Hi good people:
I have actually downloaded the extended support release 52.5, and it
is set up and running.
But I am still not able to use firefox. The bookmarks are working
normally, but when I activate a web page, it doesn't open. At the
begining, when firefox launches, I get the message that the program is
not compatible with my screen reader. So, how do I switch to ESR that
is extendede support release.
Please kindly help me understand what to do here to get the program
firefox workingg.
Thanks and kind regards.
Ibrahim.

Hmm, not sure why that is, it always was as simple as opening the OneDrive
application and signing in with my Microsoft Id for me. You then have a
chance to specify a location where you want the OneDrive folder just as with
Dropbox, by default it's in your user folder, and I think that's pretty much
it.
I am quite sure if you want to set it up that Microsoft Accessibility can
easily help you with that. I have an Office 365 subscription both a Home
subscription which I share with my wife and Mom as well as a Business
Premium subscription for my business, both come with 1 Tb of storage so it
would of course be silly to pay for Dropbox Premium or whatever they call it
when I already have all the storage I could want and I would have the Office
365 subscription anyways because I need access to Outlook, Excel and
occasionally some of the other Office apps.
The Office 365 subscription is one of the best deals around considering all
it includes.

Yes, works fine with Jaws. Do you mean you couldn't enable screenshots or
you couldn't set up OneDrive at all?
Here is how I enable the screenshots:

1. Jaws Key+F11 to bring up the sys tray items, arrow to OneDrive and press
enter 2. Arrow down to Settings and press enter, for some reason sometimes
this just puts me back at the top of the menu and I have to arrow to
Settings a second time and press enter, then Settings opens.
3. I am always in the Account tab on "Add Account" so I do a Shift+tab to
get to the tabs and they are as follows (I use speech history from here
on):

Settings Tab Account Tab Auto Save Tab Network Tab Office Tab About Tab
Account Tab - just did a "say word" to show what has focus Auto Save Tab -
just did a right arrow to go there Now I tab and it reads the items in the
Auto Save tab, the first items, Pictures and Documents have two options,
"OneDrive" or "This PC Only"
Note, however, that I believe these options only exist with Windows 10 when
you are logged in with a Microsoft account, on my Windows 7 PC it goes
straight to the "save pictures automatically" item for when you connect a
phone or USB stick.
As you can see the last item before you get to "OK" is the checkbox for
automatically capture screenshots to OneDrive.
Desktop, Documents and Pictures Pictures Combo box This PC only
2 of 2

Photos and videos Automatically save photos and videos to OneDrive whenever
I connect a camera, phone, or other device to my PC check box not checked

If you use either Dropbox or OneDrive then the easiest way is to enable
screenshots in one of those services. Then simply pressing PrintScreen will
take a screenshot and save it to a folder of your choosing as a PNG file.

Hi good people:
I joined the group not too long ago, but I've not been posting.
I sent a post two days ago, wanting to know if anyone had solutions to the
problem I am having with my web browser firefox and JAWS. From the
responses I read to other people's posts, I learnt that the problem is a
general problem. It is a problem that appears to defy solutions for now.
I have new issues, which I will like fellow members to please kindly help me
address.
I am having problems with screenshots. When I do a screenshot of a web page
using the print screen key on my laptop, and copy and paste it into the
pint submenu, and subsequently send it, I am informed by the receipient that
the screenshot is not visible. I've tried it several times, and the problem
remains the same. I use firefox with it. I also use JAWS 16.
Please how can I fix this problem of screenshots not being visible.
What can I do to make the screenshots visible.
Added to this, does anyone use snagit from techsmith? how is it used to do a
screenshot of a webpage.
Looking forward to reading from you chaps.
I am Ibrahim Ajayi.

Re: the touch cursor

Mario

just to clear up some confusion you may have, that which JAWS calls
touch cursor is primarily what others would call object navigation. In
other words, instead of physically navigating the screen with a mouse,
or emulation thereof, you navigate the screen by objects. The use with
touch screens is also possible, but it's mainly a navigation feature for
operating systems where the JAWS cursor does not provide info anymore,
or where other methods of hooking into the system to expose
accessibility info must be used instead.

any comments, anybody?

You move with left and right arrows, up and down arrows change the
element you move by similar to turning the rotor in iOS and then swiping.
Did you know that Jaws has built-in help topics?
Just press Jaws Key+J to bring up the Jaws menu, go to Help and expand
it, go to Help Topics and press enter.
You can read the topic "About Jaws cursors" in the Introduction Book, if
it's not open expand it with right arrow, then arrow to "About Jaws
cursors", press enter on it and then F6 to jump into the reading screen
where you can read the explanations.
For more details use F6 again to jump back to the table of content, find
the "Using Jaws Book" and expand it, now go down to the "About Jaws
Cursors Book", expand it and go to the "Using the Touch Cursor" topic.
Again press enter and then F6 and read the information.
If you haven't spend time in these Help Topics I highly recommend you
look through all the books and topics, there is a ton of information
there and often very good explanations about how certain features of
Jaws work.
The only keystrokes you really need are the right arrow, down arrow,
enter and F6.

Alan Robbins <alan1057@...>

For some odd reason, I do not experience this problem. Read the article you referenced below but did not change anything as all seems to be working ok. Only time I may have seen this is when I was remotely connected with Microsoft accessibility. When the agent rebooted my machine she said to type in my pin and I said I was not at the log in screen yet as I had not heard JAWS. She said I was at the log in screen and it was waiting for my pin. I just assumed this had to do with being remotely connected but maybe it is the problem you speak of below. However, this is the only time it happened.

You can do this in your email account settings:

  1. Open Outlook backstage (ALT-F)
  2. Focus is on the “Info” category, navigate into the options with TAB and SHIFT-TAB
  3. Focus on and activate “Account Settings”
  4. This opens a drop-down list. Within the drop-down list, activate “Account Settings”

This opens the Account Settings dialog.

  1. Within the dialog, navigate with TAB and SHIFT-TAB until focus is on the list of email accounts
  2. Use UP and DOWN ARROW to select the account you’d like to edit
  3. Press SHIFT-TAB until you locate the “Change” button and activate it with SPACEBAR

This opens the settings dialog for the selected email account

  1. Locate and activate the “More Settings” button on this dialog
  2. This opens the “Internet Email Settings” dialog
  3. the first property sheet in the dialog is the “General” property sheet.
  4. The first control of the “General” property sheet is an edit field through which you can change the name of your email account
  5. Input your name and save the changes with the OK button
  6. Save the changes in the individual email account settings
  7. Activate the “Close” button of the Account settings

Close Outlook backstage and you’re done! The text you specified will now appear in the From field when you send email.

1. Open Outlook backstage (ALT-F)

2. Navigate the list of options with UP and DOWN ARROW and activate "Options" (T)

This opens the Outlook Options dialog. Within the dialog:

  1. Navigate the list of categories with UP and DOWN ARROW and focus on “Mail”
  2. The options for “Mail” are displayed on the right side of the dialog
  3. Navigate into the Mail options with TAB and SHIFT-TAB. Focus on "Spelling and Autocorrect"
  4. Activate the "Spelling and Autocorrect" button with SPACEBAR

This opens the "Editor Options" dialog

  1. By default, focus is on the "Proofing" options. If you want to make sure you're focused on "Proofing," use UP and DOWN ARROW
  2. When focused on “Proofing,” the proofing options are displayed on the right side of the dialog
  3. Navigate among the Proofing options with TAB and SHIFT-TAB
  4. Locate the "Autocorrect Options" button and activate it with SPACEBAR

This opens the Autocorrect dialog.

This dialog contains several property sheets. Navigate among the property sheets with CTRL-TAB and CTRL-SHIFT-TAB. The “Autoformat as you Type” property sheet is the third property sheet so you should only have to press this command twice.

You can make sure you're on the right property sheet by  using SHIFT-TAB until focus is on the property sheet tab. You want to make sure focus is on "Autoformat as you Type." There is also an "Autoformat" property sheet but it isn't the same.

when focused in the “Autoformat as you Type” property sheet, navigate among the options with TAB and SHIFT-TAB. Locate the following two options:

  • Automatic bulleted lists
  • Automatic numbered lists

These are checkboxes. Toggle the checkboxes on and off with SPACEBAR.

Activate the OK button to save the changes and close the dialog.

This returns focus to the Editor options dialog. Activate the "OK" button to save the changes and close the dialog. Repeat the OK button activation for the Settings dialog and you’re done!

Hi Everyone,

I am having a lot of trouble making this fillable PDF accessible. (Both attached and at this link: https://www.portlandoregon.gov/oni/article/661427 )

Three JAWS users have said it’s not screen reader accessible. Specifically, that JAWS just says “document processing” and does not read the text.

I’ve added tooltips to the form fields, tagged the text, and adjusted the reading
order. The “Read Out Loud” feature in adobe reads everything correctly. I’ve done a lot of research online, including using several guides to create accessible, fillable PDF forms and I’m still stuck.

But when I run the accessibility checker, it does show *something *is off. it asks me to “caption” an “image” and it’s referring to all of page one!

I’m wondering if I tagged something incorrectly or the file size is somehow beyond the capacity of JAWs (which seems unlikely).

Do you have any ideas about what went wrong or how to make it right?

Also, we are hoping to find a company who can create accessible documents and forms so that we know they are accessible the first time, every time. Does anyone have any suggestions for companies that do good work?

We would especially love to use an organization that prioritizes the lived experience of people who need/use assistive technology and one located in or near Portland, Oregon. But we’re open to any suggestions.

Thanks for anything you can offer. I really appreciate your expertise and skill.

Hi Debbie,

Maybe this is different in Office/Outlook 2010, but in the current 2016 version pressing first Alt when focus is on an attachment and then down arrow does what you say, however, it puts you into the “actions” and I have to arrow to the right to get to things like quick print, Save As, Save all attachments etc.

If I use Alt+Down Arrow as a single key combination as in pressing and holding Alt then pressing the down arrow, it opens into more of a context menu and I can down arrow to get to all these options, also doing it this way Jaws doesnot speak all the ribbon shortcuts. Like I said it could be different between these two versions of Office.

Sieghard

I could be completely off here, but whoever is having problems getting the alt + down arrow to work, make sure you are pressing alt and then down arrow. The alt puts you on the attachment tab on the wonderful ribbon, and the down arrow puts you on the attachment menu/choices. It does work in Microsoft 2010. That is what I have on this computer.

Hi Shannon,

I've come across the problem with accessing multiple attachments before, and was able to get around it by turning off a setting in Outlook called Attachment Preview.

Go to the Options dialogue with Alt, F, T.

Press T until you're on Trust Center, then Alt + T to open a second dialogue.

UpArrow once to Attachment Handling, and then Tab to a checkbox labelled Turn Off Attachment Preview and check it.

OK out of both dialogues.

Does that make a difference?

Something is wrong here.

I have an email that has seven attachments. Only one of them is the one I need. There are

6 junk attachments that are jpegs of some signature cards, a couple of html copies of previous messages and one is the pdf I am looking for.

I can’t arrow across or up or down past the second one. I keep getting stuck and Jaws  says focus lost.

I don’t want to have to save all the junk onto my system only to have to print it and sign and re-scan.

This is not the first time this has happened to me.

Even when there is only one real attachment Jaws announces that there are two when I alt tab into the attachments field.

Anyone know why  it would be behaving like this?

Outlook 2010 and Jaws 18 and or Jaws 2018.

Hello,

Don’t believe there is a shortcut for this. You need to go into your email settings and change it there. This is the same place you were at when setting up your email to begin with unless you used the automatic setup in Outlook. You’ll find your account setting under the file tab in the ribbons I believe under info

If you’re in File Explorer, you can change the sorting in the View Ribbon:

  • Open the view Ribbon (ALT-V)
  • Activate the “Sort” command (O)
  • Within the drop-down list, activate the sorting option you’d like to use. In your case, “Date Modified”

The drop-down list closes and the documents are sorted by the selected criteria.

Re: clickable elements on a page not working (Rollback Firefox Suggestion)

CathyAnne Murtha <cathy@...>

If you upgraded to Firefox Quantum (the latest version), it isn't yet supported by JAWS.

You can download and install the previous accessible version. To download the accessible version of Firefox, you can use the links below. They are for the US English version of the browser. If you want to download an International version, I've provided another link below the US English links.

Windows 64 bit:
https://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-esr-latest-ssl&os=win64&lang=en-US

Windows 32 bit:
https://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-esr-latest-ssl&os=win&lang=en-US

Find this version of Firefox in all languages at:
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/all/

If you rollback Firefox, you'll have your familiar interface.

When i press enter on them, nothing changes on the web page. Any ideas how to interact with these buttons? I've tried pressing enter, nothing. I routed jaws to PC and done a left mouse click, nothing. Any ideas guys?

Creating accessible, fillable PDFs?

Johnson, Joanne

I found myself lacking a few things for my contribution to Thanks Giving.

I thought I would order from Instacart and have the missing items delivered to me at work so I had them when I go home.

What an ordeal!

The web page was only navigable with the tab key. None of the quick nav keys worked. It kept edititing the search field when I tried.

I couldn’t seam to get the buffer to come back.

I tried it with Chrome, IE, and Jaws 18 and Jaws 2018.

I have auto forms mode turned off and it is set to manual.

The escape key would not do anything to allow me to read the page. You have to tab your self silly!

And when you press on the very verbosely labelled button for add, a window popps up with the picture of the item.  You have to get that closed to move on. Don’t hit alt f4 because it closes the browser.

Has anyone used this with success? I was getting so frustrated I asked for help to finish.

Is it just me or is that site built badlly?

Is there a trick? I thought this might be a really nice and convenient thing but if it is that hard to do, no way!!

I tried it on the iphone with the app and it was also horrible.

Thanks

Shannon

One thing I truly love about favorites in Explorer is that I can have a
shortcut for it on my desktop. That shortcut takes me right into that
structure
that you, Jed, was talking about. I can cruise around in there, create new
folders, move shortcuts all around as I like to have them, even change
folder
names and favorite names to make them clearer as to why on earth I've saved

them. Is that method possible with Firefox? That's at least one of the
reasons
I've been hanging on to IE, even though people agree it's on its way out.
