Mike, I gather that this app requires Window Eyes or does it operate as
a stand alone app?

Hi Robin,

See if the tip below will help you make the transition to Jaws:
From: dan Thompson
JAWS Quick Key 1.2.0
GW Micro has upgraded the JAWS Quick Key App to version 1.2:

by GW Micro

This script provides a mode to explore the Window-Eyes equivalent of common
JAWS keystrokes. Press the JAWS Quick Key hot key (Insert-P, by default) to
enter the quick key mode. Once in the mode, press a common JAWS keystroke.
If an equivalent Window-Eyes keystroke is found, it will be reported. You
will stay in the Quick Key mode until you press escape, or until focus
changes. If you find JAWS keystrokes that are not mapped correctly, or are
missing when Window-Eyes equivalent hot keys do exist, please contact us at
support@gwmicro.com.

I'm transitioning to JAWS from Window Eyes. I use the WE command to route
mouse pointer to cursor with some frequency with the Insert numpad plus. In
JAWS, this key command is saying something about cursor routed to JAWS
cursor and that does not seem to be what I want. Also, this morning I hit
the Shift Insert and numpad plus key combo and it said some something about
the touch cursor, and my keyboard did not work right after than until I
figured out Escaped get me out of whatever I did.

Can someone help me understand how what I do in Window Eyes translates to
JAWS?

1) What keys do I hit to put the mouse pointer where my typing cursor
is?

2) What is the Insert numpad plus key doing when it says routed to JAWS
cursor and how would I use that?

3) What is happening when I hit Shift Insert numpad plus and when do
you use this?

Much appreciate.

Robin

and it speaks new output as it appears. In case if anyone is

Hi,

Press the Windows key, then type “cmd” without the quotes. You should hear
Command Prompt Desktop App. Now press your applications key or right click
it, and select Run As Administrator. Then you can follow my previous
steps.

But if you don’t use the command prompt, you don’t need to worry about it.

Re: Recommendations for PDF form filling software?

Jason White

Adobe Reader can be used to fill in forms, but you need to ensure that the
PDF forms are carefully constructed and made accessible. Without significant
work, you can't just take an image of a form, convert it to text, and easily
fill it in.

The process of creating accessible PDF forms looks complex - see the details
at
https://webaim.org/techniques/acrobat/forms

For a project last year, a colleague of mine succeeded in doing this, and
the resultant form was accessible to screen reader users.

Shannon, one way I have heard is to find a way to convert the PDF to a Word
document so it becomes editable and then you can "sign" it digitally.
in fact, I think Word (2013, 2016 or 365?) itself has the ability to
access/open/edit a PDF.
another solution I heard is using the Kurzweil 1000 which has many features
other than just being able to open and read PDF files, like signing.
I don't have any directions since I never experienced this dilemma.
I guess it would depend if the source from where the PDF originates from
would allow it since the PDF is being converted to an editable format so you
can fill out and sign it yourself.

Hello all,

It happens often that we are sent either by fax, (which is converted to a
pdf) or by email, pdf forms that need to be filled out and then signed.

Does anyone have any recommendations or tips on dealing with pdfs that are
not natively fillable forms or how to convert them into fillable forms?
Additionally it would be great if it would work with jaws?

I have found a really cool pdf form filler that works on the IOS platform
for those with sight but not at all for the Voice Over user.

I looked in the Windows store for the same app but I didn't see any version
of it.

On the Apple app store it is called adobe fill and sign.

Anyone know of a windows based pdf form filler that works with Jaws?

Thanks

You don't have to be reluctant, but you should not install
from the disk, but go to www.FreedomScientific.com, click on
the downloads link/menu, then arrow to Jaws which is the
first item in the list and activate it. Now find the Jaws
2018.1710.42 download for your machine (either 64 bit or 32
bit) and download it, then install from that since otherwise
you have to instantly update anyways.
Jaws 2018 as all other Jaws versions install completely
independently from Jaws 18 but at the end of the install you
can tell Jaws 2018 to merge the settings from your current
Jaws 18 installation.
Anyhow, this way you can start to use Jaws 2018 and if there
is something you think works better in Jaws 18 you can just
unload Jaws 2018 with Jaws Key+F4 and load Jaws 18 either
with a hotkey you can set up or by typing Windows Key+R
followed by Jaws18 without spaces and press enter.
As far as I am concerned there is little reason to still use
Jaws 18, Jaws 2018 is stabil and runs just as well except
you get to use new features such as Convenient OCR on any
image file (not only PDF) and right from the context/right
click menu in Windows Explorer. You can also start to play
around with Edge if you are using Windows 10, it's not yet
as full-featured of an experience but it works quite well.

Re: What is the trick with multiple attachments in outlook 2010?

If I remember correctly it was much easier in Office 2010 to use the Jaws cursor to find attachments although this may not be the case any more if you are using it with Windows 10 where the Jaws cursor isn't as useful any more as it was with Windows 7.

Hi Bill,

I started this conversation with Outlook 2010 as the email client.

The Alt down arrow will not work for me either on the same email I asked this of. I did do the steps to remove the attachments' preview and now arrowing through the attachment's works.

The only way to get the items that others are referring to with the Alt Down arrow is to use the context menu. That will either be the context key on the keyboard or Shift F10.
Then you will get the choices being talked about.

When I opened the same email in Outlook 2016 the Alt Down key worked as the context key worked in 2016.

(I was using Jaws 2018 on outlook 2010 and jaws 18 on Outlook 2016.)

I hope that helps.

The thing I needed was to turn off that preview thing.

3. Use Right and Left Arrows to advance or go backward through the attachments list.

Demystify the route pointer to cursor for me

Van Lant, Robin

I’m transitioning to JAWS from Window Eyes.  I use the WE command to route mouse pointer to cursor with some frequency with the Insert numpad plus.  In JAWS, this key command is saying something about cursor routed to JAWS cursor and that does not seem to be what I want.  Also, this morning I hit the Shift Insert and numpad plus key combo and it said some something about the touch cursor, and my keyboard did not work right after than until I figured out Escaped get me out of whatever I did.

Can someone help me understand how what I do in Window Eyes translates to JAWS?

1)      What keys do I hit to put the mouse pointer where my typing cursor is?

2)      What is the Insert numpad plus key doing when it says routed to JAWS cursor and how would I use that?

3)      What is happening when I hit Shift Insert  numpad plus and when do you use this?

Much appreciate.

Robin

Hi Bill,

I started this conversation with Outlook 2010 as the email
client.

The Alt down arrow will not work for me either on the same
email I asked this of. I did do the steps to remove the
attachments' preview and now arrowing through the
attachment's works.

The only way to get the items that others are referring to
with the Alt Down arrow is to use the context menu. That
will either be the context key on the keyboard or Shift F10.
Then you will get the choices being talked about.

When I opened the same email in Outlook 2016 the Alt Down
key worked as the context key worked in 2016.

(I was using Jaws 2018 on outlook 2010 and jaws 18 on
Outlook 2016.)

I hope that helps.

The thing I needed was to turn off that preview thing.

Hi, Steve. I am using Outlook 2010. If I open a message, SHIFT plus tab to the attachments list, arrow to one of the attachments and press ALT plus Down Arrow, I get nothing.

What am I doing wrong? Where do I need to be to get these options with ALT plus Down Arrow?

Your help would be appreciated.

Hi Bill,

You can also press Alt Down arrow to open the other options for the attachment, including save.  I don’t use the Alt-F method, because it’s quicker to press alt-Down.

All the best

Steve

Hi, Shannon. I use Windows 10 with JAWS 2018. I am having no trouble reading multiple attachments with Outlook 2010. I do the following.

1. Open Outlook2010.

2. Shift TAB to the attachments list.

3. Use Right and Left Arrows to advance or go backward through the attachments list.

4. Press ALT + F, followed by M to save attachments.

5. Follow the prompts to save. Then press the OK dialog.

This should save all attachments in the message.

JAWS 17 not reading Word 2016 DOTX File

I tried to create a word template with Word 2016 and saved that as a dotx document. Now JAWS does not read any of the content, it just says blank. What am I supposed to do to get the dotx file to be read properly? All I can do is convert the dotx back to a docx.

Did you try Shift+Tab, then Right Arrow?

I tried Alt Down Arrow while sitting on an attachment, and
it did nothing.
