ITunes&Jaws: Remembering last position button not reading right

Gerardo Corripio <gera1027@...>

HI guys: Using Jaws12 with ITunes 10.2 and BlindTunes; especially in
audiobooks I like to set the Remember last Position button to checked so
when I resume the book I won't have to fast forward on my Ipod (or in ITunes
depending where I'm listening) to get where I was. Because I haven't tried
it before installing BlindTunes that's why I'm asking do you guys find that
with Jaws12 and BlindTunes the Remember Position button doesn't get read,
having to use the Jaws cursor to click it on or off? Also more weird why
when the audiobook is in Music the remember position button works OK, but
when I move the file to Audiobook it stops working, making an error sound in
ITunes like I pressed an invalid command. Any ideas? Has this also happened
to you guys since iTunes 10, or does it have nothing to do with the new
ITunes, being something else?

Gerardo

I have heard of people using the default Windows 7 speech recognition engine. I've heard it is not quite as good as Naturally Speaking 10.
I have Dragon Naturally Speaking 10, and intend to install Version 11 tomorrow.
I'm told it is the same engine that Siri uses on the iPhone. If so, then I wouldn't settle for anything less.
On my iPhone, Siri has made a total of 2 mistakes in the 5 weeks since I've had her. Vastly, vastly, vastly, vastly, vastly better than Dragon Naturally Speaking 10.
I'll let you know after installation.
Your friend will need a headset microphone, but she gets one for free with the Pro version (perhaps Preferred too).
Allegedly, no training is needed for Version 11. The training was the main reason for J-SAY.
I used to use J-SAY, but the security settings in my law firm made it impossible successfully to install J-SAY. So, I bought it for nothing, and haven't tried it for at least 3 years. Naturally Speaking works just fine without J-SAY.

Oh cool. Thanks I thought you had to use Jay say with Dragon, so I didn't
recommend it for her. It will take her hand a while to recover, as she has
to have surgery. A long term solution like Dragon Naturally Speaking might
be a good option for her. Thanks again. I will let her know.

Re: Itunes

Gary King

Howard,
iTunes was just examining the folders on your drive so that it could list your music in its library. It wasn't moving anything. I don't know any way to get the process started again. You can import individual folders using options on the Files Menu.

You may benefit from listening to 3 podcasts from Freedom Scientific. Go to the web site and look for the FSCast link. If you read through the list of podcasts, you will find that FSCasts 49 and 50 are concerned with using iTunes with JFW, and FsCast 59 is an interview with John Martin, the author of the Blind Tunes scripts.

As for the Blind Tunes scripts, Insert+q should give the version number of the scripts. Maybe you have a bad installation. There is a form for contacting John Martin on the page where you got the scripts. Also, John may be monitoring the list and can come to your rescue.

Hi Karen et al,
When I thought iTunes was taking over, i stopped it; rather stupid, don't you think. Now I need to figure out how to get it to finish the job--whatever it was doing.

I installed "blindtunes" but now when I run iTunes and do a JAWSKey plus q, it still says default scripts are loaded. It seems that, for some reason, jaws isn't finding the blindtunes scripts. Does that need to be fixed, huh? Thanks.

Re: Itunes

Hi,

I'll have to try this. That raises another question is iTunes incapable of
burning the song titles to the CD like Windows media player can do? I
created a compilation CD of many different artist's and none of the song
titles were burned to the CD.

Hi,

No, that's what I'm saying iTunes doesn't do anything with this CD. All the
rest of the CD's I have put in that are store bought iTunes went and asked
something like do I want to add this CD to the library. And then I got
around to looking at iTunes and I never found an option to make iTunes to go
and access the CD player.

hmm i'd probably suggest running the iTunes install again.

If you want to start over from scratch, the detailed uninstallation instructions are at this link:

i have no idea what iTunes was doing when you tried installing it before,
because you didn't tell us what steps you took, how you answered any
questions posed by the installer, etc.
Blindtunes installs automatically into the correct settings folders when you
run the installer that you downloaded.

If you have more than one version of Jaws installed, make sure you select
the version you want when asked by the installer. The same goes for
language.
Besides that, clicking Next a couple times and accepting the license
agreement is all you have to do.

I installed "blindtunes" but now when I run iTunes and do a JAWSKey
plus q, it still says default scripts are loaded. It seems
that, for
some reason, jaws isn't finding the blindtunes scripts. Does
that need
to be fixed, huh? Thanks.

Re: amazon.com Jaws 11

Adrian Spratt

To get to the "add to cart" button, you'd probably need to press b for
button instead of c. I don't do it that way and I don't use Amazon's
accessible site, since I find the regular site completely accessible. That's
why I'm being tentative. The way I do it is to search for the word "cart."

Are you working with an English language version of the website?

Hello Miriam,

Well put. I feel suitably chastised. So I'll give you my perspective.

There's a perfectly good training tool for learning how to use the web
called "Surf's Up" on the FS site and also in the help/web resources menu
from JAWS. I recommend that to anyone who has a need to learn basic
navigation on the web, like Insert+F7 to bring up a list of links.

I don't mind pointing people to that training tool and give advice on how
to
navigate using JAWS. However I do draw the line when someone just whines
about not being able to do something on such-and-such a web site and
hoping
that someone will jump in and tell them what to do -- problem is that the
originator has not told us specifically just what they are having trouble
with.

To wit, here's the original request, and please tell me what I should have
told him/her to do:

"I'm trying to order audio cd from amazon ,my cousin show me how to order
from amazom.com last week ago !! I have try to order audio cd but I forgot
how to do it!! Does anybody know how to tell me how to order audio cd from
amazon.com website? I really need your help to tell me how to do it with
jaws!! I'm using jaws 11,window xp desktop computer with home edition. I
will appreciate any help and answer from anybody."

Okay, I'll give you a hint. The question we need to actually answer is
this
part:

"Does anybody know how to tell me how to order audio cd from
amazon.com website?"

The answer is either "No." or the answer I gave:

"Click on the item you want. Add to shopping cart. Go to checkout. Give
them
your credit card."

Other than my additional snide comments, I thought my answer was eloquent
and precise. I certainly have no way to know what his/her cousin told
him/her to do, do I?

Subject: Introducing Jaws Scripts for Peachtree Complete Accounting, and Seeking Testers

Hello,

This is an open call for beta testers for the soon to be released "Jaws
Scripts for Peachtree".  More can be learned about this at:

www.scriptsforjaws.com

Peachtree Complete Accounting is the leading bookkeeping, accounting and CRM
software.  More can be learned about Peachtree from the review of it by "Top
Ten Reviews" at:

http://accounting-software-review.toptenreviews.com/peachtree-review.html

Beta testers will receive a full copy of Peachtree Complete Accounting 2012
as well as a full set of the scripts.  These are commercial quality scripts
developed in conjunction with Virtual Vision Technologies (VVT).  VVT is the
one and only specifically named third party commercial script writing
company by Freedom Scientific on its own webpage.  Positions are limited, so
do not miss out!

Thank you,

Richard
