Re: Outlook 2016 with Jaws 18 and sending a message

Tom Behler

Yes, I have experienced this problem with Outlook crashing when trying to enter a contact address into the "to field". In fact, I have posted a quiry about this on this list.

The problem just started occurring within the past few days.

An Outlook repair has been suggested, but I have not tried that yet.

Also, am going to see if the problem occurs with NVDA.

If anyone else has experienced this problem and has a fix, please let us know.

I'm not sure if it's a Jaws or a Microsoft problem.

Hi: When in outlook, the messages list, and I hit control there are edit fields where I can type in the name of the recipient. However, when I hit the first letter, outlook closes. Has anyone ever experienced this?
Thanks.

Cathyanne:

I tried re-booting, with no luck.

I have never done an Outlook repair, so can you tell me how to carry that out once I find it in programs and features?

In other words, what do I look for, and where do I find the Outlook repair option?

One other thing I will try is NVDA.  I’ll see if the problem replicates itself with that screen reader.

Thanks for your response.

Hello, everyone.

This morning, I just discovered a major problem with Outlook 2016 when originating an e-mail.

When I start a new e-mail with control N, I can no longer type a contact address into the “to” field.  When I do this, I get kicked out of my new e-mail, and get placed back into my inbox.

Interestingly, I can go to my contacts list, and copy and paste the e-mail address into the to field with no problem.  I can also reply to e-mails with no problem.

Once again, the issue occurs when originating an e-mail and trying to access someone in my contacts list.

I am using Jaws 18, Outlook 2016 with Office 365, and Windows 7 here.

Has anyone recently experienced this issue, and if so, have you found a fix?

I am eligible to upgrade to Jaws 2018, and will do so when I get the chance.

However, in the meantime, I’d like to be able to quickly originate e-mails in the usual way if at all possible.

Hi, David. Highlighting an icon is simply moving to it with the arrow keys so that it is selected. You can unselect an icon by using CONTROL plus SPACE BAR. This key is a toggle. The second time you use it it will say Selected. Then you know the icon is highlighted.

Hi David,

If you have an icon on your desk top for the program you want to have run maximized,  try the following:
1. Highlight the icon and press, alt + enter, for the properties.
2. Tab to, Run, and there should be a combo box with the following options Normal Window, Minimized, & Maximized.
3. Arrow down to, Maximized, and then tab to, Apply, press the spacebar, tab to, Okay, press the enter / spacebar to save your changes & close.

If you don't have the Icon  on the desk top then do the following:

1. Go to, programs, in the start menu or the proper Programs Files folder on the route of the C drive, find the program folder & open it.
2. Highlight the executable for the program, press your applications key, arrow up to, properties and press enter

3. Arrow down to, Send To, & press enter.

4. Arrow to, Desktop Create Shortcut, & press enter.

5. Now you can follow the first 3 steps from the top of this message.

Note: The icon that you created on your desktop from the program executable might be named something like, Program Name - shortcut.  To change the name:

1. Highlight the icon & press your, F2, key.

2. You are now in an edit field so, change the name to what you want to name it & press enter to save the change & close.

Take care.  Mike.  Dodgers, try again next year!

Yes, go to jaws settings center (jaws+6), type "indent" in the search
field and "Say indented characters" is the single result.

With that setting on you will receive announcements when the
indentation changes but not otherwise.

Note I've only used it in programs that act like text editors I have
never had need of it for the web so don't know how well it works with
browsers.

Rick,

Using Firefox, it is clearly possible to get to the download link after selecting a book.  Note that the book download link is above the submit button rather than after it.

However, when you follow that download link you get to the “check out” page where it clearly states:

You must be logged in to checkout.

You have to sign up as a patron in order to download anything.

The How to become a patron file makes that pretty clear.

I hope that helps,

Speaking line indentation in Jaws

I experience a similar problem with Chrome and j18 occasionally, maybe
a couple of times a day. But in my case restarting chrome solves the
issue. Unfortunately I don't know how to fix it. If you have any
chrome add-ons installed I would try uninstalling them to see if that
helps.

By focus I mean that nothing in the website reads. If I arrow nothing
happens. If I do a say all nothing happens. If I hit insert f6 it says no
headings. Insert f7 says no links, etc.

I did get the jaws cursor to read on the page.

If I hit f6 I can access the address line. Hit f6 again and I can get the

What do you mean by focus? I use Chrome with Jaws 2018 and have no issues.

Good morning Listers: Installed J2018 and everything worked great for a day
or so. Then last night J2018 would not focus on any website using Chrome.

I have enough sight to see that the page is there as it usually is, but I
cannot get J2018 to focus. Have tried all key combos I know of to obtain
focus. And, yes, I have restarted the computer.

J18 still works Okay, fortunately.

Any suggestions?

Would that version cost him anything to obtain? If so, how much? What is the
direct link to it so I can forward?

well, he could install the last non tandum build of JAWS, and if the VM
environment doesn't have Internet access, he won't be getting the OCR
functionality. I think this is the way to go unless someone else knows
of an "at least" installation of JAWS; this means no Tandum and no OCR.

Hi, it's Annabelle.
I'm making this app that is designed with the Qt widgets and C++ Programming
Language, and I'm wondering, how would I create what JAWS describes as a
tutor message? Would that be the same as creating a QToolTip? A QLabel? A
QWhatsThis? I'm asking this because I have somebody helping me on the Qt
Forum via Chat, a guy by the username of SGaist, and he says he only has a
virtual machine with Windows 10. Is it possible for me to have a link where
I can direct him to a basic test version of JAWS that only requires a
minimum amount of space, so he can test out the parameter that I want to
create in my app? That is, the tutor message parameter?

By focus I mean that nothing in the website reads. If I arrow nothing happens. If I do a say all nothing happens. If I hit insert f6 it says no headings. Insert f7 says no links, etc.

I did get the jaws cursor to read on the page.

If I hit f6 I can access the address line. Hit f6 again and I can get the favorite buttons. Nothing gets me to the body of the web article.

Hello list:

Downloaded Jaws 2018(via "tandem") today, and now Windows Live Mail isn't
automatically maximized when I open the app(it always used to be).  The
timing of this    may just be a coincidence, but would appreaceate the steps
needed to maximize my WLM program when opened, and what's needed so it's at
"max" every time it's opened from now on.

Much thanks,
