I do have a touch screen laptop. I do not knowingly have the onscreen keyboard turned on. I’ll try to investigate. With my bit of vision, I have never noticed it, but who knows!

Hi all, I’m running Windows 10 on my laptop with JAWS 2018. I have it set to require a password to login. If I leave my computer and come back later to type in my password, I hear a sound effect kind of like an ascending tone on a slide whistle and a voice says “Touch keyboard”. I also notice that the voice I’m hearing on parts of the login screen are different from the normal voice I use. All reverts to normal as I am loaded into my user profile of Windows.
What does JAWS mean by “Touch keyboard” and the sound effect? Any idea why the voice changes? Robin

Yes, the Pearl camera works with JAWS 2018. I ordered one yesterday. I received an email and I also had a JAWS notice. That is why it is on sale for $295.00 right now. I tried to enter the code but it didn't work so I called VFO and ordered it. Hopefully, it will come soon.

Don and all,

Using JAWS 2018 latest build, I just gave my Pearl camera a trial run. Quite impressive, and yes it may signal the end of any future Openbook support. That is somewhat unfortunate, as Openbook has a very rich set of features in settings and configurations. I'll keep my Openbook 8 and 9 copies for as long as they run on Windows. However that aside, OCR using the Pearl camera or a connected flatbed does offer a very convenient way to scan physical document on demand without needing Openbook. Also note that it is now possible to recognize many document types right from the file listing in Windows Explorer, which to me, is a much more significant improvement in the Convenient OCR application. But again, I don't see anywhere that the Pearl camera can be used with other mainstream applications as an input device. Therein lies my continuing criticism. Yes, I see that now. However, more to my point, is that the Pearl camera still cannot be used with other scanning applications, as in the case of Epson or other flatbed scanner hardware. That's where the real value of the Pearl camera would shine. VFO seems to want to keep that piece of hardware proprietary to their own software -- kind of an Apple paradigm. with an SMA, you are basically prepaying to be allowed to upgrade for free when the upgrade becomes available. for example, you start with version 2018 and when 2019 comes out, you can upgrade as opposed to having to pay a bit more to upgrade to version 2019.

Hi Christi,
I've just answered the same question for another person on the list with a link to a full guide.
Additionally, if you want to find out more about the ribbon, a good starting point might be the link below. It goes to an explanation of the ribbon as used in File Explorer on Windows 8, but I think the navigation is the same, or at least similar, for Word 2016.

Hej! I have a quick survey here. I know that JAWS has a pre-set limit of 125 characters for ALT Texts, but I wonder: – How many of you actually know that the settings can be adjusted? – Also, how many users change the settings? In other words, is it common for JAWS users to change the settings?
