I would be interested to know whether it's possible to save the images and process them with another application. I suspect not, but I don't know for sure.

According to what I've read, JAWS 2018 can now use the camera directly in its OCR function. I haven't bought one, but I did notice the VFO advertisement. I'm particularly interested in scanning printed mail, and I may also need reliable book scanning in the future.

Re: Pearl camera
HH. Smith Jr.
Hi,

I have used the Pearl camera from the time it came out for purchase. It was half the price as an introductory offer. The camera works real great and I had no complaints except for its fragility. It is great for its portability, picture rendering abilities and it does function as advertised. I guess it is all that and a bag of chips. Now the cons, in the past before this sale, I suggested to my consumers not to acquire one due to the cost at over 1200bucks. For my consumers, it was a whole lot cheaper to go on EBay and purchase a portable flatbed scanner for under 100bucks and get the same functionality at an extremely lower cost. The camera is just what it is, portable camera. The portable scanner was just as practical and thin enough to fit in a laptop bag and consume about the same amount of space on your desk as an opened Pearl camera scanning a sheet of paper. I've personally haven't seen the new price; but the purchasing of the Pearl camera is a choice of preference in my opinion. Let's face it the purchasing of adaptive technologies is economics first followed by functionality coupled with practicability; Also, some portable flatbed scanners has more features than just scanning that can be helpful in other areas as far as independent computing. Bottom line get as much bang for your bucks.

JAWS announcing Touch keyboard
Van Lant, Robin
Hi all, I’m running Windows 10 on my laptop with JAWS 2018. I have it set to require a password to login. If I leave my computer and come back later to type in my password, I hear a sound effect kind of like an ascending tone on a slide whistle and a voice says “Touch keyboard”. I also notice that the voice I’m hearing on parts of the login screen are different from the normal voice I use. All reverts to normal as I am loaded into my user profile of Windows.
What does JAWS mean by “Touch keyboard” and the sound effect? Any idea why the voice changes? Robin

Re: scheduling assistance outlook 2016
Van Lant, Robin
I would be curious if there is something that works with speech. The Scheduling Assistant lists the meeting attendees down the left side and uses colors to show whether attendees are available at a given time. There is a vertical bar that depicts where your suggested meeting time is, as the hours of the day are listed from left to right across the top of the chart. I have found with Window Eyes that if I can get the mouse pointer where that bar is, Window Eyes will sometimes read a list of the attendees and whether they are free or busy, but I’m using my tunnel of remaining vision to do this. I do not yet have JAWS loaded on my work laptop where I do group scheduling to know how well this works with JAWS.
There is also a right sidebar that will suggest times and report as to how many attendees are available, but I find this rather pointless. It will toss out times where only 1 person can make it. I have yet to find any sort of tool that will suggest the first available time when all your attendees are available. I do a lot of scheduling and am convinced that, when my remaining vision is gone, I’ll need to have an executive admin do any scheduling for me – unless one of you power users out there can tell me it works with JAWS somehow.

Re: Navigating the audible.com site with jaws

Morning,
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
Agree about the navigation issues with the Audible site. One simple thing that bother me was the labeling of the button to confirm a purchase. Not recalling that label at the moment, but it had nothing to do with what the button was meant to do. I mention this as I called support and reported it. Though it took about six weeks or so, they eventually relabeled it. I am sure you hear the note at the top of the sites pages that they are making efforts to improve the site for screen readers. I have not seen any changes that have improved functionality. I think that it is time that we screen reader users start a little campaign to keep this issue at the fore. I love the sight and have figured little work arounds, but given that it is owned by Amazon, there should be enough funding to make the site truly accessible. If we are emailing support, what about coming up with a subject line that we all use with our suggestion? Same could be done if we call. Any ideas? Rick
