Hi, Actually, you can log in either via Facebook or Google (the latter is useful for those who have a Gmail account). Good luck. Cheers, Joseph

Those who prefer to be in digest mode may also want to know that they can fix themselves, by clicking on the link to change subscription preferences, at the bottom of each email that has already been sent. If a password is prompted for, and they do not already have one, they can click that they either forgot password, or do not have one. They then enter an email address, where a link to reset the password will be sent. After that, they can log in and change their preference to digest mode. This is the approach I took.

You can. The feed is public, as are the archives, so you don't even need to be subscribed if all you're doing is reading. Though it helps.

Re: Windows 10 question
empacc.net
hi david:
you actually got your jaws versions
transposed.
the jaws version 16 should be either:
jaws 16.0.4350, or:
jaws 16.0.4463, or:
the latest version of jaws 17 which
is:
jaws17.0.1214.
just clarifying, is all.
don't want anyone to be confused.
take care.

Subject: Re: Windows 10 question Hi Lauren,
You can upgrade without sighted help. You should install JAWS 17 first.
Then, download the Tool from FS that will allow you to get rid of all previous
JAWS versions from your computer along with shared components. The only version
you should have on your computer is Version 17. If you want, You could also have
version 16.0.1214. That will also work on Windows 10. Also, you will want to
download the media creation tool from the MS page and save it to your computer.
Make sure that you don’t run the media creation tool until you run that FS tool
to get rid all versions of JAWS off your computer except 16.0.1214 and JAWS 17.
Now, you can run the media creation tool to install win 10. Just press enter on
the tool and press enter on upgrade this pc. JAWS will still be working. Once
you get through some screens, JAWS will go quiet and this is when you wait an
hour or more to let win10 download to your computer. It is around 3 gigs. After
an hour, just turn on Narrator by pressing windows key + enter. You will be able
to finish the install with Narrator. Now, since you have Windows 8, it should
install fine after the first time. It is upgrading from Windows 7 that causes
the trouble and it takes a few times. I upgraded from Windows 8.1, and it took
me one time of running the media creation tool, and win10 installed great the
first time. This is really important. When win10 installs and JAWS comes back
talking, it is good to uninstall JAWS and reinstall JAWS. If you do this, even
upgrading from win 8 or 8.1, you will get much better results from JAWS from
then on out. Please email me if you have any questions. It is easy, and once
win10 is on your computer, I can really help you get everything adjusted so you
have the best experience using win10. You will love it and never want to go
back. I will be thinking about you as you upgrade. Email me as soon as you have
any questions. Take care, David Moore.

Everyone has been moved over successfully from the old list. I'll now be working with the groups.io folks to get our archives moved over. If there are issues with the new list, feel free to address them with me at your convenience.
Moderator candidates, I will be getting in touch with those I've chosen later in the week. It was supposed to have been done by now, but unforseen complications have put a bit of a kink in that plan.

Re: Netflix not accessible to blind people using a laptop and screen reading software.
Joshua Hori
Hello Dennis, I performed the same tests in Chrome that I performed in Firefox and was able to access the content in exactly the same way. Unfortunately, Audio Descriptions is the LAST link available in the links list instead of the first one (replacing the “Skip Content” link with the “Audio Description” link would be nice). The reason that you have better experiences in Chrome than Firefox is cause Chrome allows Microsoft Silverlight to run within the browser without confirmation, while Firefox requires you to activate Silverlight. I would like to state at this point that with Chrome, you can’t access the player controls while you can in Firefox (Play/Pause only though, attempting to access the other controls just pauses/plays the media). NETFLIX WORKFLOW WITH SCREENREADER: - Pull up links list (Insert+F7) and type “AU” to quickly navigate to the Audio Descriptions link. If it doesn’t read audio descriptions aloud, tap up once and then down once, you’ll hear it read by JAWS then. o You can also just tap on the “A” key to jump between URL’s that start with “A”, but there could be A LOT of links that start with “A”. - Pull up links list (Insert+F7) and arrow down through the list of multimedia. o Press enter on the title you would like to view - Pull up the headers list (Insert+F6) and hit enter on the one displayed (There should only be one available, which is the title of the media you want to review) - Press Tab once to access “Play link” and press enter - Enjoy your content! Once the show has started, you will have access to the slider bar to fast forward and rewind the media (hit tab once or twice, you can only navigate between the address bar, a Netflix statement, and the slider bar), but you will not be able to access player controls. The only way to get back to the previous page is to hit Alt+Left Arrow. WORD OF WARNING: Not all media in the Audio Description links have audio descriptions applied. I tested the TV show “Black Mirrors” and “Going Blind” and found audio descriptions, with the “Going Blind” show having audio descriptions that cut off quickly sometimes. I tested the movie “Gladiator” and “National Treasure” and found very detailed audio descriptions available. I tested the TV shows “The Office” and “Parks and Recreation” and the audio descriptions are not available.
Enjoy!
Joshua

Hello Joshua, Your post is very helpful, since you are able to see what is actually occurring on the screen and how Jaws is handling the web page content and controls. If you have time, can you try accessing Netflix using the latest Chrome which should be 46.xx. Many of us have been finding that Chrome is giving us better access than IE or Firefox. Your help is greatly appreciated. Best, Dennis
