Hi Alton,

Not a recommendation in that I haven't read it myself, but Cathy Anne
Murtha, who trades as the Access Technology Institute, does Office manuals
aimed at screen reader users and I've heard good feedback about them in
general.

There is one on Word 2016 with JAWS. I don’t know which version of JAWS is
used, but the link below leads to a table of contents which details the
functionality covered.

Good morning,

Can anyone recommend a really good, comprehensive tutorial for using
Microsoft Word 2016 with JAWS 18?

Something that deals with beginner and advanced functionality, and
everything in between, as well as keyboard shortcuts?

Thanks for any feedback you can provide.

If you haven't, try tabbing to the link, then right click or use shift-f10 and see if you find something like copy location, copy shortcut, etc.

i've been an Openbook user since it started, and I joined the private beta team about 11 years ago. There hasn't been any beta activity in several years. It also stopped working on my Windows 10 machine and they have no idea why, uninstalling and reinstalling did not help.
I cannot recommend OpenBook any longer as I see no evidence that they are doing squat with it.
It seems to me they are putting all their eggs in the Convenient OCR basket.

Does it produce better scanning results over a flat bed scanner?

I never had any luck with Chrome under Jaws 16, as far as I know these two are actually not working together.
I know you said before you use Jaws in demo mode, couldn't you download Jaws 2018 and run it in demo mode, I think you would be much happier with the results.

Hi good people:
I am having a very odd problem with my google chrome browser.
Each time I attempt to open a site, the browser crashes. Before now, I was having problems with opening a link in a new window, that is through an Email or another web page.
But the problem has now worssened. i cannot do anything with the browser right now.
I've tried out using the chrome cleaner, which I downloaded, but it hasn't worked.
I attempted doing a re-set of the settings, when I could, but it didn't change anything.
Please has anyone ever had this problem? if you have, how did you get around the issue.
I started experiencing this problem when I installed the extended support release for firefox. But I don't believe this could have been the cause of this problem.
I use windows 7 32 bit: JAWS 16.
Looking forward to reading from anyone.
I am Ibrahim.

Re: Problems With Google Chrome

Jason White

It's working well for me (JAWS 2018, 64-bit Windows 10 system). Could you check what version of Chrome you have installed and whether it was updated recently? On Windows 10, you'll find the latter details under Apps and Features, but I can't remember where it is on Windows 7.

You could also try uninstalling Chrome, then re-installing it. Another option would be to find its configuration files and delete them. In addition, scan your system for viruses just in case that's the issue.

I'm also running Firefox ESR.

Subject: Problems With Google Chrome

Hi,

Did VFO ever fix the issue that prevented users from activating their copy of JAWS?

For months now, I couldn’t activate jaws 2018.

I was essentially stuck in 40-minute mode.

Hi Alton,

Not a recommendation in that I haven't read it myself, but Cathy Anne Murtha, who trades as the Access Technology Institute, does Office manuals aimed at screen reader users and I've heard good feedback about them in general.

There is one on Word 2016 with JAWS. I don’t know which version of JAWS is used, but the link below leads to a table of contents which details the functionality covered.

Good morning,

Can anyone recommend a really good, comprehensive tutorial for using Microsoft Word 2016 with JAWS 18?

Something that deals with beginner and advanced functionality, and everything in between, as well as keyboard shortcuts?

Thanks for any feedback you can provide.

There are route reasons why you might choose open book. I have Kurzweil 1000. But I like the idea of just being able to take a picture quickly and read it inside of jaws. That is why I purchased it. I asked them about open book and there are no plans to discontinue that product.

Anyone got any experience with using the Pearl Camera versus a flat bed
scanner for use with Jaws 2018? Just got the notice that the Pearl
camera is on sale for users of Jaws 2018. Is the Pearl easier to use?
Does it produce better scanning results over a flat bed scanner?
Thanks

I do have a touch screen laptop.  I do not knowingly have the onscreen keyboard turned on.  I’ll try to investigate.  With my bit of vision, I have never noticed it, but who knows!

Hi all,

I’m running Windows 10 on my laptop with JAWS 2018.  I have it set to require a password to login.  If I leave my computer and come back later to type in my password, I hear a sound effect kind of like an ascending tone on a slide whistle and a voice says “Touch keyboard”.  I also notice that the voice I’m hearing on parts of the login screen are different from the normal voice I use.  All reverts to normal as I am loaded into my user profile of Windows.

What does JAWS mean by “Touch keyboard” and the sound effect?   Any idea why the voice changes?  Robin
