down Windows dialog
Select the option that best describes why you want to shut down the computer
What do you want the computer to do? Combo box
Shut down

Then just press ENTER. If your function keys aren’t working this way, you need
someone to go into the UEFI and turn off Media Keys. This requires a sighted
person who knows how to get into the BIOS or UEFI before the computer boots.

Press the Windows key, and you are in a search box. Tab once, and you will hear mike. If you enter there, you can ask Cortana a question, just like asking SIRI.

If you tab past the mike, you are in a list. The power button is there, and your account button to open your Microsoft account. Tab again, and you are on your list of apps and programs. Now, you can down arrow through all of your programs. Tab past that, and you are on your app tiles. You can use all arrow keys to go from tile to tile, just like on a phone. Instead of all of that, though, you can just type the program or app you want to bring up in the search edit box.

For example, type:

Notepad in the search edit box, and you will hear Notepad as one of your choices. Just press enter, and Notepad will open. It is that simple to find a program and open it in the search area that is in Windows 7 as well. I have a lot of tutorials on using Windows 10, if you would like them. Windows 10 is different, but you can do everything you did in Windows 7, you just have to do it differently.

I believe this is a Word issue.

If I then search for a word, from that point on, they attempt to repeat the search, which is not helpful.

I can duplicate this problem.  I could make ctr l+page up or page down work by pressing Jaws+f3 pass key first. Does that mean it is a Jaws script error?

I tried closing the search pain but that didn't help. In fact. It then would not pass the key through and I could not move by pages at all.

This is a known issue with JAWS 18, and JAWS 2018 latest versions. Microsoft has changed the interface. JAWS says they will fix it in the February 2018 update to JAWS 2018.

Re: Removable disk shortcut?

To bad we can't just hit run and type eject drive x:. Or better still. add eject to the shortcut.

That is one way to do it which has not been changed since Windows 7 at least.
If you already know the drive letter for your CD drive or other removeable drive, you can also do the following:

1. Make sure you are on the desktop, it doesn't matter which icon.
2. Press Control+Spacebar to unselect the icon you are on
3. Press application key or Shift+F10
4. Arrow down to "New" or press "w"
5. Arrow down to "Shortcut" and press enter
6. In the "Type a location" enter your drive letter followed by a colon, e.g. d: or e:, tab to Next and press space
7. In the "Enter a name for the shortcut" type what you want to call it, e.g. DVD Drive" or "USB Drive", tab to Finish and press space.

Re: i tunes

Robert Logue

Are you saying you can get at all the areas of Itunes by using tab and the arrow keys and it behaves predictably?

I ask because Jaws and Itunes don't make sense to me.  I've tried changing various recommend settings.

Jaws 18 also stops talking at times.

I've used Itunes for years. This is about the worst version to me.I keep using it because I have Apple Music subscription and an iPhone.

It seems like most vips think it's OK.

I also use iTunes with JAWS 2018 on a Windows 10 computer, and I don’t have any access problems, so I’m not sure what’s going on.

windows 10?

I can not find the list of my songs. I wish to make play list on my IPhone.

Re: Ccleaner and jaws

Hi,

I use C cleaner all the time and think it’s a good program, however I would advise if unfamiliar  with PC’s not to play around with the registry cleaner and the tools, since some of these features allow you to make changes which could affect how your PC runs. I think if you are running windows 10 the built in disk cleaner  is more advanced than previous versions of windows and probably does just as good a job of cleaning than C cleaner .

Hi:

Does any body know of a good tutorial for using ccleaner with Jaws?

Thank you, thank you for the warning about installing Avas.

Have a good day.

I am having trouble creating a rule in Outlook Express to put messages that come from the Jaws listserve into a folder. The e-mail address that I am using to send messages to the Jaws listserve and trying to use in the rule is jfw@groups.io. Can anyone help me use the correct rule so I can put Jaws messages into its own folder and not filling up my Inbox.
