Howard, I'm very surprised you have never heard of iTunes.
It's the interface program between Apple iPods iPads and iPhones and your computer. You can read about it at www.apple.com.
If you want to play with it, you'll want a copy of Blindtunes, the excellent and free Jaws scripts for iTunes. Go to
www.blindtunes.net

Focus on the JAWS window and hit alt to open the menu. V for voices and v
again for voice adjustments. You can then tab through the dialog box and
make your changes.

increase the speed on the fly, but I can't seem to get to stay there.

Pull up the Jaws menu with insert+J or by clickin on the icon on the desk
top etc. Options, then voices submenu and then either
Voice adjustment... or select voice profile... if you have any created. Tab
down and you'll see the slider for the speech rate.

Hi,

I use iTunes with BlindTunes it's a script that allows you to move around
easier while using iTunes. Below are the links for iTunes which is free it's
a Apple program for the Windows OS. I use it with Windows 7 and JAWS 12.
Below it is the link to BlindTunes so you can look it over, it's also free.
It's just a script that JAWS run's.

iTunes when you get to the web page do a search for down as in download and
you will go right to the download link for iTunes 10.5.

Re: [Bulk] [Bulk] [Bulk] Jaws 13 & Virtual Ribbons

Dave...

Wanda,

Interesting. But I'm not inclined to dive into it again, because the
first-letter navigation will be based on the virtual menus and still will
not allow the original first-letter keystrokes to work. I like to be able to
use anyone's computer with the ribbon and JAWS and not have to use an add-on
to make it work. I suspect that as MS refines the ribbon, the FS Virtual
Ribbon will need to be tweaked to keep up, and that begins to smell like
ResearchIt.

You can use first letter navigation in the virtual ribbons. I do it all the
time. I use them because I use several options that are buried deep down in
the ribbon, and I couldn't get the keystrokes to work for them. You have to
press enter on the item once you find it, but first letter navigation does
work. They even said it would in the information on it in the what's new
for JAWS 12 file. Hth.

Agree. I tried virtual for a while, but I'm a keystroke kind of guy and
having to slog through menus to open a dialog is not for me. If FS could
have made the menus first-letter navigation, then of course they would have
had the obvious perfect solution, but I guess it's technically beyond their

Joe,

Give this a try.

Insert+J to open the JAWS dialog.
Alt+h (or possibly just the letter h) to open the JAWS help menu.
Arrow down to "web resources".
right arrow.
Arrow to "Surfing the Internet".
Press Enter.

This launches the "Surf's Up" web training tool that will help you learn how
to use JAWS with the Internet.

Have fun!

for my first question when I am, on a page on the net how do I get jaws to
read it all I want to do is use my cursor keys to move around the screen and
read.
I have tried the 3 cursors the jaws cursor invisible cursor and the
virtual cursor but well it seems a bit hit and miss what it will read.
I am using jaws 12 and windows 7.
I did try and look at the jaws web sight but well as I cant work out how to

Re: help with internet

Joni Colver <earlybird@...>

Hi Joe,

Turning on keyboard help will allow you to explore the keyboard and find
commands to do various things. Press the insert key on the num pad, also
known as the JAWS key, and 1 on the numbers row to turn it on. You can then
press any key or key combination and JAWS will tell you what it does without
activating the command. This is a toggle so turn it off the same way you
turned it on with JAWS key plus the number 1 to return to normal keyboard
function.

You should not have to switch cursors a lot on the Internet, at least in my
experience. You can read the entire page with JAWS key and down arrow on
the num pad. Stop speech at any time with the control key. You can go to
the top of the page by pressing control plus home on the num pad and the
bottom of the page by pressing control plus end on the num pad. This is
with the desktop keyboard layout.

When you have keyboard help turned on you can also press different letter
keys and find out what they do. Do this while you are in Internet Explorer
since there can be different commands depending on which program you are
using.

There are also keystrokes to show the form fields, headings or links on a
page. These are JAWS key plus F5, JAWS key plus F6, and JAWS key plus F7,
respectively. You can then arrow down through those various elements. You
can activate a link in the links list by entering on that link. You can
exit the list of elements by pressing escape. You can explore these
keystroke combinations with the keyboard help I mentioned above also.

If you hold down JAWS key on the num pad and then hit F1 twice quickly while
you are in Internet Explorer, you will find lots of help topics. Press F6
to move to the links about using Internet Explorer. One topic that might be
helpful to you early on is Internet Explorer Getting Started. Press enter
on that link to read about navigating web pages.

I know there is a lot to explore and learn when you are new to JAWS. It is
a powerful program, but also quite complex and can be daunting to a new
user. Good luck and I hope things begin to make sense and get easier for
you soon.

RJ, I hear that Dragon does work with jaws. You might want to download a program that allows them both to work together called J Say. This mutes jaws while you're talking to allow Dragon to properly interpret your words. Good luck!

Hi, I'm RJ, and I have some questions. First, I was looking into purchasing dragon naturally speaking 11.5, and I'm running jaws version 7.0 on a windows XP operating system. Will this configuration work? I purchased dragon naturally speaking once before, but could not get it to work with jaws 3.0. This was several years ago. I have a friend who is a techonlogy specialist with a rehabilitation agency, and he's told me he was unable to get and dragon and jaws to work RJtogether.

Text Analyzer: listing text inconsistencies

Hamid Hamraz

Dear all,

Is it a way to invoke the text analyzer like for example a spell checker? I mean to list all the inconsistencies within the whole text, rather than describing them while reading it.

Cheers,

Hamid

Re: [Bulk] Dragon and Jaws

Dave...

JAWS 7? You're way behind. Most of us on this list have not used JAWS 7 for
years. And I doubt that later versions of Dragon will work with old versions
of JAWS. Consider updating to the newer version of JAWS before you launch
into the world of current mainstream software. IT avoids frustration, in my
opinion.
