Hi,

I have just installed Kindle for PC. I have figured out how to get a book

sure if it's pausing between lines or sentences. I have speeded up the
speech rate but it is still irritatingly choppy. Any suggestions?

No the current windows phone doesn't support any screen reader of any
type it's written in a way to make it impossible to make a screen
reader for it and jaws is a pc application not a mobile application.

Joomla with JAWS 13 (was CPanel with JAWS 13)

Wow! I was Really, really tired when I wrote that post. The problem is Joomla with JAWS 13, not CPanel with JAWS 13. I can't get the submenus under Site, Menus, Content, Components, Extensions, Tools, ect. to appear, unless I go back to my previous JAWS 10 (Even then, I had to use the JAWS cursor.). Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello,

CPanel is very accessible with later versions of JAWS, assuming you're using
the default CPanel theme (I believe it's called x3). With that theme, no
use of the JAWS cursor is required at all and it behaves like any other
normal webpage. If you're not using that theme, you should be able to switch
to it from within your CPanel interface. If you can't, talk to your web host
about enabling that theme for accessibility reasons. If they won't do so,
consider looking for a new host.

Are any webmasters having problems switching between the menus in CPanel
with JAWS 13? I have been using JAWS 10, and, although I must use the mouse
the mouse commands to go between the site, menu, content, component,
extensions, tools, etc., CPanel has been accessible. However, JAWS 13 will
not, for one, stay in JAWS cursor mode, because the screen changes as the
menus pop up, and the menus then disappear, because I didn't click on one,
since JAWS switched back to PC cursor. Even if I can get to where I want to
click, I don't usually get the intended result. Anyone else using CPanel
with JAWS 13 with any ideas?

It is good to get to read a few posts about ribbons.
I have tried it with them and without them, and both ways have their up
sides and down sides, for me anyway.
Figuring out when to go down arrow or up arrow or to use the tab has been a
rather confusing thing. I have managed to learn how to get to a number of
my most used commands, but too often still a need to do something comes up,
where I know the old keyboard shortcut, but have no clue where to find it in
the ribbon array.

The Jaws training files do help, however. I have benefited from taking the
time to just sit and go through them Although my nature is not to be quite
so patient. I seem to use trial and error when using the ribbons.

I am only using ribbons currently with Windows Live Mail.

I installed the XP version of Wordpad and just gave it a new icon name on my
desktop.
This might be lazy. But it works for me. And it seems to work fine.

I installed my old Office 2003 suite, and it works okay, though there do
seem to be a few bugs or what not using it.
I am going to get the 2010 version soon. I will be checking this list to see
if you other JAWS 13 users have more comments and tips to share.

Yes, I want to use the standard ribbons, mostly because I've got the
keystrokes down for certain functions. For example, I often use the alt+h,
x, n keystrokes to save attachments within Outlook. When one uses the
virtual ribbon, those keystrokes no longer work. And I cannot seem to find
a way to make them work in the standard ribbon using Jaws 13, either.

Since we've talked last, I've been trying to use the virtual ribbons. They
do work nicely if a user is willing to give up the keystrokes.

Your suggestion to run a repair made a huge difference. Before the repair,
the behavior of the ribbons was the same regardless whether I had the
virtual ribbon turned on or off. Now I get the virtual ribbon, and it works
differently than how the standard ribbon functions with Jaws 13, just like
it is supposed to do. I still cannot use those time-saving keystrokes with
the Jaws 13 standard ribbon, though. I sure would like to be able to use
the keystrokes instead of hunting around in the ribbon, even the less
cluttered Jaws virtual ribbon.

Hi, if you tabl around the main messenger screen there is a compact button which willl switch it to compact view. It just means there is slightly less stuff to tab through if needed. I would also go in to the options and turn off tabbed conversations. The best tip I can give for navigation it to remember that the search bar for searching contacts is att the top of the contacts list, so each time you want to get back to the contacts list press CTRL E and then just down arrow. JAWS doesn't seem to read the search results if you do a search until you alt tab away and back again then you'll be on the results. Hope that helps.

Rik,

Are you aware that if you remember the key sequence for some of the Alt
letter commands, that most will continue to work with the ribbon? I use them
all the time, and it really speeds up my work.

For example in Word I often use the text to table creator. To get to the
dialog, I press and release: Alt a v x
Brings up the dialog like in the old days.

Re: how to send a message to JAWS (PostMessage)

Marco Steinebach <marco.steinebach@...>

Hi Dave,
What are you trying to do? I do not understand your need for header
documentation.
I wrote a media player and playlist generator called MaPlEr. If you
start the program, JAWS tells a lot of things while the music is
starting, so I want JAWS to stop talking when the program is started.
What I mean is prevent such messages like:
"MaPlEr - list view, selected abba - move on, track 1 of 59".
What I can do is just write a simple script, but if I do so, I have to
write an installer for all Versions of JAWS starting from lets say 6
to 13.
So, I try to find a way, telling the running JAWS to stop speech right
from my program, without a script.
That's what I'm looking for.
And, I hope, this could be done via the fsapi.dll or the jfwapi.dll.
Regards
Marco

Subject: Re: how to send a message to JAWS (PostMessage)

Hello again,
After three hours of searching for any information about both, the
fsapi.dll and/or the jfwapi.dll, I could find definetely nothing.
Can anybody give me a header file, a documentation, or a peace of code
how to use them?
This would be very helpful!
Regards
Marco

Hello,
Thanks. That's what I was looking for!
Marco

Rather than a window message, use the FSApi.dll and the JFWStopSpeech
function. If you look around the FS website you should be able to
find at least a header for the jaws API, possibly an import library
too (though I believe it is recommended that you use run-time dynamic
linking - LoadLibrary/GetProcAddress).

Hello,
My question has todo with programming. Under Windows you can send
messages to an application, e.g. with the PostMessage command.
Can anybody tell me the messagenumber, wich stops the speech output,
as if I had pressed ctrl?
This would be very helpful.
Best Regards
Marco

I'm havinng the same problem but, sorry to say, have found no solution
so far other than moving to the previous Itunes page link and clicking
to get back to where I was.

Hello, I am using Jaws 13 and itunes 10.51. There seems to be a bug in
the itunes store! When I preview a song I hear it but am taken back to
the page with the list of albums and When I press enter to get back to
the one I want nothing happens. The JAWS cursor doesn't seem to work
either!
