Hello,

I’ve even tried using the “different first page” button under the header/footer design tools but still shows Running Head on all pages. Running Header and Page Number

list of 16 items

1. First, press ALT+N to move to the Insert tab of the ribbon.

2. Press H to activate the Header drop down button, and then E to choose Edit Header. Focus goes to the empty header edit area.

3. Press ALT+JH to move to the Header and Footer Tools Design tab of the ribbon, and then press A to check the Different First Page check box. Focus again

returns to the empty header edit area

4. Press ALT+N to move to the Insert tab of the ribbon again.

5. Next, press H for Header, and press DOWN ARROW to select Blank 3 Columns. Focus moves back to the header edit area at the top of the page. This time,

three different fields for text are inserted with the words [Type text] at the left justified, center, and right justified parts of the header edit area.

The cursor is just to the left of the first field.

6. Press RIGHT ARROW. The first field is now selected. You can verify this by pressing the read current control keystroke, INSERT+TAB.

7. Press RIGHT ARROW to move focus out of the field to the space after it. JAWS says, "out of form field."

8. Next, press RIGHT ARROW to move to the beginning of the second [Type text] field, and then select it by pressing RIGHT ARROW again.

9. Press the DEL key to delete this middle text field. The cursor remains in the center of the header, but the field is now gone. JAWS reports, "out of

form field" again.

10. Press RIGHT ARROW twice more to move to and then select the third [Type text] field.

11. Next, press ALT+JH to move to the Header & Footer Tools Design tab of the ribbon, followed by N U to activate the Page Number button in the Header &

Footer group of the lower ribbon. A submenu opens.

12. Press C to choose Current Position, and another submenu opens with focus on the first item, Plain Number 1.

13. Press ENTER to select Plain Number 1. The menus close, and the [Type text] field is now replaced with the number one.

                14. Press HOME to move to the beginning of the header area. This also selects the left aligned [Type text] field.

15. Type the following, with the actual running header in all caps. The running header must be 50 characters or less. It is OK to shorten it and have a

longer title for the paper in the center of the page. Type: Running head: TITLE OF PAPER. In my example, I have the following: Running head: READING COMPREHENSION

USING SYNTHESIZED SPEECH

16. If necessary, select the entire line of the header and check the font and size to make sure it matches the body text you are using.

list end

NOTE: As you type text in the left text placeholder, the number on the right side may wrap down to the next line. After you have typed your running head,

press the DEL key to remove any extra spaces and bring the number one back on the same line as the rest of the text. You may need to use the JAWS cursor

to do this, since a Say Line with the PC cursor reads both lines of text in the header.

list of 1 items

17. When you are finished, press ESC to get out of edit mode for the header text. Focus returns to the main document area.

list end

While you can't make Facebook the default interface from within Email, you can make a Firefox Bookmark or MSIE Favorite to access the mobile site. With Firefox, you can even add a keyword to make access easier.

Once focused on the mobile Facebook site, there are some shortcut keys that make access easier. Before using these keyboard commands, make sure you have an option configured in the JAWS for Windows Settings Center. You need to insure "Allow web application reserved keystrokes" is toggled on.

Once you have this option enabled in Facebook, you can use keyboard commands. Precede each key with one of the following depending upon the browser you're using:
- In Firefox add ALT-SHIFT-
- In MSIE add ALT

Use these keys:
- Friends List 2
- Notifications 3
- Messages 4
- Menu list 5
- Chat 6
- Settings 7

You can quickly navigate to Notifications and use the links list to review your notifications. You can configure notifications with the "Notifications Settings" button on the Notifications page.

Activate a Notification to review the associated Facebook update. The update opens in its own page. You may want to use the Windows Application Menu to "Open in New Tab" so you can close the tab and return to the Notifications page.

I use "Open in new Tab" liberally on Facebook so I don't lose my place.

Hi: Sorry if I've asked this, but is there any way to make the mobile Facebook open as the default rather than the regular Facebook when you click on an email in your Outlook in box that says something like: "David Smith shared a link," or "Carl Brown commented on your post?" This is exactly the kind of situation where you'd like to have an accessible interface. I have ignored God knows how many Facebook email messages informing me that someone I know has done something. Yes, for the sake of your sanity, you should indeed ignore some of those messages with subjects like: "has changed her status," "Has posted a photo..." But I know that someone may have tried to send me something they feel I should be aware of, would be amused by or interested in. Trying to track that nugget from Sara, John, or Uncle Ernest, one gets swamped by the regular Facebook interface, and, I finally give up on that well-intentioned post from my friend.

Yes, the Mobile Facebook site is much more blind friendly than regular facebook.

The biggest reasons why, is every thing is a link, button, heading, and so on. It is set up just like a very easy to use web site that is very accessible with your screen reader’s short cut keys and so on. There is much less of everything. There are only a few articles in your news feed, and you just press:

More Stories to bring up more. There is much much less on the web page, making it so much easier to navigate and use.

The URL is:

m.facebook.com

Firefox or IE are the two best browsers to use the mobile site in.

I hope that helps.

When you start a post on the front page of the mobile Facebook site, there is a “More” link beneath the edit field.

Activate this “More” link to open the “Create Post” page. This opens a page through which you can take actions on the post. One of the links on the page is “Tag Friends.”

The “Tag Friends” link opens a page with a search field through which you can search for friends to tag and checkboxes for each friend. Toggle the checkboxes for the friends you’d like to tag.

I don't have Chrome browser so don't know if you can change settings like the Firefox settings below.

Use autoscrolling

Use smooth scrolling

Use hardware acceleration when available checked

Not sure if these settings would make a difference but I've heard they can effect browser performance on some computers.
