Re: financing for jaws
James Malone
FYI, if your running Jaws Pro, depending on if you purchased a SMA you will pay $220 for the next two upgrades. Add the cost of Jaws on top of that SMA. For Jaws home users, the SMA is $120.00 and you will have to add the cost of Jaws on top if you don't have a copy. I was told you can have three activations to run on three machines...Has this changed?

Hi:
With croud funding the website usually takes a
percentage (usually fairly small). I used Go Fund Me to raise the money
needed to purchase a BrailleNote Touch; I was able to raise what I needed in
four weeks! You do have to put your amount slightly above what you
actually need to account for the percentage the site takes. However, if
you receive donations in hand you keep it all, even if you report it on your
campaign. Hope this helps!
Jessica
Hi

donating to & for people that truly need help, but this Crowd Funding thing
you speak of is something I've never heard of, & that doesn't mean it
doesn't exist, but it only means I've never heard anything about it! Who
runs it? Who manages the donations? Does 100% of the donations go to
the intended, or do they take a percentage off the top to cover costs, & is
that info divulged? I've only asked a few questions, but you see my
point. I personally am sick of donating to organizations that say
that they will do this & that, but when it all comes down to it most of the
money is eaten up by bullshit!

Subject: Crowd Funding CrowdFunding is widely used throughout many segments of society including those who are employed. It is not a form of begging and is not promoted as such. Rather it could be used as a way to raise public awareness of the existence of assistive technology and what users of this technology must do to cover the cost of keeping it up. If folks can use crowd funding to raise money for needed surgery and treatments, funding to achieve educational and vocational goals and for many other purposes why not tap into this means of creating revenue to cover the cost of buying and maintaining assistive technology. Large corporations also use crowd funding to start and grow their existing business ventures or to start new ones. No one calls them beggars. I used to hear this kind of garbage when I was a street performer. Those making such statements about this occupation are either dead, still broke and living on public assistance, or had to move back in with mmom and dad. Mary and I tapped into various means to raise funding for the things we need without going to voke rehab or some other public assistance program and are closer to achieving financial independence. Re: Crowd Funding
Sieghard Weitzel <sieghard@...>
If you haven't heard about crowdfunding you must not listen to the news, there is always somebody who does it to cover, as Peter said, expenses for a medical procedure, a funeral because maybe the primary earner of a family with kids died or got killed etc. Unfortunately you also often hear about people who think society is responsible to fund their education or their travels around the world and occasionally you hear of people who use natural disasters and the good will of others to raise money for themselves by pretending they have lost everything during a hurricane, wild fire etc.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
Then of course there are sites like Kickstarter or Indiegogo which are exclusively dedicated for raising funds for a service or product. One of the most popular for personal crowdfunding is probably GoFundMe.com and yes, these sites to of course charge some percentage or fee for use of their site/platform. Maybe I was raised differently, but I couldn't do this at all, either I can afford to buy something or I can't, if I want it bad enough I work hard and save so I can afford it. Anyhow, I think Peter made his point and some of us responded and made theirs and we should probably conclude this thread since it has precious little to do with the Jaws list except that Peter is trying to raise money for his and his wife's hardware and software purchases. I hope you remember to declare your future crowdfunding income with the IRS since it may be considered income and therefore is subject to income tax. Regards, Sieghard

No, you can’t. But you can save them to your local drive. Then copy the files to the thumb drive into whichever class and folder you decide they belong. This is why you’re getting the error. Re: Uninstaling JAWS17
Sieghard Weitzel <sieghard@...>
Are you using Windows 7 or Windows 10? Keep in mind that many keyboards don’t have an application key and if that is the case Shift+F10 will do the same as the application key. Also, in Windows 10 the application key doesn’t do anything, just press enter and tab once to Uninstall. Lastly, just uninstalling Jaws 17 will not fully uninstall it, the Jaws 17 Talking Installer will remain on the system. You might want to consider uninstalling all Freedom Scientific entries in Programs and Features, but make sure to leave shared components and, if you want to merge settings, leave your user settings. I usually start by uninstalling FS Reader, then the various Omnipage OCR applications and lastly the Talking Installer and the Video Intersept which I believe is no longer used by Jaws 2018. At some point there may be no more speech, use Narrator to finish uninstalling all Freedom Scientific items. When done run the Jaws 2018 installer, all it takes when it starts running is to press the spacebar to check the “I Agree” and then enter to start the installation, everything from there is automated, no more pressing Next a few times and all that. At the very end it tells you that it’s done, you press enter, then it tells you you need to reboot and you press enter one more time, let it reboot and that’s it. It’s a very nice and simple installer now.

thanks for the info, I hadn't realized exactly what you were wanting to do. I don't know a good way of doing the same using Jaws. However, when I was looking around I came across the two powershell commands start-transcript and stop-transcript, which may be of use. They produce a text file of the commands and output between the times when you executed start-transcript, and then stop-transcript. If you type in start-transcript without any other parameters, it writes to a text file in the documents folder of the account which you are currently using. There are some optional parameters, including the path of the file. David.

Re: What is the trick with multiple attachments in outlook 2010?
Bill White <billwhite92701@...>
Have you tried saving the attachments to a directory closer to the root directory on the local drive? It sounds like the pathname is too long, and the files won’t save in the specified directory.

I am good till your last step; For when I do the following, 5. Follow the prompts to save. Then press the OK dialog. This should save all attachments in the message.
This doesn’t work, for when I do this last step, I get an error saying something like “file or directory name not valid” and it doesn’t let me save them all, Am ok if I do only one but the minute I try to do them all, I get the error.

Hi, Shannon. I use Windows 10 with JAWS 2018. I am having no trouble reading multiple attachments with Outlook 2010. I do the following.
1. Open Outlook2010. 2. Shift TAB to the attachments list. 3. Use Right and Left Arrows to advance or go backward through the attachments list. 4. Press ALT + F, followed by M to save attachments. 5. Follow the prompts to save. Then press the OK dialog. This should save all attachments in the message.

Re: financing for jaws, Why Not CrowdFunding?

Hi Kelly,

I know we disagree at times about things, but I couldn't have said it better although I wasn't going to say it. A lot of the crowdfunding campagnes people do are in my opinion are no different from glorified online begging except that an actual begger has to work harder for what they get. I would probably qualify your statement to get a job or start a business by saying that for some people due to their disability and maybe multiple disability this may not be possible, but in that case NVDA which is free unless you choose to donate to them is probably more than adequate to do what they want to do. Also, even people who are on some sort of assistance program usually find money for some luxuries and by foregoing those for a time they could probably raise the money over a 2 or 3 year period to buy Jaws and once you have Jaws I really hate it when people bitch about the SMA which for the home version is $120 every two years. This works out to $5 a month so just buy 1 or 2 less coffees or whatever most of us spend money on if you feel you really need Jaws. Just yesterday somebody from Nigeria posted a message with a Jaws question and he said he is running the demo version because he can't afford to buy it. This I can of course believe because many people here even if they live on a very small amount of money still have a lot more than a large portion of the population in many countries in the world. Here is somebody who makes due with having to reboot his computer every 40 minutes. Even if Jaws did a better job with some task, then you could just run NVDA for most of what you do and use Jaws in demo mode if you do whatever it is that works better with Jaws, you can actually do quite a bit in 40 minutes. Regards, Sieghard
