Hey there Tomcat,

Before you do the Jaws repair, go to the Freedom Scientific web site, open the Downloads page and select Jaws. Near the download links for Jaws 2018, you’ll find one for FS OCR. Download that file and run x. If the install is successful, try doing the OCR again. If the installer quits and tells you that the OCR component is already there, then troubleshoot the issue. Run the repair by going to the Run dialog and yyping

“jaws2018 /type repair”

and see what happens. Not sure if I have the command syntax correct. Hope this helps.

Are any of you familiar with Audio Book Ministries, also known as Tape Ministries for the Blind?  They have an online accessible library from which their books can be downloaded, but doing it using JAWS is very hard.  Their address is:

Right now the employee they have who is knowledgeable about screen readers and about JAWS is on medical leave and they don’t know when he will be back again.  So if any of you are familiar with this particular web site and maybe, by chance, might have downloaded a book from it, would you please be so kind as to access it and figure out how it can be done using JAWS?  You don’t have to sign in to do this—at least not for the help I am asking for.  Just go to the web page and find the “Online Library Access,” link and hit the Enter key.  Then if you just find any book, try to figure out how to get to the page where the book can be downloaded.  When you get to the page that has the book description, you’ll see there is no direct link to download the book.  There is a “downloads,” link but it will not take you to the “download,” page for the book you wish to download.  Instead, it takes you to the page where there are various things that can be downloaded, such as the AudioBook Ministries tax summary and various other things not at all related to the book you wish to download.  When you find a book, just tell me how to use JAWS to get to the book’s download page.

Hi Michael!  Citrix and JAWS play very well, if you have it configured correctly.  First of all, you will need to have a remote access license.  This is different than the regular JAWS license, and costs around 200 dollars.  With respect to your issue, in order to make sure that all of the key commands go to the server, you will need to make sure that the virtual desktop is displaying in full screen mode.  You accomplish this by first pulling up the Virtual desktop or the server, and then pressing control, plus Alt, plus Pause on your computer.  Be mindful that many laptop computers do not have a pause button, so you may need to use a regular desktop keyboard for this.  Once you press Control, Plus Alt, plus Pause, a menu will come up with several options.  You’re looking for the full screen option.  Press enter to activate it.  You should only have to do this once.  From then on, the setting will be remembered, or at least it has been for me.  I hope this helps!

A common problem I had in the past was that when I pressed the Windows key to get to the start menu on the server, it brought up the start menu on my PC instead.
