windows updates windows 10 help

Marvin Hunkin <neilmarvin@...>

Hi, had to run the windows update windows 10 trouble shooter, and said there were pending updates, in windows 7, you were able to customize and have notifications in the system tray, is that feature avliable in windows 10, and did use the gpedit.msc, and then where to and did find windows updates, and enabled a couple of settings, but still said no. also have not been getting windows defender update notifications. Any one able to help me to configure, so, I get the notification, for windows updates, do have it in action centre and do check manually for updates every day, and also get the notification, settings, Microsoft account needs fixing, and is there a way, to fix this, happens everyday I login, very annoying or do I just turn that off.

Any windows 10 help.

Thanks.

Ps: just want to get the latest updates and also do have it check for otherupdates, and got Microsoft office.

Thanks..

I just tested this with JAWS 2018, and could not reproduce the issue. Can you update JAWS to 2018 and try again?

Hi All,

I am running the final release of JAWS 17, and have the most current Windows 10 updates.

In Google Chrome, when I press the alt key, arrow to settings and press enter, JAWS says “entering forms mode”, JAWS does that click sound to confirm entering forms mode.  But from that moment on, JAWS is silent when I try to access the Chrome settings section.  Any suggestions?

strange jfw.exe application error

Marvin Hunkin <neilmarvin@...>

hi. Currently rebuilding an old hangman game, self voicing. Did for a degree for website  in 2012, as part of the  subject build a gui, well, the console hangman, you load the game, you have jean-luc picard from star trek the next generation say resistance is futile, from the episode the best of both worlds part 1, then the david voice has a message saying how to play the game, then the game starts. You have a turn based, enter a letter, press enter for turn number 1, then press enter and a lazer sound goes off, you do this for 13 letters, then the game says you won, you have a bugle go off and tells you the word, from a random list, and a txt file with letters, if you lose, an alarm goes off, then you have the option to quit, press 1 or press enter to play again, if you press 1, you hear jean-luc picard say end program, and then a message saying press any key to exit, so I press, and then have jaws 2018 running, then it pops up a message on screen, saying jfw.exe application error, application failed to start properly. Only get this message, when I exit the game, any programming gurus on here, or can tell me why. Using Microsoft visual studio 2017 community 32 bit on windows 10 64 bit pro 1709 on a Toshiba satellite pro c-50- a laptop.

Only happens with this issue.

And did the game in visual basic.

And using the windows 10 default david mobile voice for windows 10.

Chat later.

Hi Sieghard,

I don't know what to say except for what I stated earlier.  Running 1709, & Windows + Enter, works, Control, Windows, + Enter did not.  Who knows why keystrokes work for some, & some keystrokes don't work for others.  This wouldn't be the 1st time!  LOL

Hi Mike,

You might want to type “Winver” into the run dialogue or the windows search field and press enter. This will display your version of Windows. As Chris pointed out, the shortcut to start Narrator has changed with the Creator’s update this spring, it used to be Windows+Enter but now is Windows Key+Control+Enter. I believe Windows Key+Control+U also works.

I really can’t see how Windows Key+Enter still works if you are on version 1703 (Creator’s Update) or 1709 (Fall Creator’s Update).

You can now run narrator during windows 10 installation

Therefore sighted help to install windows is not required as the setup screens are now accessible with narrator

Re: showing unread emails Outlook 2016

Sieghard Weitzel <sieghard@...>

Hi Pablo,

Do a Shift+Tab when you are in your Inbox and bingo, you’ll be on the “All” button. Activate it with spacebar and a menu pops up, Unread mail is the first choice. Below is a copy of the Jaws speech history when I did this:

Comment: I was on your message in my Inbox and pressed Shift+Tab, then what is next is from the speech history:

All Button

Comment: I now pressed the spacebar to activate the button

Menu, Unread Mail R

Comment: I now use down arrow to go through the rest of the menu choices:

Mentioned Mail E

Arrange By sub menu A

Reverse Sort R

Show as Conversations checked H

Show in Groups W

Show Focused Inbox W

View Settings... V

All Mail checked M

The letters behind each item are the shortcuts.

If you Shift tab once again from the All button you get to an item called “Current Mailbox sub menu”, you can explore the options in that menu yourself and if you shift tab again you are on the “submit search” button, and again you are in the search edit field.

Of course if you want to search for an email either by typing part of the sender, subject or a word or phrase you know is in the email body you can tab once instead of shift tab a bunch of time or use the Control+E shortcut.

I did a complete Windows 10 install from USB media with Narrator and it worked perfectly including deleting all partitions, creating a new partition and formatting it.
The main trick is to wait long enough after the installation starts before you try Windows Key+Control+Enter. It would be nice if Microsoft could give some sort of audio beep or a spoken message saying that you can now press Windows Key+Control+Enter if you want to continue setup with Narrator.

Also, Narrator only works during the installation process in version 1709 or later. Once you’ve completed the operating system installation, you can install JAWS.

I haven’t installed Microsoft Windows on a machine, but I have set up a new laptop, “out of the box”, with Narrator, then installed JAWS using Internet Explorer, then installed Chrome and firefox with JAWS, and so on.

Regards,

Sieghard

Hi Chris,

I don't know what version of Widows 10 you're installing, but I'm running the latest, & the keystroke, Windows key + Enter, toggles Narrator on & off. Don't get me wrong because what's working for you is working, but if your computer updates after you get Widows 10 installed keepthe the, Windows key + Enter, keystroke in mind for future reference.

Hello all,

I am trying to get all my unread emails in my outlook 2016, but I can’t find how to do that. On the office support web page says In the list of message, click on the all drop-down and click on Unread. I have no clue how to click on the all drop-down on the email list.

Hi,

Yes, then to toggle speech modes, you need Insert+S.

Hi, Vic. INSERT plus SPACE followed by S doesn’t turn Speech on Demand on or off. What SHIFT plus SPACE followed by S does is:

If Speech on Demand is already invoked, INSERT plus SPACE followed by S will toggle between Speech on Demand and Speech Mute. If you are currently in Full Speech mode, INSERT plus SPACE followed by S will say:

Not Available In Full Speech Mode.

Insert+Space, S to toggle between “speech on demand” and “full speech”. When in Speech on Demand mode, Insert+Space, Shift+S to toggle between speech on demand and speech entirely turned off (“speech mute”, as it’s called).
